  • This is the gear I took on my three day trip on the adventure hiking trail! This gear kept me warm, comfy, and as dry as possible while dealing with flash flooding and 80mph wind gusts. Gear was right at an 11lb base weight before food and water. The video for the trip will be linked here as well if you want to see the gear in action! Thanks for watching, feel free to leave a comment, like the video, and subscribe!
Watch the trip here: • Very windy and rainy 3...
PS, sorry about the chain saw noise at the beginning! It doesn’t last too long!

It seems like a lot of people had that issue. I can’t be super upset, I’ve had it for a few years though. The frogg togg one works just fine though!

Do you think an active mid-layer is warm enough for camp when really cold outside? I used to always bring my R1 and really don’t use it hiking because it’s to hot but at camp it doesn’t really have the warmth when cold outside by itself. I use my hiking shirt and a windbreaker while hiking and bring a warmer mid layer when cold outside at camp. I love my R1 but I found when really cold outside I had to bring an extra mid-layer anyway. Windbreaker holds the heat in while hiking and dries out really quick. For the 3 ounces I like the windbreaker while hiking compared to the 12.5 for the R1. Never owned a Mele but anything that is a great active layer usually isn’t that warm when at camp and not active and cold. Really enjoy your content.

Thanks! That’s why I always still bring a down puffy jacket as well. I have the fleece as an option for just hanging out, but once it starts to not be enough I throw on the down jacket. Having both allows for more versatility and flexibility for different temperature ranges. Hope that helped lol.

@@Beardedbackpacker sorry with down jacket. I kinda figured that was a given in cold temps.

@@Teddy-fx6fx that exact setup for me is good down to the upper 20’s.

Great video! Could you provide a link to the down jacket you recommended? I found one on the Decathlon website but I'm not sure it's the right one (TH-cam won't let me share the link). Thanks!

The one in finding is the Forclaz MT100

@@mikethepickypicker8011 that should be it. I’ve seen it as that and as the trek 100 lol. As long as it’s the down filled one it’s the same! And I would size up, it’s an athletic fit.

@@Beardedbackpacker thanks! I'll be getting a 3xl for sure. At least they have that size. #thankful

What are the black leggings I see you wearing in the cold months…??

They are just some midweight fleece baselayer pants I got from a sporting goods store for like $20! Don’t need to spend big money on base layers, just make sure they are synthetic and NOT cotton.
