  • FN 15 TAC 3 Review
    bit.ly/2CHLudt
    From My Vantage point, it always seemed like FN treated their line of AR-15s as an afterthought.
    There's the FN 15 Military Collector M4 and M16, which are excellent mil-spec replicas. Still, it's a little underwhelming if you don't get off having a visual replica of what the military is using.
    Then there's the FN 15 SRP G2, again a good quality AR-15 but doesn't exactly make my heart flutter.
    So when FN was reached out and said they're going to be sending me their latest AR-15, the FN 15 TAC 3, I almost said, Can you send me a SCAR instead?
    However, when I finally got the FN 15 TAC 3, I was like, OH, what do we have here?

    I like how this dude brings a different type of passion to the sport of firearms. Usually everybody is so rigid.. for good reason. But sometimes its cool to just appreciate a firearm for it's aesthetics also.

      Funny I’ve never thought of FN as a quality manufacture. They make the scar and the FN 249 which is sexy but it’s a hunk of junk. Only reason I’ve ever paid attention to FN outside of the Scar was because their cold hammer forged barrels are cheap like $180 to $250 cheap. New pistol line up past few years have been semi ok, definitely good looking but we’re over hyped. When I think of FN I think aero precision grade but have been capable of actually engineering a new weapon here and there. I bought a couple FN CHF barrels and I don’t regret it happy to have them as spare parts but compared to the DD it wasn’t the same in accuracy and I’m not sure about longevity. I’ve pumped over 40k rounds through one of my DD barrels and it still has rifling. My old team all use DD barrels and all of Socom and JSOC for that matter use DD barrels and they just don’t die. I haven’t witnessed many FN rifles going for long periods of time without maintenance. I can’t speak on the longevity of their barrels cause I never paid attention.

    • @stevej9636
      @stevej9636 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@relentlessamerican9373 most AR barrels are made by 3 companies, FN is one of those, DD is a small company that has just started making their own barrels a few years ago, before that they were using FN barrels. all Aero barrels are made by FN call them and ask lol. a barrel is a piece of steel that has been formed and then cut in. cold hammer forging is a good technique but what your actually looking for is how the riffling was cut and what the lining is. 90% of AR barrels should run 200k - 300k rounds before beginning to loose accuracy and fail. most companies that buy the barrels buy them without the riffling and then cut them or button rifle, put a finish on them and their label and call it theirs, but they all originate from 3 main companies. also jsoc and socom do not us DD barrels lmao, they use what the command approves and that goes through manufactures they have contracts with. they may have a contract with DD for their rail for the m4 block 2 or 3, but the M4's are made by FN and then modified by their armorers

    • @relentlessamerican9373
      @relentlessamerican9373 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @M. Denz it’s a great gun… but if you have spent any time behind it you would know it has some major malfunction issues and it’s like an emotional girl friend. Ever heard the term sear bind before? If you have experience behind a 240 bravo please explain to me what sear bind is and then tell me how awesome the 240 bravo and 249 are. There is a difference between the two machine guns.. both suffer from sear binding. I like these weapons, as a civilian now if I could toss away 10k and already owned a Barrett .50 and some other rifles, buying one of these would be something I’d do.. but I’m not blind to the overwhelming issues that plague these squad weapons machine guns. Also when you say accurate…. What exactly do you consider accurate and comparing its accuracy to what? You mean at 100-500 meter you can control burst fire about a 5 foot group? Or are you comparing it to 1 moa guns. It’s accurate in relation to the m60 if that’s what we’re comparing it too or the Russian PKM variant. I’m the world of belt fed machine guns I suppose we could call it accurate. But that’s not really a fair comparison since it’s a light machine gun (chambered in 556) I’m assuming your talking about the 249 and not the 240. You seemed to glue these two guns togthwr in your text. 240 bravo is 7.62 and is considered a heavy machine guns where the 249b is 556 and considered a light machine gun. Also called a saw (squad automatic weapon) where the 240 bravo does not fall under SAW.

    • @relentlessamerican9373
      @relentlessamerican9373 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @M. Denz which is it Dude? 240 or 249? They aren’t the same flipping gun. And no shit it uses a FN barrel. Both guns are manufactured by FN. i don’t think you’ve ever shot a 249 or a 240 and have no experience to back up your claims. I wasn’t a machine gunner but I did get to train on the weapon and utilize them in serval occasions. The 240 is 7.62 and is going to be vehicle mounted most of the time or tripod mounted in hardened battle positions. The 249 is the squad automatic weapon, its has a bipod on it but for the most part it’s fired from the shoulder. One is 7.62 and the other is 556. If you were to group it with single shots your looking at about 3 moa. Not terribly inaccurate but not accurate at the same time. To glorify the weapon for accuracy is glorifying it for the wrong reason. Like I stated in my other comment to you, I’d buy one for my personal arsenal… only if I could get it in full auto though. A semi auto 249 or 240 is absolutely retarded and takes away from any advantages these weapons have. Because if I was looking at putting accurate shots on target I’d use my AR… hmmm it’s almost like this is how squads are put together. The saw puts down semi accurate hate on the enemy well the more accurate riflemen take position to blast the squirters and your other rifle men move forward to flank enemy position. That’s it’s role, if you have just ARs or other rifles like ARs and come across an enemie patrol or hardened position your gonna have a hard time bounding or moving at all. In fact bounding over watch is almost always performed any your saw gunner. And that’s it’s claim to fame. Being moderately accurate, with controllable full auto fire (which is what makes it accurate is the rate Of fire and weight of the gun) and being light enough for a machine gun that soldiers can carry and shoulder fire the weapon… that’s it right there. The fact it can be carried by a single soldier into combat. That’s what makes the 249 a formidable firearm. But jamming, part breakage, extreme part wear, extreme maintance, sear binding issues, reloading issues because whoever designed the feed tray wasn’t thinking about soldiers being shot at hiding behind a rock trying to feed a new belt into that bitch. So many issues plague this firearm. The new squad weapon program I disagree with the weapon they are trying to replace, the new sig spear and sig light and heavy machine guns should be replacing the 240, the 249 and any AR10 rifles. 6.8 shouldn’t be replacing 556. Funny cause the military is keeping the 249 and trying to replace the AR. Which is backwards, the new sig fixes all the issues of the 249 and only weighs 12 pounds. But they are gonna buy new 6.8 barrels for the 240 and 249… makes no flipping sense. I understand if you love the FN saw but don’t ignore it’s glaring flaws or try to say it’s something it simple is not.

    The two issues I have with this rifle are 1) high quality fixed sights - as optics can and do fail and 2) not a great fan of the aluminum fore grips. While great to hang stuff on - in sub 40 F temps it becomes a heat sink. Holding aluminum or steel for long periods in cold climates is not practical.

    Not gonna lie I prefer the older FN TAC II. The rail is shorter which allows you to cut the barrel to a 14.5 flush with the rail. Also I prefer the Magpul furniture. The radian charging handle/safety doesn’t make a difference to me I have a bunch of those laying around

    A FM-15 with a non reciprocating charging handle, the ability to easily side fold the stock, and it’s new DI gas system design is slick, oh and it’s HALF THE PRICE of this gun here. Lol get a SCAR or just go with a cheaper AR, then add your own Radian safety, a good cheap Magpul or whatever polymer grip of choice , decent charging handle, and boom, you got a gun at the same level as this AR. It’s not a “revenge body rifle” it’s an ex that looks basic and thinks they’re worth way more than they really are now than the actually are now that they’re back on the market and you can just go buy that FM-15 or some other decent AR for half the price, and smile knowing you got the better get for half the costs of paying for that ex that just isn’t worth the costs.

    It looks exactly like a DB15 with more expensive components.
    EDIT: I went a dug a DB15 out of my safe just to visually compare with this FN. So a stock DB isn't going to look exactly like this. I had forgotten that I had added a raptor Ambi charger, Strike Industries mod 1 stock (I like the minimalist/smaller butt stocks. No need for a big stock with a 5.56), JP 3.5# trigger springs and a few other lightweight upgrades. That's why it looked eerily similar to this FN15... Almost uncanny.

    • @dilldowschwagginz2674

      Digging through my AR safe also reminded me to do a PSA for my fellow firearm guys... If you're looking to add a sling and don't know much about it - buy a Viking Tactics padded adjustable unit. Don't waste your money on a $20 piece of sh*t that you won't even use because it sucks. Drop the $50 on a VT and you're good to go. I wish I had someone to give me that hint years ago before if spent my way through a dozen or so slings that I always ended up not liking. I have a laundry basket in the closet full of cheap slings

    Personally I think the 1 thing that really holds this rifle back isn’t the trigger as I get individual preferences vs added cost make that really not worth the risk but the barrel profile is the real problem, it’s a government profile and since FN makes their own barrels they could easily do whatever they want whether it be some sort of taper or a strait profile which either way would be superior in both barrel harmonics and handling of the rifle. If they did some sort of medium weight taper profile like a BA Hanson or bcm EMWF minus the fluting I’d be jumping for joy at this rifle but they didn’t 😢.

    • @matthewbeaver5026
      @matthewbeaver5026 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then added more weight with the full length rail!

    • @JW11595E
      @JW11595E 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewbeaver5026 I think the argument of 13 vs 15 rail is something that’s a mix, I assume most consumers prefer the look of the full length rail even tho the 13 whatever is probably just fine if for whatever reason they end up putting a new barrel in it they can pick between a 14.5 or a 16 if desired and it’s also lighter and is less likely to have deflection if they mount a laser, granted it’s a wedge lock rail.
