I made this for the kids last night. My 4 year old loved it and asked if she could have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner - it was a big hit, very tasty.
Just made this: used golden breadcrumbs, and couldn't seem to get the sauce to reduce quite enough, but I did end up blending it anyway. Turned out really great, thanks!
My mother uses the ready-made cubes by golden curry in 'hot' since we both like the spice. She thins it with chicken broth, adds cubed potatoes, carrots, thick cut celery and onions, simmers until the potatoes are cooked, and adds a half cup of frozen peas during the last five minutes. Serve over rice with benishoga. I make my curry the same way, but I have my leftovers the next day on toast points rather than rice.
I love how much effort went into using authentically Japanese salad and rice and everything, but then you sling a bay leaf in the sauce 😂. My girlfriend loves katsu curry so I'm gonna make this for her tonight. Thanks for the recipe
This looks really good. Japanese Curry such a great inexpensive and tasty meal in the cold months with rice. Good for the adventurous eater on a student budget. Making Katsu is a bit hard to make but it certainly looks worth the effort.
Man, sometimes I wish I had the nerves to mix all of these thousands of ingredients together and more importantly wash that mountain of dishes afterwards..
for the second part a dish-wasching-machine could help? for the first part i agree^^ cooking just for yourself is waay to expansive and time consuming but from time to time it´s fun
However chicken Katsu is worth the dishes and the ingredients - and even if you don't want to use all those different ingredients you could use a stock cube or instant curry sauce type thing :)
Well regarding the question why I don't just get a dish washer: I live in this tiny one room apartment where the kitchen is just a one or two meters wide section of my room. In it there is a fridge and a tiny door for the trash that's underneath the sink and that's it. There's just no way I could put a dish washer somewhere in here. Going to my parents' house feels like Christmas to me every time I enter their kitchen :P So even if I decided to cook something more complicated, it would mean having to wash dishes for an hour and that's just not worth it for me. So I'm unfortunately stuck with either cooking something more simple or going out for dinner with some friends.
i am not sure if this is consider lifehack but when i want to breadcrumb my meat i will just use tin foil instead of plates so that when i used it i can throw it straight without washing. Hope that helps =D
I just made this tonight, super dooper yummy. I used rice bran oil to cook the chicken and Keen's curry powder for the sauce. The sauce turned out beautiful but next time I might try and get my hands on some authentic Japanese curry powder. Husband was very impressed and he's usually not a curry person. As we are in Australia, this dish is basically a chicken schnitzel plus rice and curry gravy! Still, I'm not complaining 😉 also, as one viewer suggested next time I will pour sauce over rice so chicken remains crispy and I might try and add some apple for a bit more sweetness.
I am excited I found this because I've been wanting to try it. So I went out and got the ingredients. Couldn't find the garam masala but figure all spice should do the trick. Trying this for dinner tonight :)
To Japanese like me the combination of sushi-rice japanese pickles and curry sauce looks kind of weird to be honest, but so delicious as well. I'm gonna try to cook it. Thanks for uploading this video!
In the era of UK-Japan Alliance, Royal Navy told us about the curry. Now チキンカツカレー chicken cutlet curry recipe from UK, i watch it in Japan. Interesting.
What is it with the people in these comments? Not the most japanese dish but who cares. She has made this amazing dish and few people have said great. All you have done is moan about it. Have some respect. Love you Gizzi. Thanks for this great dish
Hi I'm Japanese. It seems like you've been to Japan because the recipe looks authentic! Thanks for the great work! I really appreciate the existence of influential people spreading my home recipe to the world. Besides, I find it much more wonderful for people outside of Japan to make wonderful arrangements to our original recipe, and for Japanese people to re-import the recipe later! And most importantly that's how people developed cuisine worldwide. Last but not least, she looks really lovely...
Come on people there is nothing "authentic" about "Japanese curry" in the first place! There is no should or shouldn't if it's yummy! Her katsu curry looks yummy!
Tried out this recipe recently and it was perfect!! It's now my favourite kind of curry and I'm constantly craving it. Planning a grocery run so I can make it again soon
I've only ever seen 1 japanese person actually cook curry using spices. Usually they just make it with pre made roux in the boxes like golden curry and other brands. Also never seen it sieved. This is interesting. Maybe this is how they make it in the uk but at homes in japan it's all the boxed stuff and they eat the veg coz that's the point of the curry.
Well done Gizzi, unusual name!!! Nice to see a chef who is more themselves and not trying to give it attitude. A good recipe from a well balanced woman!!! ;)
Fun fact: Japan was introduced to curry by way of Great Britain. A popular dish, kare, is a simple curry stew with potatoes, carrots, and onions on a bed of rice (you can make it nanban kare by adding beef). Sometimes a raw egg is served on top and mixed in with the curry just prior to eating.
I wonder how this would taste with Jamie's cauliflower rice. I love sticky white rice so I'm not sure I would try it, but to keep the carb's down it is worth a try.
Hey, I'm Japanese. Why do you pure your curry :/ that's never happen in Japan... also we don't mix Japanese pickles with green leaves and Olive oil.... :( If you want to put some fresh vegetables as a side, put some shredded cabbage especially with Katsu.
Instead of using plain flour, use corn starch or potato starch. Gets even more crunchy. For Asians, use chicken thigh cuz apparently Caucasians generally prefer more dry foods as they secrete more saliva for their food.. or something like that. Its just more juicy. So even if you're not Asian but prefer more juicy chicken anyways, use chicken thighs.

I’ve made these many times already. It’s so tasty and easy to make. My friends all loved it, too!
And that is one of my very favorite japanese dish ! Good share Gizzi :)
Alex the frenchman himself, I found you. You can’t hide from us, Alex.
How could anyone not love Gizzi? She`s so cute and likeable.
***** You cruel inhuman being.
+lionxx I know right, I'd put a son in her for sure.
personally, i would pour the curry on the rice, then the katsu on that, just so you dont lose the crispyness of the chicken
Which is not how Katsu curry is served anywhere
Fabian Timmins ok Fabian
hmm good tip! if i'd do it that way i'd salt/peper the chicken breast then, or add more seasoning in the flower
Just made this: used golden breadcrumbs, and couldn't seem to get the sauce to reduce quite enough, but I did end up blending it anyway. Turned out really great, thanks!
Awesome Gizzi! Everyone in Food Tube needs to up their game! Gizzi is in town!!
インディカ米じゃなくジャポニカ米が使われてる安心感
Sushi rice is genuine for any Japanese food. Great job:)
I love the way she talks. her accent her grammar.and her cooking is awesome

I always blend mine even though recipe is heres and it turns out perfect. Not to thick and pourable. Do not like the idea of throwing away veg.
That sauce is amazing. Thanks for the recipe.
I like her style - very easy to follow. I hope to see more great recipes from her!
i just made it ..... god how good it is , i just used honey instead of sugar , perfect mixture of salt and sweetness , rich flavor, just PERFECT !
Wow this looks too yummy, and now I'm hungry. I'm SO cooking this tomorrow!!
Food Tube is quickly becoming my favorite channel! Making this soon!
I make your Katsu Curry about once a fortnight, did I tell you. Love you xxx
My curry came out great the first try. It took me 3 tries to get the chicken right, but when I did, boy was it great. Thanks for the great recipe!
Love this Gizzi! Really nice katsu action! Have never made it before but now I know how- no excuse! :)

Man, sometimes I wish I had the nerves to mix all of these thousands of ingredients together and more importantly wash that mountain of dishes afterwards..

Washing as you go takes a lot of the cleaning pressure off. Like, an alarming amount.
However chicken Katsu is worth the dishes and the ingredients - and even if you don't want to use all those different ingredients you could use a stock cube or instant curry sauce type thing :)

Looks amazing! Ignore all the "ohhh it's so inauthentic" nonsense in the comments, it looks delicious! Nice one Gizzi!
Holy crap! I just made this for dinner and it's the best curry I've ever made, said my kids. Both of them!
Excellent recipe.. very vvery simple!
super duper simple and quick to make. Made a twist by adding minced beef in
I just made this and it was delicious. It really comes together once you add the sugar and the soy sauce.

As a Brit in Korea (been to Japan), you represented that dish really well..
She's 37?!? Holy shit. I thought she was 26 maximum.
I am excited I found this because I've been wanting to try it. So I went out and got the ingredients. Couldn't find the garam masala but figure all spice should do the trick. Trying this for dinner tonight :)
I've been looking for an easy katsu recipe!! Definitely going to try!!! Thanks!

To Japanese like me the combination of sushi-rice japanese pickles and curry sauce looks kind of weird to be honest, but so delicious as well.
I'm gonna try to cook it. Thanks for uploading this video!
lovely. imaginative meal too.
thanks for cooking Gizzi! my familly in Japan often puts a little bit of honey and apple while you are making a curry paste to enrich the flavour!
The dish seriously reminds me of a movie "Kamome Diner". It's one of my favorite and the recipe looks fantastic!!!!
In the era of UK-Japan Alliance, Royal Navy told us about the curry. Now チキンカツカレー chicken cutlet curry recipe from UK, i watch it in Japan.
Interesting.

Beautiful, talented, and loves Japanese cooking! Can't beat it. :)
gawd why do i watch these right before bed

You can use the onions and carrots in the sauce to serve ut it would be more tasty
I love the way she pronounces "mild"
I dunno why, but I love the way she says "pan". Cute accent lol

Looks amazing!

I really want to try it out but I can't promise it'll look nearly as good, haha!
