    Roger, your videos are always enjoyable and educational. Thanks for providing the recipe for the “bird paste.” I have something similar I make that is beloved by the birds here in the eastern U.S. Thought I’d share it with you in case you ever want to try it. I plan to try your bird paste soon!
    I call the following “bark butter.” The downside to this (compared to your recipe) is that it really needs to be handled/spread with a knife or spoon. The benefit of it is the taste and extra protein in the peanut butter. It is a favorite food and major attractor of jays, cardinals, titmouse, chickadees, woodpeckers of all sorts, warblers, tanagers, etc.
    “Bark Butter”
    Ingredients: 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup lard, 2 cups corn meal, 1 cup oats, 1 cup sunflower hearts. Melt the lard in a pan, then stir in remaining ingredients until well mixed. You can also add bits of berries or fruits or other nuts as desired. Allow to solidify overnight at room temperature. Will keep at room temp for a couple of weeks at least. Spread onto feeding spots (branches, tree bark, knot holes, etc) with a knife or spatula.

      Thanks for kind comment about the video. I will give `bark butter` a try.

      Thanks for the kind comment Cliff. I limit the number of shots it will take in Pro Cap High or it fills the card up too quickly. The 120fps does have advantages though. The short clip at 6mins 50sec was 12 frames from the burst , and it enabled me to do a short time lapse effect.

In this video I am using manual focus, so use focus peaking . AS soon as the area I am focusing on hihghlight in red, I know the focus is correct. Hope this helps.

    Would be interesting to see a video about your approach to culling etc in Lightroom as I've been looking at OM Workspace to try and make it quicker. I looked at using OMW to group by sequence, and then afterwards use a feature call "Focus Analyser" to analyse the set of sequential shots and organise them by sharpness. My only gripe is that OM Workspace doesn't work with XMP sidecar files so I can't mark them in OMW and then re-sync meta data in LR to pick up the metadata changes.

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Lightroom I go through the images at 50%, advancing with the keyboard arrows. Any `keepers` I hit the letter P, and any that I am rejects I hit the letter X. I then go to the top and select `delete all rejected pictures`. I then go through all the `P`s` again and only keep the best ones. Its just a case of going through them a second time and changing a few of the `P`s` to `X`s`. If your quite aggressive with the `culling` , it does not take too long. Once done, I go into the recycle bin and delete all the reject so it does not clutter up the computer. Hope this helps.

    Thank you Roger, very helpful as ever. The false background idea has certainly given me food for thought and it is good to see how close you can get it to the perch - it would need a much larger panel if you were to move it further back of course. The lichen perch looks to be about 2 or 3 foot away from the feeder - is that correct?

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alan, Glad you liked the video, The background board is about 48" x 39". (it was an offcut from a sheet of 8 x4 ply )The further back you can take it the more diffused you get it. If I had to have it closer I would need to make the `painting1 more diffused. The branch is only about 18" to 2ft away from the paste.

    Great stuff again Roger. One question for you - with this type of food holder (and the similar one you use with seeds) do you suffer any problems from magpies, or can they not hang on long enough? They are an absolute pest around me and I struggle to set up feeding stations without them commandeering the food and detering other birds. Thanks.

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind comment Martin. Magpies can be a problem. If you made the plywood frame a little bigger they cannot get at the food. Also google 'flutter butter' . These type of feeders may stop magpies because there is not enough space for them to hang on.

    Great video again Roger. Have you tried Pro capture low with the OM1 yet, as I am under the impression that the AF will handle it?

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Dave, it works really well , but you have to have a bird for it to initially lock on to. Because I am trying to get them midway between the branch and the paste, the AF would not have anything to lock on. I could do it by focusing on the bird on the branch, but then I would have to pan with it and it would take the `back in time` advantage of Pro Cap away. Hope this makes sense.

    • @davelock3166
      @davelock3166 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rogerhance5883 Yes that makes perfect sense Roger. No time to react in such a short time. More use if you were tracking at a further subject distance, I suppose. Seems a great improvement all round, but I will stick with my M1X for the foreseeable future though. Thanks again, Dave Lock ARPS
