Yep! I was so confused when she counted the ch3 as a dc, when the patter said ch3 + 20 dc which is 21 in total. I thought "heck, have I been doing it wrong the entire time?"
I tried all of the other methods for learning a magic circle and I hated it. Then I watched you do it and tried your method. I have no problems at all with magic circles anymore! Thank you! 😊
@@SarushaIsMyName the way I learned to do the magic ring is the way Corinna does and then I saw a short video that all a magic circle is, is the slip knot that you start crocheting with, you just don’t cinch it but crochet into it! I’ve never been confused since.
Corrina I love watching you go through these. Don't take my yelling at the screen personally. 😂 It's all done in love. And then she cut the foulest fart in world history. I still love her. 💖 She's eight now! (Might have to make these flowers for my mom. She's got three broken ribs and is mostly stuck in bed. Gotta finish some Halloween bags first, though.)
Those are adorable. Yes, they could be used for applique on all sorts of items, on the arms of a sweater or a tote bag. Oh boy, you have sparked a fire with that one. Thanks.
Oh nice, you're doing 1970s..finally get to watch you do one. Both my husband and I were born in early 70s. Love the pattern will try it out. No worries we all goof up. You did a good job hun!
st. male 60 yr old, been crocheting for about 4 months now and have gotten pretty adapt at it. I love what you do! I'm also a computer technician and being an old guy, I remember programming in BASIC... where it would be a lot of "line 10: print "hello", line 20 return to 10, GOSUB "a"(go to a subroutine name "a") perform the sub routine (a series of functions like adding up, or changing to a set), then back to the program, lots of 'If this happened, then do this'...etc.... what you do reminds me a lot of looking through the old computer magazine where they had the programs typed out, so you could type them into your computer.... My group would remove the title of the articles and try to guess what the BASIC program was doing.... Not that I don't enjoy it on purely "crochet" terms... it just sends me back to the 80's-90s of programming, too.
60 yo here as well. Now I can’t stop thinking of BASIC. Had TRS 80 in my parents’ basement in high school when I took that class. Went to college and tried to major in programming but it was not fun anymore and my classmates were too sexist. That was because I was at a commuter college with a lot of 40+ yo students, all male. The guys my age were fine with me but not the older guys. Sad now that I let them push me out. But BASIC was silly and fun. Thanks for the reminder of that. Enjoy your crochet journey; the possibilities are endless.
Hello Corinna, Un petit bonjour depuis la suisse . J'espère que tout vas bien pour vous et votre famille, je vous souhaite tout le meilleur et me réjouis de vous retrouver avec un nouveau tuto ou mystery crochet.😘
This is absolutely representative of the 1970's. I feel like a kid again, having watched this. I was not expecting coasters, but it makes sense, given the decade, and you're right, they would make excellent appliques on everything. The size 0 hook suggested with rug yarn sent up a red flag for me; I think they meant a size O, which would have been huge. The largest hook I own is a size L, and that's 8mm, so the O hook would probably be a centimeter in diameter. You did a great job, no matter how many petals you ended up with. And for you, I'll learn the magic ring; you could have done a ch 4 and 20 dc in the last ch from the hook, but to each his (or her) own.
When I crochet in back loops, I pick up the bump below the stitch. It tightens up everything. I make a lot of overlay items (Lilla Björn blankets) and it makes a HUGE difference! I love the patterns your son chooses! What a fun idea.
I love watching these! Not only are they fun to watch, but you also really help me learn to read written patterns. That's still a struggle of mine. So thank you.
My daughter has been wanting me to recreate (from memory) an old crocheted dress she had, back in the mid 90's. It was black cotton, with a row of small flower appliques, similar to these, at the hemline (worked in size 10 cotton). So, I'll be saving this one, for if/when I make that for her.
Hello Corrina, cute flower coaster. I agree the little flower moffet can be used as a coaster, or added to clothing, or a bag. Looking forward to you next video as always. ❤
"I keep coming up short..." It seems to me that when the pattern says (for example) ch 3, 20 dc in ring, you've been processing that as ch 3, 19 dc for a total of 20 st, when you should have had a total of 21 st-the ch plus the 20..
I made coasters with a soil brown center and green leaves around. If you fold them up an put them into a small flower pot they look like plants! Wouldn't it be fun to make one flower and attach it to a chopstick, covered in green yarn and put it in the middle???? Uhhh, all those ideas!!
I am early 😁 and excited! Sweet indeed. If you go to put it on yourbswaeter I would recoment going by the nomber of three, its an art "rule". Adleast I would go by two or repaet it on the shoulder, but every tast is different. I can see this as nice summery deco on a balcony as well.
Ok but I have been looking for a pattern for a heptagon for a blanket I'm working on and the case for this is just what I needed. This could not have come at a better time, and I'm so grateful for it!

I am lost! Isn't a size ZERO hook a STEEL hook? I'm trying to figure out this pattern cuz in my mind, zero hook w/Rug yarn??? 🤔🤪 So glad you changed yarn AND hook! Thank you! 🩷✌️🤘
I think you were supposed to have a chain 3 PLUS 20 dc at the start for a total of 21….that gives you 3 ch to work each petal…2 for the petal plus one slip stitch to separate the 7 petals. The second slip just serves to get you into the right stitch to start the next petal. Note: the lily pad bottom of the case also has seven sections.
Wonderful! I am really into Peace Activism, and this project taught me how to increase my flower power! Thank you! P.S. A Bulky-Five Weight yarn is good for coasters.

When pattern asks for back loop only so as to leave the front loop making that nice line on the design, you can pick up the back loop and the back bar loop to have a secure stitch and still get the desired look of leaving the front loop unworked!
The petal thing was just the initial chain 3 was counted as one of your 20dc, when it should've been ch3 AND 20dc, which would've given 21 stitches around allowing for 7 petals.
