Dearest Corinna, I'm sending you a huge HUG. My grandmother crocheted my the same bag in black. I carried it everywhere, until, a boy older touch me on bum. WACK !! I hit him with my little black bag. BIGGEST HUG, smiling till my face hurts.
So much I want to say, but I'm not looking to bore anyone here...first of all, your channel has made a difference in the way I think of crochet; specifically, I'm not a fan of retro crochet, because I grew up in the '70's, and I didn't care for the look of it at the time it was considered modern. Vintage crochet, on the other hand, brings the game up to a whole new level for me, and, if you'll excuse the pun, I'm hooked. There must be a 12-step program for this...anyway, second, I currently have a soutache bowl, and I'm amazed at how quickly this worked up. I went from a hexagon to a bowl in a matter of just one round, and I can't stop! There is a pair of women at work who share a birthday (July 11), and I'll be ready. I just have to dedicate next weekend to make two bags. Third, and as always, thank you for doing what you do; your passion for crochet has rekindled my interest in the craft.
I will probably make this one, but larger, with a 10 inch diameter bottom, so it will be more functional as an everyday purse. I will also line it with fabric, adding some inside pockets. I might even take a shot at making one with an oval base, instead of round.
Gosh, I love The Great God Google! "Gr. yds." is grains per yard, a measure of linear density "The unit is used to measure length in yards in order to estimate weight or mass in grains." so, I guess, sort of akin to wraps per inch to classify the grist (density) of yarn...? It's weight, anyway. Since 1 gr. yd is about 70 yards, 3 gr yds would be 210 yards, or about 192 meters. Who knew "grains" was a common standard of measurement in the 40's? Not me! And since "cordette" yarn is a fine 2 weight, using the size 18 nylon thread was a perfect substitution! i love the color you picked, too. I learned new math AND how to make a bag today! YAY!!! 🤣 Hugs
So probably my most favorite item I have crocheted from Corinna’s inspiration. I used cotton yarn. I increased the size of the bottom to 8 inches and after my back loop only round, I continued 4 rows of sc to have a thicker base so smaller things had less chance of falling out of the bag. I made it for a young girl going through chemotherapy. It is hard to part with it except I know she will love it and it will make her day brighter. Her fave color is purple ❤ I wish I could post a picture.
I am so sorry that I laughed when you were talking about working with that nylon thread. I literally have just finished using it for a project for the first time, and you described it perfectly: tough to work with and makes your hand cramp.
That is a very cute bag! I love the look of the nylon yarn/cord, but have never used it. I have seen it used in tutorials for purses. But I guess I won't be using it since it caused you pains in your hands! Thanks for being honest about that! And for another excellent tutorial!😊
Thank you! , honestly, even though it was a pain is the Y-ass to use, the resulting toughness of the material is worth it, I would use it again ( gulps) lol
Only used 1 spool and did about 9 rows (both pattern stitch and scs) of the pattern before binding off and chaining about 80 or so and attached the straps in between the dc pattern stitch. It's so beautiful! Thank you for the pattern!
I couldn't wait to open and comment before even watching the video, 1. because I know you'll be great Corinna, and 2. because as soon as I saw the thumbnail I wanted to make that bag ❤❤❤
This bag is really pretty, the yarn really accentuates the texture of the cross stitch, i know nylon cord is a pain to crochet with but as you said it does give good results. TFS Corinna x
So beautiful, I just made a little bag for my dogs' goodies. I used cotton and it turned out just perfect. Thank you ever so much, I love your channel❤ greetings from Germany
Nylon line is hard to work with. It does rub your hands the wrong way as it's a little stiff, but it does get easier the bigger the project gets (in my experience). Now, I don't buy it at craft stores as it's too expensive that way. They market it as yarn. I go to the hardware store and buy mason line. It comes in more colors and it's a lot cheaper... that's if you ever want to work with it again. Lol. The finished projects are always lovely in this type of line, string, yarn. I made tablet and phone covers many years ago and they last forever. This bag you made will be around for years to come.
Hello Corrina, 😄 I was looking at this bag on Pinterest last night, thought it would be a cute bag to make. Yeah, Nylon is something to work with, lol. We're going rogue!!.. I like it 😉. Fun video, I enjoyed it, thank you for the tutorial.
There are hook conversions available but 5 mm/H was a size 8, G was 6 or 7 and is 4.0 to 4.75 mm (varies), F was 5 maybe 3.5, E was size 4 maybe 3.0 mm. Yep, the nylon cord has even less give than cotton but holds shape well. I have the book this pattern is from, love just looking at the styles but may someday get around to it. Thanks for showing me the whole process for this one.
You could also sew onto the bottom on all four corners 4 half moon shaped buttons. This will help with wear n tear of the bag from the sitting down of it. Just an idea I got in my head??? I'm going to make myself one of these. I really enjoy your channel! 😊❤

I wanted to do a stitch along with you on this video. I actually changed it up a bit, for a first try. I used just a regular 4 weight yarn, only because I have it on hand. I will get some thick thread later, and do the original pattern. This was a fun stitch to do! I done mine in a hot pink for my granddaughter. It turned out to be 8"x 9 finished. Thinking about lining the inside, just because my yarn will stretch a bit.

Gr. yard is grains per yard apparently. An old measure of linear density.
