Thanks for watching and great question. To be honest, I don't know. We don't have many radio stations where we are so I'm always using my phone. I'm guessing it isn't an issue because I haven't heard of it being a problem and pur starlink works through the roof material.
The cigarette plug should work as long as it is regulated to at least 10 volts. If its not regulated, it wont sense enough power going out of the plug, and turn off after a few minutes. The connector you mentioned for the fan is an Anderson Power Pole. Make sure you get the right size.
Thanks for sharing! We got it dialed in with our Bluetti and everything seems to be working good so far. We have another fun trip coming up to continue testing our setup.
Thanks for the full walk through. Regarding the shell weight and off-roading, throw some bags on the truck and maybe a add a leaf and call it good. I have a double cab short bed TRD Tacoma with bags and a small lift. Going off road has never been an issue. Last year we did a Baja trip and I carried my Honda motorcycle with the rakattach 2.0 (thanks Greg for the info), kayaks, and a full bed of gear. We did some light-med off-roading with no issues. We did drag the hitch a couple times going to Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs due to departure angles but it was soft sand so all good.
Thanks for the suggestion! We're going to see how it handles stock before we make any changes. I'm hoping it works as is to save some money. We're glad to hear that you had a Baja trip! We're scheming right now.
Thanks for watching. I'm guessing that you're referring to our Remington storage Bins. If so, we've had them for years and love that they are actually stackable. We used to have up to 8 of them with us at a time when we lived in our van. Here is a link to what I think is the same size/product. www.homedepot.com/p/IRIS-82-Qt-Remington-WEATHERTIGHT-Store-It-All-Storage-Bin-in-Black-4-Pack-296005/303084196?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&pla&mtc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D25S-059_016_GARAGE_ORG-NA-NA-NA-PLALIA-D59S-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NEW-FY23_Shopping_JControl24&cm_mmc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D25S-059_016_GARAGE_ORG-NA-NA-NA-PLALIA-D59S-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NEW-FY23_Shopping_JControl24-71700000108113319-58700008715314725-92700080122954877&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhb60BhClARIsABGGtw_kZ_rtcCUAdRO0MC-_NXa7gQ0y9XzqNwXzYR3tO-F35LmoJOCVxsoaAhjMEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Thanks for watching! There are channels all over the Tune to mount stuff. You can easily add an awning and I believe they are selling an awning mount kit even. We went the frugal route and used a camp tarp that we used to use on our van. We find them to be really sturdy, lighter, and not too expensive if it gets ruined. We'll have a video about it soon.
Great info. Thank you cause im inetrested in this camper, can your bedding stay in place when closing the top?The weight check is important especially on a Tacoma, mine is the long bed, very important cause payload totals are low, suspension builds are not cheap
I think you could leave thin bedding like sheets, but I would leave pillows or a comforter on the bed while it's collapsed. Maybe a down sleeping bag that can be squished would be OK. I agree with you about the suspension, we're hoping we don't need ti make any changes
Thanks for watching! I just measured it on our last trip and believe it was 6ft canvas to canvas. I'm 6'2" and we have the dog so we went with the king bed extension. I'd say it would be comfortable for anyone 5'10" and possible for most folks if you're willing to sleep a little on an angle.
@DrifterJourney Thank you, I'm 5'10" I like the idea of being able to sleep side to side and like the idea in cases when the weather is extreme being able to put a sleeping platform where the window area is and sleeping side to side there with the pop-up in the down position.
Thanks for watching! We don't really do any freeway driving for me to give you an accurate answer. Overall, we've lost about 2-3mpg. Most of our driving is state highway and around town type stuff.
Thanks for the show & tell, you three. Very helpful. Q for you: Is it their normal practice to install a vent fan and not run the wire down to the bed? That seemed underwhelming. Very much like the additional width; at the moment it seems to be their secret sauce in the marketplace. I'll look forward to your next trip report. Congratulations!
Thanks for watching! The vent fan setup is standard. I believe they do it that way to accommodate for different power options that folks will use. They might be able to to something special if requested but you'd definitely need to inquire with them. The width is amazing. There are a few others that are doing it now too.......but I still don't think they're as good at this point. Competition in the space is great news for everyone though since they'll all be trying to step it up a notch.
These are probably designed around the tacoma, which has much shorter bed sides vs the chevy. Would explain the extra gap above the roof. Wonder if there is any practical way to use that gap for storage and fill that space for better aerodynamics..?
I think this is the second time I've watched this. I have an 08 Tacoma DCLB and have been on the fence between the Tune M1 and the Alucab. Both great products. I have a few questions..... 1). What made you decide to go from a van to a truck camper? 2) What had you considered aside from the Tune M1? 3). Have you figured out what accessories to mount to the M1? So I went to the Moore Expo last weekend...... Met Shawn from Tune and decided to buy. ..... I may have more questions and may subscribe depending if you get back to me. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching and make sure to smash that subscribe button! 😉 1. We knew we were going to be switching to part time travel so a truck made more sense. It serves us around the property and allows us to go more difficult places than the van allowed. 2. We looked closely at Oru and OVRLND. We ruled out the wedge tents because we knew we wanted all the space possible. We'll still be taking multi-month trips in the future. 3. We'll probably keep it pretty simple for now. I'll most likely fashion an awning with an easy attachment out of a camping tarp. It will be lightweight and strong. Let us know if you think of anything else.
Thanks for watching! It has not but I can almost guarantee there will be condensation. We lived in a van full time for 5 years and it seems that there is always condensation when camping in cold. That's even with it insulated, heated, and ventilated. We have learned ways to help mitigate it but definitely expect to encounter it based off previous experiences.
Thanks for watching! On our model, it seems to be just barely over 7ft with the fan added. It would be different based off which truck and model you have.
Congrats on the camper. We’ve used an IceCo in our van for a couple yrs now. We have a good lithium system and have always plugged in a 12v socket which works great. They do pull 5-6amps so you’ll want to have a good power source.
Thanks for sharing! We're looking through the power stations and batteries we have around the house right now. I'm looking for the perfect combination of enough power with ease of taking it all out if we need the truck to be a truck for a bit. We'll see what we come up with.
Thanks for watching! It really hasn't been too bad. The worst was when we were doing 50mph down a dusty dirty road for a long time. It should be coming up in an episode very soon. Other than that, not much at all. We didn't find it to be an issue either.
Thanks for watching! I haven't tested yet (living in a camper currently with no gear accessible). From the look of things, I'd say definitely yes as long as you don't go crazy. We're taking a trip mid next month and I'll do some testing if I don't get the itch to winter camp before then.
Thanks for watching! Are you referring to removable screens? If so, I don't believe that is an option at this time. They are sewn into the canvas and have a vinyl cover option in case you want them open in inclement weather.
It only takes a couple times to gain the muscle memory required to not do it all the time. Now that we've been in the truck for almost a month, neither of us has really hit our head on any of the bars or getting in.
Thanks for watching. We weighed it in our install video. It came up at 500 but the truck scales are in increments of 20 so we think something funky happened. Tune estimated that our build would be around 425. I have a feeling it's a little higher than that but less than 500. We hope another Colorado weighs theirs to see what they come up with.
We'll be making a video about that once we get a few tanks through it. As of now, it's looking like 2-3mpg with our driving style which is mostly mountainous highways.
just the rear door really..... unless you were to leave the side ones unlatched......then you would be able to push them open. The rear one is the only lockable one from inside though.
Concerning weight, you could add a leaf spring to up the load capacity and get some rigidity back in the rear. I think kits already exist for this truck. I’m interested in going this route too and starting at +400lbs I know I’m going to blow past Chevy’s rated limit 😅
Thanks for watching! I think we'll keep it under the weight as long as we don't go crazy with our gear. Adding a leaf would be the next step. I don't know a lot about it and haven't looked yet but would that change the flex overall? We want to keep it as capable as stock otherwise I probably would have gone with a lower trim with higher payload.
@@DrifterJourney Makes it stiffer overall so it won't flex like it would stock, but it will ride much more comfortable. I haven't done it myself yet but check the forums and see what people say. If you expect to keep adding weight, it seems like its worth it.
Hi Lupe:) and great walk thru too.
Thanks for watching! Lupe says hello back.
I haven’t heard anyone address this concern: Does the bed overhang interfere with satellite radio reception?

That is a huge gap between the roof of the cab and the bottom of the camper… did you notice any increased noise?
Noise hasn't been an issue. yes, the gap is a little larger than we expected, but it allows for plenty of standing height inside.
Fair trade off. @@DrifterJourney

What is the measurement from the top of the truck bed rail to the top of the camper?
