Finally getting time to look at your video on hiking venture. Excellent video--describing each item. Appreciate your pointing out positive and negative aspects. Happy Hiking!!
I am still in the process of upgrading my gear. I have a 40l Gregory pack, big Agnes sleeping pad, Kelty 20 degree down sleeping bag (never cold, even in freezing temps), kelty 1man trail tent, cheapo amazing stove, but it works fantastic and it’s only a bit bigger that a small fuel canister. When we backpack when ita warm enough and I don’t have to bring my under-quilt, then I have a cheapo hammock with a cheapo rain fly but they are both pretty light and work great.
I have several packs, from my old army MOLLE Large ruck all the way to ultralight. My favorite l, most comfortable and only weighs close to 3.5lbs is an external frame Kelty! Man you can’t beat those packs! Dang near indestructible! Great video bro! Pack what you want to pack and enjoy hiking
I have yet to try a UL pack, but I would agree on heavier packs generally being more comfortable. I’d rather carry more weight for comfort. Thank you for watching!
The grayle is a water purifie, sawyer is a filter. Have put many many miles on mystery ranch bridger. Great start. And put your chapstick in your hip belt pocket.
Mystery Ranch is the brains behind the old Dana Design Packs in the nineties. Awesome packs and ones I logged hundreds of miles. It will serve you well.
Yeah, I heard about that. I hope mystery ranch still has some sort of 'independence' apart from yeti and maintains their quality. It would be a shame to see such an amazing brand run into the ground.
I was surprised that in the beginning of this list that you said you couldn't afford an ultralight setup. Everything you bought was as expensive or more than ultralight gear. When it comes down to it, I don't think you need to justify whether or not you use an ultralight or traditional setup. Whatever you want to take with you is what you take with you. That said, I enjoyed the gear list after watching your hiking video and look forward to your future content.
That is true, but the most expensive gear in that video was given to me as a gift. If I do get something I save up and get quality gear that will last a long time instead of replacing cheaper gear over and over. I guess what I mainly meant by Ultralight gear was tents and sleeping bags that cost at least $650, or more for items made out of Dyneema or high fill power sleeping bags. Thanks for the comment and for watching! If you have any video idea's or things you'd like to see, please comment in the post I made on my community tab. I appreciate the support!
Speaking very generally, if you're looking at similar price ranges between ultralight and standard, the standard is going to be more durable and last longer. Nothing wrong with considering this to be part of cost.
Same here! I’ve never worn a bad pair of Hoka shoes. I do use trekking poles, it seems to help with the load. As for the bug netting, do you mean like a head net?
Nice video bro. I had that same head lamp. I used it for years but it stopped charging. Now I have a sofirn and wuben light. Those to brands are very good and affordable. Just in case you run into the same problem. Cool pack they are expensive way out of my price range. I'm a budget backpacker.
Thank you! I will check those out. I want to do a budget video at some point in the future, so if you have any other ideas, please comment in my post in my community tab on ideas. Thanks for watching!
Darn Tough socks are the best and so is their warranty! Our troop goes to Trail Days in Damascus Virginia every year and the people at the Darn Tough booth will literally take the nasty socks of your feet and will replace them!
Finally, someone who isn’t meticulous over every ounce of weight saving and just wants to enjoy the outdoors! Great video.
I agree, comfort and quality takes priority for me! Thanks for the encouraging words!

Thanks!
I would add only 2 pieces of gear a buff and a Shamogh. ..both have multiple uses and both are light weight.
I completely agree! I actually ended up throwing both in my pack after I did this video because I forgot them.
Thanks for watching!

Sometimes certain cheap stuff will surprise you! You don't have to be rich to go backpacking! Thanks for watching!

Thank you for making that distinction! I should have clarified that. Thanks for the tips and for watching!

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Mystery Ranch. Thanks!
Mystery Ranch just got purchased by Yeti. People are waiting to see if the Yeti bosses destroy the Mystery Ranch brand. It could easily go either way.

Love Rocking the speed goats on trail. Do you use trekking poles ? Also do you use any bug netting?
