Years ago when i was a teenager, i was doing community service because i got in trouble..... i was doing some gardening work by the draw bridge in Great Bridge (Chesapeake), and I along with another guy, saw a man dressed in Revolutionary War era clothes. He was standing by the water, just looking at the water. The guy I was with said, “Look at this cornball”, joking about the man’s clothes. I kind of laughed, and then looked back at him and he was gone. In a friggin flash. Just POOF.... gone. The guy I was working with and I looked for him and couldn’t find him. The Battle of Great Bridge took place at that location.

There are 4 different insane asylums in Staunton VA. One is now a retirement home and one is still in use. The other two are just abandoned. It’s creepy.
I've got one that you should look into, and I've experienced this personally. Ok, this is a long story, so bear with me. I got out of the Navy back in the summer of '82. There was a major recession on at the time and by mid-winter things were looking pretty bleak, both economically and career-wise for me. So in desperation, I took the only work I could find, which was as a part-time security guard working Friday and Saturday nights at the Time-Life Building in Alexandria, Va. The building occupies a pretty prominent location at the intersection of Duke and Washington Streets (the later being one of the major north/south arteries that bisects the old town district). Now, as office buildings go, the structure is rather unique in that it is designed with a hollow center, or "atrium" (actually, that was the building's official name, "The Atrium"), not entirely unlike The Pentagon. The one thing I noticed about the place was that I always had the uneasy feeling that I was being watched. The sensation was particularly noticeable, and unsettling, in the Library. Being that the building was corporate headquarters for the Time-Life company, they had a fully-stocked library with every periodical published by Time or Life, dating back to the turn of the 20th century. Being a bibliophile, and an amateur historian, I couldn't think of anything better to do a Friday or Saturday night (if I couldn't be in a bar chasing skirts, that is. I was, after all, a sailor) than reading through their back issues in their library. Despite the surroundings, I could never shake that eerie feeling that someone was standing right over my shoulder watching me. I couldn't stand to sit in that room for more than 5 minutes at a time. One Friday night, as I came on shift, a departing cleaning woman stopped and told me that she heard voices while working in B1, which was the basement storage area, located on the northwest side of the building. So like the attentive security guard that I was, I went down, let myself into the space and listened for about 5 minutes. Nothing. I figured the cleaning woman perhaps heard a radio playing or someone else talking in another part of the building through the ventilation ducks. I thought no more about it and went back to what guards do best: trying to make myself comfortable on a cold, windy winter's night while watching the minute hand slowly drag by (on an aside, because of the building's hollow interior, or so I attributed it, on windy nights the building would groan and you'd get these inexplicable bone-chilling gusts of cold air out of nowhere). So as I went off duty the next morning, I thought I'd better report the incident to my relief. As I stepped into the elevator on my way out of the building I said to the other guard "Oh, hey, one of the cleaning women reported hearing voices last night...." and before I could finish the on-coming guard said "Wait, let me guess, B1, north-west corner, right?". I was taken aback and said yeah, how'd you know. His response was "This used to be the old Alexandria hospital and B1 was the morgue. People hear voices down there all the time". I NEVER patrolled the northwest sector of the basement, or any floor for that matter, afterwards. Ok, no big deal you say, and I get that, but this is where things get interesting. Fast forward to 2005. I'm working the evening shift as an Internet Engineer for Qwest Communications over in Arlington, VA, which is only a few miles from Old Town, Alexandria. Its a quite night and I'm working in a cube-farm office environment, so I could hear the conversation of the engineer sitting a few feet away from me. This other engineer, Henri, was talking to someone about this creepy place he once worked at in Alexandria. He and his mail-room buddies would occasionally try to catch a quick nap in the building's basement storage area, but something would come up and nudge them and shake them awake. It got to the point where no one would go into that space. When Henri got off the phone, I casually asked him what uilding he was referring to and he said..."The Time-Life Building in Old Town". When I asked him to elaborate, specifically, on which area of the building he and his colleagues had their experiences, he replied "basement storage area, B1, northwest corner". That's when I started believing in the paranormal.

What the fuck Central State Hospital in Petersburg Virginia did not I repeat did not close down. I was there in 2004. And my cousin was there until last year
Try living in Glasgow, Va. There's old broken down houses all throughout the woods. If the ghosts don't kill ya, the boredom will... We have a population of 600.
