probably what got me in the panic attack scene is that what Perrito did, resting his head on Puss, is what IRL support dogs do. it's to add pressure, which grounds the owner.
I had a babysitter who had a yellow lab, completely untrained. I was stressed about school stuff one day and started having a mental breakdown in the corner of one of the back rooms. I look up and her dog walked in, looked at me, and came over to lay his head in my lap just like this. I think it's more than just training... it's instinct. When they sense someone they trust in distress, they can't help but find a way to comfort them. There's a reason dogs are amongst my favorite animals.
@@indodinoyoutubeCats are very similar. There were many times where I was crying and panicking and my sweet girl hopped onto my chest or lap and just purred softly until I felt better
Out of every character in the movie, he had it the hardest. And yet he's the most optimistic. He's living proof that you shouldn't let trauma consume you.
It's not so new. In Lethal Weapon 4, we learn that Leo was an orphan. And yet, he's always in a good mood. A more extreme case is Sid in Ice Age: his parents are constantly abandoning him, his best friends are not the nicest animals ever and he goes along with that.
@@lindildeev5721 Well, while Manny and Diego are annoyed by him sometimes, they do care about him and Sid is grateful for having them. Same with Donkey with Shrek.
@@lindildeev5721Difference in Ice Age is that Sid is implied to be overwhelmingly stupid, and that's the main reason he gets through it (much like capybaras). Here they pretty strongly indicate that while Perrito's age has prevented him from fully processing the trauma, he is actually pretty wise, unlike Sid whose a fool through and through. Can't speak to any Lethal Weapon movie though.
The fact that they took that one super annoying comic relief character from every kids movie since the beginning of time and made them actually LIKEABLE and CUTE and FUNNY will never cease to amaze me. I love Perrito.
I feel like people who think that Perrito doesn't realize he has been through trauma are misunderstanding him. He knows what he went through is traumatic, but he is trying to tell them it in a way that doesn't convey that fact. He is just not realizing that they understand how traumatic it is even with his positive spin on it. It also is a general part of his cheery disposition. He's not in denial that it was bad, he's just trying to not traumadump onto other people.
While I agree, I think that furthermore it isn't so much that he isn't "trauma dumping," as much as he is both wise enough to know better than to dwell on the trauma like Kitty Softpaws does, and that it happened at a young enough age that his brain normalized what happened to some degree. It was traumatic and painful, but he "gets over it" less completely but more quickly. Compare this to Kitty Softpaws, who let's something mild by comparison tear her apart by dwelling on it. Perrito would have been mentally destroyed if he had done anything but move forward, which really does make him the expert at dealing with trauma among the characters presented. He isn't perfect, but it is a good lesson about the dangers of dwelling on trauma. Even if the trauma is only partially processed, dwelling =/= (meaningful, useful) processing, it just magnifies the problem.
It’s just a coping mechanism he had to adopt since before or after he was abandoned by his family, as u could see from his scars and shit it was a lot. Of course he knows he’s been through abuse but his body and mind doesn’t allow him to process that, as a protection method towards himself not because he doesn’t want to "trouble" or "trauma dump" on kitty and puss. Usually children who have faced abuse since a very young age show this kind of coping technique as their mentally not mature enough to process it yet, he deffo knows his situation was terrible but hasn’t fully accepted it. Tho he is wise because of his experiences [children with trauma usually are], he still has a lot to process in the future as he gets older. Irl, humans having this coping mechanism aren’t healthy and get therapy later in life when they are in a safe space [both mentally and physically] to process their trauma. At least that’s what I got from his character as I’ve seen clients very similar to Perrito when I was doing my internship under a clinical psychologist.
@synnamon6076 Are you sure it's a coping mechanism of children or a cognitive limitation? My understanding was the latter (in this case, aside from things he has figured out as an individual that would not be typical of children, such as the value of grounding). My understanding was that children normalize by accident: because their brains are still trying to figure out what normal is, as opposed to an active process.
It’s also the fact that he’s pretty smart, and he knows better than to cling to trauma It happened, yeah it’s upsetting that it happened, but it doesn’t change that it happened, more than that, it doesn’t change that it’s IN THE PAST Unless it’s STILL happening, there’s no point in clinging to that pain, and Perrito knows it It’s why he suggests that Puss and Kitty just TALK IT OUT, so they can move past it, so they can leave the pain in the past where it belongs Obviously we shouldn’t forget bad experiences, or else we could end up making the same mistakes that lead us to those bad experiences in the first place, but leave the pain in the past where it belongs

The panic attack scene is legit one of the most realistic depictions of a panic attack I've seen in a movie ever. Puss is freaking the hell out and Perrito isn't pushing, he's not pressuring Puss to answer, he's not forcing himself onto Puss, he simply sees him panicking and simply gives him gentle pressure, almost like a soft hug, and a head to pat. Such a perfect wholesome way to end the night before I go to sleep. Thank you TH-cam algorithm for recommending this video to me (also love the Nintendogs music, perfect cap to the video!)
3:06 this is amazing. This is actually a task that some PTSD service dogs or anxiety, alert service dogs are trained for, the behaviour is called grounding, and it’s meant to just make you focus on the fact that there’s some thing other than your own anxiety and fears, some dogs, do it by licking your hand others do it by just resting their head on your chest and sinking up their breathing so that you can follow along with their breathing and calm down, I think it’s amazing that they added that detail in because Perito wants to be a therapy dog and help people. (and for the record yes, I am aware that therapy dogs and service dogs are different things, I just think it’s cute that he pretty much self taught him self this grounding technique)
I’ve been searching for this video for 2 months straight! I don’t know how but I saw this video the day after I saw the movie when it came out and couldn’t find it again?! But honestly, this video was just my whole thought process watching the movie lmao, this was perfect
I love Perrito so much. So refreshing to see a character with trauma who doesn't wallow in it or use it to define themself. It's truly something he'd rather move on from, and he's simply greatful to be alive and cherishes his friends.
This is how you write a comedy relief character. Despite the name, their existence isn't meant to be a joke to the audience, its meant to relieve the audience and the characters when times are tough, usually via jokes but it can be other things as well. Make things less dark and gloomy.
The scene where Perrito comforts Puss during his panic attack is my favorite in the movie. I relate to anxiety, and dogs are so comforting. I didn't tear up, but my heart felt fuzzy.

1:38 "nO oNeS ThAt DumB nO OnE's ThAt NISE"
The world needs more people like Perrito
If Perrito was Paired with Naruto,Their Talk nonJutsu would be UNSTOPPABLE❤
An introverted cat with a patient, loyal dog. Poor Perrito is too pure for this world.
Everyone needs a ride or die best friend like perrito HE'S TOO PURE❤
perrito has so much trauma and laughs about it. i sobbed when i was in the theater. idk why he just made me so happy on my bad day when i went to the theater.
OMG!! The original video was deleted!! I was soo obsessed with that bcause of the edit, i watch it everytime i get sad. Thanks soo much for restoring this 😭😭😭
I’m glad you found it again! 💜💛
Such a perfect wholesome way to end the night before I go to sleep. Thank you TH-cam algorithm for recommending this video to me (also love the Nintendogs music, perfect cap to the video!)
Lol i love how he ended up naming himself perrito, literally means puppy in spanish. Too cute
"The happiest person has the worst trauma"
Perrito is the definition of this quote
I literally memorized this movie line by line for a while and it was so funny and now sometimes I recite lines for my friends and they’re so over it 😂
3:06 this is amazing.
PERRITO MA BABYYYYY (Harvey Guillén has my fucking heartttt)
For the first 19 years of my life, I didn’t realize I had trauma, really. Now I do
Perito just acts like their kid so is so cute
2:18 kitty softpaws face😭😭😭
The sweetest puppy here
[not] FUN FACT: His favorite 'sweater' is made of the sock he chewed his way through-- he held onto it just in case his former family wanted it back.
2:06 😨 perrito has trauma?? I mean, I watched the movie, but I forgot about this- I also just love Puss in Boots and Kitty Softpaws’ reactions.
I’ve been searching for this video for 2 months straight! I don’t know how but I saw this video the day after I saw the movie when it came out and couldn’t find it again?!
But honestly, this video was just my whole thought process watching the movie lmao, this was perfect
One of the greatest dogs of all time
,,What's Puss in boots?"
I love Perrito so much. So refreshing to see a character with trauma who doesn't wallow in it or use it to define themself. It's truly something he'd rather move on from, and he's simply greatful to be alive and cherishes his friends.
Everyone deserves a perrito in theyre life 😭❤️
I’m literally sobbing lmao great video I love perrito so much 🥹
Noooo, the nintendogs music in the background!!! 😭😭😭💘
1:40 no thoughts. head empty. just perrito :3
2:46 Puss' expression just says "Oh, right, forgot about that."
PROTECT THIS LITTLE BEAN!!!
God save me and bring perrito with meeeeee 💀
This is how you write a comedy relief character.
Despite the name, their existence isn't meant to be a joke to the audience, its meant to relieve the audience and the characters when times are tough, usually via jokes but it can be other things as well. Make things less dark and gloomy.
I was laughing at 2:26 😂
The way they looked at eachother when perrito said how he got thrown into a river with a sock and a rock 😭
If I ever meet Harvey I think I'm going to give him a big hug because his characters have genuinely helped me through some of my darkest times.
I cried when sometimes they tried to hurt him😭
Me don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry it’s just very very cute dog. That definitely does not have a sad story.
I fully expected him to be extremely annoying, but I really love him.
Perrito is too pure for this cruel world.
The scene where Perrito comforts Puss during his panic attack is my favorite in the movie. I relate to anxiety, and dogs are so comforting. I didn't tear up, but my heart felt fuzzy.
That thumbnail is what made me click on the video
2:21 and I only just now realized that the sweater is the sock
0:43 he would be a epic therapy dog, he would make me feel happier.
