You know, your "Make questionnable choices" motto, I see it more as "Get out of your comfort zone. Try something. At worst, you'll have learned something, at best, you'll not only have learned something, but you also will have succeed at it."
As for the parts of the paint that went thru, would a touch up paint pen be a cheap way to fix those spots?

I love how he talks about getting his money back because a truly rust free GMT800 like this any where in the rust belt is near if not more than $10,000 at the moment. So $4k in it and sell it for $10k up north, that's a heck of a profit.

I learned a lot from Jared over the past 6 years, he helped me with my Supra and did my 6spd swap. He also Inspired me to jump in and start wrenching myself. Fear of messing things up hold a lot of people back from working on their own rides. keep challenging yourself with things you are not confident doing and you will surely surprise yourself, it’s truly an awesome feeling. Wrench everyday for life and thanks Jared.

The most stunning thing about people like Jared and David is how much money they make is limited only by the hours they will put in-they have and always will have all the work they can do. Same thing followed me through my career in HVAC and plumbing- an honest deal, a fair deal, as few surprises as possible and a touch extra to make the job sweet. I had very few "bad" days at work, many clients would climb into 130 degree attics to bring me iced tea- one of my regular helpers (who became a killer tech in his own time) said he had never experienced being a "hero" before- he thought it was awesome! I just thought it meant we were doing the job! FR

I bought a 81 Glastron ssv167 boat for super cheap, but it needed a lot of interior and motor work. I have never done vinyl or built anything for a boat, but now I have 3 more pieces to cut and cover in vinyl out of the 16 pieces I made myself. I can not help but smile when I walk in my garage and see what I have turned that boat into. As an ex commercial detailer (GM franchise) buy a soft broom, use proper car wash detergent and scrub with broom and suds after pressure washing. You might get a colour matched hood from a junkyard cheaply, or patch the paint - a tiny bare patch will disappear if done well. You can buy little touch up amounts of paint the correct colour, just dab a tiny bit on the damaged spot, can sand with a Dremel first if needed to remove corrosion (just don't make the spot bigger) then sand the blob of paint flat when totally dry. You can also do this with the correct colour nail varnish, build up layers if needed and sand paint flat before buffing. Good job with the buffing dude, it makes quite a difference when done well !

2.5 years ago I bought an actual little old lady's 14 year old car with a legit 32,655 miles on it for $3800. It.. needed... everything! Every rubber piece was gone. Tires were original from the day it came off the lot. It'd never been washed or polished correctly. They did however get an oil change every year, and had the 2 recalls done on it in a timely fashion. There were more acorns inside the various panels and openings then on the trees. After another $2600 invested, and an obscene amount of elbow grease, that car is completely sorted, solid, looking STUNNING (it went from a faded blue grey color to a brilliant deep blue), and good for another 15 years of use at least, before it'll need another major going over. It's the 3rd of that specific vehicle I've owned as well, and I still have #2 with over 183k miles on it.
I'm completely on board with buying something with good bones that just needs some love, and making it stone reliable, for less than what a new or decent used car goes for these days.

Bought it for next to nothing, been sitting outside for about five years, changed almost everything, turbo, suspension, cooling system, rear beam, installed cruise control, you name it. Now looking to sell it. Won't get my money back but I've saved another one and learned heaps in the process. Only big difference is that I've been using it as a daily for over a year, and that is what people normally pays for when it comes to car ownership.
Good to see your detailing tricks, even though you claim to not be very knowledgeable, I still learn. Keep it up man!

Telling everyone he’s not an expert to stop someone copying him incorrectly, wanting to drive it for a month and not have someone stuck on the road because he didn’t do a good job. Just an honest guy. No wonder Freddy likes him so much. I keep thinking back to when Freddy financed his vehicles, paying off the loans for him and he was brought to tears. Listen to him talk about encouraging amateurs to try their luck and repair their own car, and then talking about fulfilment after you try something and succeed…

great video, especially the paint stuff. There are countless videos making paint nearly perfect (and I love those videos) - but there is so much value in making terrible condition paint, like this, look decent.

This is gonna be a real nice ride when you get done with it! Heck, I'd buy it cause I could use a decent full size daily (my hhr is kinda small) but I'm broke as heck like everyone else and also many hundred miles away. Still awesome to see a good solid ride brought back to life!

Little tip for the daytime running light bulbs on the 1999-2006 trucks/SUVs: use LED bulbs in them. The regular incandescent light bulbs the DRLs call for (4114) get really hot and melt the sockets, and sometimes even the housings. LED bulbs run cooler and last longer, so it's a win-win.

Sometimes it's not about profit when you love vehicals like we do. Not saying it's not great when it happens but knowing we saved something that would of ended up trashed will always make our types sleep better at night. I saved my profile picture from the junk yard and I'm loving it.

For sensitive car interiors with fabrics and old plastics I usually use a soft white towel and soak the surface and the towel in some starterfluid, dimethylether and it'll clean plastics, rubbers, door-sides and seats like new with effort and be safe. Does require a lot of ventilation to do it safely though!

Got a few idea's for names for the new shop:
    The Wrenchouse
    Jared's Jarage
    The House That Tavarish Built
    Area 51-B
    WrenchWiki
    Pyrrha's Place
    The Rev Palace
You could also make it a contest and have subscribers submit names. When you pick a name the subscriber gets a swag bag.
