      Can you imagine working on a project for a client and then every year that client asks you to make major changes to that project and expects you to do based on what they originally paid you ? Just how long can you go on doing that. Their original plan under Pixologic was done in the 1990s and early 2000s because they wanted to grow their user base. They and blender created the idea that software should not be a service. It used to be you bought seats or licenses and then upgraded each year for half off. The choice was yours and a gamble for them. Now it’s far better, we pay them they make it better and if they don’t we leave and go elsewhere. The fact you have a free version means you have access to your data
      Nomad is a fun tool, buts not zbrush.

    • @Ferrous_Bueller
      @Ferrous_Bueller หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@SouthernGFXthe developers said in an interview that there were too many technical challenges to implement Zmodeler in the 1.0 version, but they are working on the challenges bringing it to the iPad. I’ll post the link to the interview in a follow on comment, it’s a really interesting in depth look at the development philosophy.

    • @Ferrous_Bueller
      @Ferrous_Bueller หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Just in case links aren’t allowed at all, here is what the developer said about all the major missing features: to be there in 1.0 are SpotLight, ZModeler, sculpting layers, and Surface Noise. Those are the four main features that aren't there. There are also some rendering features that didn't make it, like BPR Filters, and obviously, Redshift is not available on the iPad, but the aforementioned four are probably the main ones that people will miss.
      Our plan going forward is to understand what exactly needs to be done to get them implemented on the iPad. For example, with ZModeler, you can't take what we've done on the desktop and put it on the iPad - the tablet is not big enough for the UI. Also, not all iPads have hover states; only M2s and up have that hover state ability, and ZModeler is completely driven by hover state. So there will need to be some changes in ZModeler to put it on the iPad.
      The same goes for Surface Noise, SpotLight, and sculpting layers - their UI needs to be carefully evaluated and reviewed. That's part of the reason why some of these features aren't making it. We want to make sure we take the time to implement these features correctly because they will require some design and under-the-hood changes to work on the iPad, but we are looking to get them working.
      I can tell you one feature that is not going to make it ever is the See-Through Mode - you just can't do that on the iPad. The tablet itself doesn't allow it, so there's no way for us to implement that feature.

    I did not have much time yet to try it only reading the reviews plus tuts already available. I've been using Nomad for a while and tried a bit ZBrush Desktop version. I am very curious about the brushes (is there any VDM) and the alphas comparing to Nomad's same and similar tools. Also, I got upgraded my iPad Pro to the latest version (with M4) this May and I found it very peculiar that my battery drains way faster (with the best possible hardware settings it is 4hrs before it goes down to 5% ) but only while I am using Nomad ..... On my previous iPad Air never had this issue with Nomad. So wondering in general how ZBrush will affect the battery power.

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn หลายเดือนก่อน

      Since ZBrush doesn't have the real-time renderer effects that Nomad does, it shouldn't drain your battery as fast. When using Nomad I always love having the real-time render effects on so I get a more accurate representation of my sculpt and I've noticed that my iPad gets reeeeeal hot and the battery drains fast when doing so.
      ZBrush has most of the brushes from the desktop, including the dynamic brushes.

My question is if I'm primarily sculpting characters and creatures for myself or my business is it worth the subscription? • @roofoofighter
      @roofoofighter หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I can see the live booleans being useful for 3D printable models. It would make adjustments easier. Also Nomad doesn’t yet have an actual rigging system with IK to pose models. It’s labor intensive to set up the hierarchy of objects in Nomad. So Zspheres seem better. Also Zbrush has dynamics for sculpting cloth, which Nomad doesn’t. You’ll have to subscribe to export your models, the free version of ZB for iPad won’t let you export.

      Personally, getting to use all my desktop zbrush brushes on the iPad version is great. The sculpting experience has crossed over well too and is less convoluted that the desktop version. To be honest, there are things it does that are better for pure sculpting over Nomad, but Nomad trumps it on others, such as being able to access the heirarchy quickly and obviously the rendering output. I’d struggle to say which one is my favourite, though hopefully the competition between the two will lead to a better user experience being made on both

    Personally ZBrush for iPad is definitely a game changer, I've heard that they plan on adding an additional 200 brushes at some point (only for the paid subscription users). I will stick predominantly with nomad as I prefer certain standard brushes especially the tube tool as opposed to the ZBrush variants. I also don't like certain choices in ZBrush for iPad like having to hold down the option key to cause an inversion style of the brush i.e. adding / subtracting clay, being able to toggle it off and on with tapping the option button just feels more efficient rather than a hand covering part of the sculpt. Also not a fan of how panning around the canvas isn't as controlled like nomad where you can have it as trackball or turntable, as majority of the time I prefer sculpting with the turntable manuverability and occasionally switching to trackball to get to awkward sculpting angles. Personally I think I'll do 80-90% of the work in nomad and use ZBrush to get those higher levels of details or even clothing. Here's hoping they'll add a posing / rigging function in ZBrush for iPad 😅

    I also wonder if you can export the sculpt to octane render on ipad to do a rendering

    Like you mentioned, it's a subscription and I'm not supporting that in any way shape or form. I'd rather support Nomad, keep that small company going. Even with the free stripped down version of ZB, I'll stick with Nomad, does everything I need to do and then some.

      In my opinion ZBrush is better used on a powerful computer like an i9 with a powerful video card and 64 gigs of RAM FOR rendering the tablet cannot handle this the subscription cost 89.99 annually from Maxon. Moreover the Apple tablet Fully Loaded COST $2,199 total cost $2,288.99. And after all that spending you have to train for 3 years or more to get good. Its just not practical.

    I used zbrush for like 3 years, and still do, but honestly i see no reason why you wouldnt use nomad in the Ipad instead of zbrush, you only have to buy it once, i achieved same levels of models on nomad as i did on zbrush, it is even easier on nomad, at the end you gonna have to export the models to maya or blender anyways

    Problem I’m having with it. The smooth tool doesn’t work. They should have improved the lighting rigging. The material system is still out of date and needs to be replaced by renderman. It’s a much more powerful and efficient way for material and sub surface scattering with lighting. I just found out about it today so I will complain more later. 😄

  • @illustrationmaking
    @illustrationmaking หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Zbrush isn’t like other 3d. Because its heart is 2.5d it only works in 3d when your moving the model, then it drops to the canvas and you only have what you can see, very clever. That’s what you can get insane poly counts on smaller engine machines. Something like that anyway. Question is … does it still work like that? If not, is that going to make it just like every other software? Soooo many of us got out when pix sold out to Max. I’m running on the pre-sub software and quite happy.

    • @-mazzeri
      @-mazzeri หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m also wondering the same thing, where’s the 2.5D? And Pixols? The whole point of the Z in the ZBrush name is the Z-axis. But from what I can see it now seems to be just another 3D modelling app and that’s it.

    • @JewishImpactFilmz
      @JewishImpactFilmz หลายเดือนก่อน

      No zbrush even in drawing 2.5d is still 100% 3D. The 2.5 happens in rendering things which have been dropped to the canvas. It’s 3D but they wrote their own graphical API that makes certain sacrifices to achieve the performance they have.

    Now, I feel like Maxon bought Zbrush to hold my wallet hostage. This reminds me of college, where you're forced to pay for filler classes/updates that you don't use, nor were you interested in. When a company creates a new tool or update that the art community is excited about, people come willingly to pay for those updates. While holding my wallet hostage, there is no incentive for Maxon to release strong and useful updates monthly or yearly!!!!!!!!!!

    Now they have done this, when the old-timer desktop users (like me) approve.... they should completely re-tool the desktop version to be more in line with this (and have a seamless workflow - like Logic Pro X)... I HATE the desktop experience, even when you are used to it, you are used to a real mess.

    The only thing that is tempting me is the dynamics and cloth sculpting tools. If Nomad had that I would be in hog heaven. Otherwise Zbrush doesn’t appear to be worth it for me. The free version is just a crippled demo so it’s no good for anything except to frustrate people into upgrading.

      The demo version is probably good for new people to dip their toe in to see what the fuss is about or if it’s for them. The lack of export, some pretty important brushes and some key features means experienced users won’t have much time for the trial version

      A lot of people using a brush might not use more than what the free version offers. Use it and see if you’re bumping up against the limitations enough to make it worth paying. The main thing is just to remind people that nomad is awesome. The arrival of zbrush shouldn’t make people forget about that powerhouse

    I have used the paid version of Zbrush on Ipad the last couple of days.
    I love it.
    I think it is very affordable
    I wish that the desktop version would also be rewritten to have this modern UI/UX design too.
    And I hope that the Ipad version will eventually have all the desktop features like for example Zmodeller, and reference image capabilities.
