    Fantastic video, Chris. You did a great job of sharing each recipe, giving the context for its use, and sharing some helpful examples. Thanks for all of your hard work!

    Great point about recipes not being everything. I have 2-3 that I have used for the past 3+ years now and I just view them like choosing which film stock I want to use (as someone who shoots a lot of film as well). Lighting and composition are the responsibility of the photographer. Great video!

    Great video! Thanks man. I really enjoy your vibe and down to earth attitude. Instant sub. And I will certainly try those recipes once my camera is back from repairs (a refurbished x-h2s that had a faulty front dial from the get go. It just arrived at the retailer and they say it'll take 5-7 business days to take a look at it. I can't wait anymore. Get on with it already haha).
    I've tried Reggie's Portra before and it's been my go to in the short time I've been in the Fuji system. I haven't had a chance to experiment a lot yet but that one certainly is sick

    I do love the fuji simulations and I always want to use them. but I find myself always opting for editing the raw when I put them side by side. using the simulations but in Lightroom. For a more crisp and punchy look than the jpegs can give me.

    • @ChrisHagan
      @ChrisHagan  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I've definitely started editing a few more in Lightroom recently. But in good lighting, I think recipes like Portra 800 can really get me 90% of where I want to be.

    At 2:15 you said that the WB is baked into the RAW files. Is this true for only Fuji? Because as far as I know, WB is not a permanent value in RAW files.

    • @ChrisHagan
      @ChrisHagan  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jon0807 Oh good call out! I should've explained it better.
      You're correct. The raw file, when imported into your editing software, is going to have WB set to whatever you shot it at. It can be changed completely as you would any other brand's raw file, but if it's a heavily pushed WB in terms of temperatures or tint, it may be a little more work to get it back to something more normal looking. That's why I suggested keeping an auto WB profile ready if you know you'll edit later.
      So it's not too different from any other camera where you'd alter the JPEG white balance, I just don't use color recipes in my Sony cameras and didn't think of that.
      "Baked" was not the right word there.

    Nostalgic Neg is a lot more like Kodak Portra 400 than anything Classic Chrome based because of magenta being more prominent

    • @ChrisHagan
      @ChrisHagan  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@kiv9431 I've experimented a bit trying to make my own Portra 400 recipe based on what I like from seeing others' film photos (never shot film so idk lol) but I never tried the nostalgic neg sim with it. gonna try it today.

    Any recipes that changes the clarity to anything other than 0 slows the camera down. Any solution to this?

    • @ChrisHagan
      @ChrisHagan  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No solution yet. I use filters to create more of that dreamy, highlight-bloomed look. But maybe you won't mind the Clarity slowing the camera down. It has a HUGE effect on the final image, so try it out and see what you think.

    I'm a Fuji X100 (v6) newbie who has bought a proper camera again after many years. Having dived into the subject a bit, I'm wondering if I'm the only one who doesn't understand why Fuji doesn't generate an easy to use exchange format for the ‘recipes’ that you can drag and drop via the Fuji app to save to C1-C7 without having to programme everything by hand? That would be a USP for Fuji for the USP (film simulations). This is also familiar from other digital worlds. Surely it can't be that difficult to create an exchange format that can then be downloaded from Fuji X Weekly, for example, and immediately transferred to the camera? Or am I seeing this wrong?

    • @ChrisHagan
      @ChrisHagan  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It'd be nice if that were that simple. Entering the settings one by one is all I know. Other systems allow you to save color settings or LUTs to SD cards and load them into the camera that way. The downside of doing it that way is you may not be able to change them on the go. At least if you enter them in camera, you can change settings as you need to. I've adjusted the tone curve or white balance tint when I need to.

    • @shira_yone
      @shira_yone 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think one reason they didn't do that is because each generation of their sensor always gives a slightly different look even when you use the exact same setting. Currently they're selling both the Xtrans 4 and 5 simultaneously and the ability to transfer the settings might highlight this tiny issue if someone were to transfer to a different sensor.
      You can import/export settings through the app between the same camera model however.

    Nice video man!
    You asked us to tell if we knew, so here it is: The dynamic range setting (DR) is for highlight protection. When shooting, DR100 does nothing while DR200 and DR400 underexposes one and two stops respectively and then shadows are lifted one or two stops in-camera when saving the image to the card.
    The dynamic range setting is explained very well by Fujifilm in this video: th-cam.com/video/6Bq3h_k7QaM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_hl1JOZAhoUXQHpY
