4:50 Can we just talk about how beautiful this scene is. It was hard for Puss to finally open up and confess to Kitty, how he hurt her so badly. DreamWorks could have EASILY not mentioned Santa Coloma after arguing about it while stealing the map and just brush is off, but the writers knew better. Also, I genuinely want to know what Kitty's full actions were that day. Maybe she got ready for the wedding, then had second thoughts because of Puss's obsession about keeping his legend. But deep down wanted Puss to show up and waited above Santa Coloma, to see if Puss would really arrive, and felt hurt when she knew he wasn't going to come, that way she knew Puss didn't end up arriving because how would she know Puss didn't show up when she claimed she didn't go as well in the movie. Why else would she say" Trust you? Like I did at Santa Coloma?!"
Regarding those who think that Kitty didn't show up at the wedding, here are my thoughts on why I think she absolutely did show up: 1) She spends the first half of the movie clearly being pissed at Puss for something, and by the way that he grabbed her by the tail, it's clear that they know each other more than simple acquaintances (hinting at a deeper relationship) 2. From seeing how she double-crossed Goldi and the bears, we know that she's more than willing to lie if she seems it necessary 3. Kitty's wish, as shown by the map, is all about companionship, so why wouldn't she show up at the wedding (as marriage is often seen as the ultimate companionship) 4. She overhears Puss tall about Santa Caloma with Perrito and how much he regrets it 5. If she didn't show up, how would she know that Puss didn't show up (i.e. being left at the altar implies that you're at the altar in the first place) 6. If she didn't show up, wouldn't that make her a bit of a hypocrite, and thus lessen the severity of Puss' wrongdoing? Which then leads me to why she would lie about not showing up 1. She is helping Puss not to wallow in self-loathing, since she can already see that he's sorry 2. She's making the point about why would she want to show up for "that guy" (i.e. Puss' narcissistic legendary self), and acknowledging how much she's seen him change I hope this is a sufficient explanation for that particular sequence, because that seems to be where most people are confused with this movie. Either way, this movie is still amazing 😍😁😍
@@g.d.graham2446THIS. My thoughts exactly, couldn't have said it any better! I know the idea of her not showing up could be seen as funny for the sake of some comedic relief in the scene, because it came outta nowhere. But I think it's pretty clear she lied to Puss about not going so that she could finally call him out on being egotistical and full of himself. Also her saying she "didn't show up" could be metaphorical, like she DID show up to the wedding, but she showed up for the Puss In Boots who loved her and wasnt so self centered. Which is why she says "I wasn't gonna show up for that guy", implying she wanted to marry the good Puss, but now that he's changed, she can't see the same man she showed up for anymore. Well, except for right then, after he finally apologized ^^
the fact that Kitty only wanted to use the wish to have someone she could trust is actually so beyond fucking depressing and it literally just now hit me. this poor cat must've had her trust broken a thousand times over for her to be this desperate to have just one person in her life that she could trust 😢
It makes me love that scene where Puss gives Kitty the map even more. Puss arguably needs it more; he is on his last life & could one day die & lose the life he just fought Death for. But for him, Kitty’s wish (& also the fact that he stood her up and still regrets it) is more important. And with that gesture, Kitty knows that she can trust Puss & refuses the wish. I love this movie so much, it watched it twice in theaters lol
I’m glad they finally made it work in the Last Wish. And man the line “Kitty one life spent with you is all that I could wish for…” Wow. That was beautiful.
No joke, it was so touching, that it made me on the verge of tears. I have never heard that line ever, and it was one of the most important lines in the movie. Live. Your. Life. Don’t waste it. Enjoy the people you have made a bond with over time. Value your life too. It’s good to get your favorite things out of the way, before you bite the dust and eventually die of something.

I don't think the romantic type of love is special, and I think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other. I think humans should just ditch concepts like dating, marriage, and pair bonding. I feel like this world would be a much better place without romance than it is with it. In my opinion, romantic love should not be on the highest pedestal. In my opinion, parents and siblings' family love is the strongest. Family knows who you are. Romance is fake for lots of people, put on a false persona and romance on most parts gets ugly real fast. For the reality of romance is no Disney love story. Parents and siblings' family love is one of the strongest types of love there is. If romantic love is actually real, it would be one of the weakest types of love there is.
What I love about this movie is that the argument between Puss and Kitty at the end isn’t because of some “misunderstanding” or “liar revealed” like in so many other movies. Puss never lied to Kitty, and Kitty has every right to be mad: Puss wants his life back not because he wants to spend more time with his friends and lover, but for his selfish desire to be some “hero”
Fr, sick and tired from those tropes. I also liked how him running from church wasn't a surprise to her, something unexpected that she would argue with him about for half of the movie- instead she understood beforehand that he won't settle, so even after meeting again she's never truly angry at him, more grumpy. And that's also why they warmed up so fast after, the love was never gone for both of them, just repressed
Yeah, Puss only left her because he was just absolutely scared out of his skin by Death. He saw her but either didn’t want to endanger her or just once again put his welfare above hers. Selfish deep down, yes, but in retrospect, it’s completely understandable. Even Kitty says “When you said you were being chased by Death, I thought you were being dramatic.”
@@glibchubik4090 I have a feeling that what she said to him was a lie to make him feel better in the moment. She did go to the wedding, and he didn't show up. She's been mad at him ever since then, but seeing him actually change as a person got her to make up that lie to make him feel better about himself. Her line "you don't seem like that kinda guy anymore." Cements that. If he never changed, she would never have said that to him.
@@Crispifordthe3rd515 Definitely thought Kitty just said that to make him feel better, since if she really didn't show up herself, then all the anger and resentment she pushed on Puss would be undeserving and hypocritical.
As someone who has never seen the first movie, I think they masterfully portrayed their dynamic as former friends/lovers. That whole bickering they had about Puss' new beard was peak "like an old married couple". And when she's cutting it for him, bro deadass fell in love with her all over again. 😭🥰

The Santa Coloma twist still hits me in the heart. Rarely have I seen animated characters make that kind of official commitment and NEVER do you see it fall apart so tragically. Heavy stuff, freaking love this movie.
I love LOVE how Kitty says "PUSS" the second time when they first see each other in this movie. It sounds like an ACTUAL cat growl mixed with her VA's voice. It's just a really good detail and honestly the sound designers and VA cast should be super proud. (Everyone who helped make this movie should be proud actually.) Also I swear I've seen practically every single face these two make on my cat's face and Idk if I should be amused or concerned.
Their relationship feels so balanced, and neither are on top of the other in the dynamic. Both can feel comfortable when led by one another. They are just as wholesome as they are feisty with each other. Also Antonio's voice sounds hot why it gotta be on a character that looks like a cat- =3=
Kitty Softpaws has so much more character when you realise that she lied about not being at the altar just to make Puss feel better that HE LITERALLY BAILED FROM THE WEDDING How do I know that Kitty Softpaws lied? Well, if she wasn't there, how would she know that Puss was there as well, and she wouldn't keep bringing up Santa Coloma in the first place. When she knew about Puss' fear that caused the demons in him, she still stays and gets him out of it because of love. This character arc made her so much more important in Puss 1 than I ever realised.

I think it's important to acnowledge they both didnt make to the altar to show how similar both of them are. They fell in love because they were kindred spirits
I think it was pretty obvious that she was lying abt not attending the altar either, otherwise she wouldn't be so broken and angry- heck why would she even make a wish about wanting someone to trust into her life when Kitty keeps bringing up abt what happened in Santa Coloma. That shit pretty much wound her for real and after seeing Puss changed & was sorry, she lied by lighting up the mood lol
Wait, do irl cats even show romantic affection by anything REMOTELY resembling kissing? I know lions don’t, but idk about “house”cats like Puss and Kitty
@eldrichhorrornya5933 Don't they normally just snuggle? Cats use body language to communicate, so it would make sense that they would show love that way.
@@eldrichhorrornya5933 Do irl cats fight with swords, talk, and predominantly stand on two legs? Anyway, they do get a kissing scene at the end of the first movie but it's covered.
After the first film's ending, I didn't pay much attention to Puss and Kitty's relationship. The memory of the ship is established, but I just treated them as the standard straight man-woman pairing in movies. So it wasn't _that_ important. And for SoftBoots themselves, I thought they're the type to just have off-on relationships...and they do seem the type. They were both young, and from their characters, probably preferred their own company after a while. That's why knowing that they ACTUALLY almost got married in the sequel came as a surprise to me. And made me appreciate their relationship so much more. Maybe somewhere along the timeline, they matured from the sassy flirting banter, grew to respect and like each other's company. And as they grew older, the meet ups became longer, and maybe they'd spend months to years together...until eventually one of them proposed. Edit, forgot to add another important detail: It's the fact that Antonio and Salma have older voices now, that _really_ help sell their "married couple" vibe. Y'all should hear their voices in the first film😭
Dreamworks knows how to make ships work. They tease and develop the ship before canonizing it. Other companies should learn. THAT is a recipe for a healthy ship. PLUS PUSS, KITTY, AND PERRITO ARE A FAMILY! FIGHT MEH! Edit: I've Started a war.💀
The animators and VA’s did SUCH an amazing job with these two, probably the best ive evr seen. The facial expressions were flawless and perfectly showed the emotions better than most live actikn movies, trh voice acting was sk good, so much heart and passion in the lines. And the writing is just superb. Their relationship isnt cliché, it doesn’t have that stupid misunderstanding scene, they ACTUALLY COMMUNICATE to each other and legitimately ask for forgiveness and it is given It is just so perfect. One of the best romantic relationships i have ever seen in a movie
4:27 also she hears "I wish I hadn't hurt her so badly" obviously she's thinking Puss' wish was to undo his mistake (rather than getting his 9 lives back) Which is why a little later she says they can share the wish. 5:20 yeah this scene.
oH MY GOSH I NEVER REALIZED THAT I thought she said "We can share the wish" because she wanted to wish for someone she could trust, and because she noticed Puss was changing, she believed she could have him back if he just "played his cards right" aka continued being a better person
For the record, SO GLAD someone remembers their first dance fight and how they danced on each other's boots to defy gravity 😁😭😁 Also, that video ending 😆😆😆😆😆
Ikr! He's probably thinking he screwed up so badly that she won't even take his offer, that she never wants anything to do with him ever again and that she was done with him for good. You can clearly see how broken he was and his heart broke into a million pieces 💔
Man, DreamWorks really hit home with their newest movies. Both The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots handled romance in a way that was well developed and enjoyable to watch and managed to hit the corners in every other way. It’s official. DreamWorks is BAAAAACKK
Bad Guys was a bit messy in the world-building department, but the rest of the story was very entertaining and energetic. Puss in Boots 2 definitely seals the deal that DreamWorks is back though
It’s like Puss went from a young reckless adult in his mid 20s to an old man in his mid 50s with a mid life crisis. (Also him with the beard makes him look old too) And for Kitty, she went from being a young rebellious woman in her mid 20s to an old woman in her mid 50s with a broken heart and with trust and anger issues.
Whenever Kitty points her sword at Puss, he stands his ground. He knows she wouldn't stab him for real. ...but in that last scene, he backed away. Hands up. Because that time he's unsure if Kitty actually will, and both of them are distressed to be sure that she wouldn't stab him. That tension wasn't lost on us as well (the viewers) because we're used to weapons being pointed at main characters in movies and they usually never get hit (plot armor and all). We can clearly see that Kitty is too angry that we've become unsure ourselves if she's truly capable of threatening and fighting Puss for real. And Puss was too desperate he was hardly listening to her, with his eyes immediately darting back to the map. Fuckin gold. The animators _absolutely_ ✨delivered✨ Edit: Also OP can you do the trident? Edit 2: Came back to this absolute gem. I still adore the development these two had, starting from the first film. Intended or not, the SoftBoots relationship development is my highlight of the two films. We went from super sassy and flirty young cats who probably had off-on relationships offscreen to older ones that's evidently spent time enough together to know each other's mannerisms and boundaries...and enough to actually consider tying the know. I WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT THE SOFTBOOTS DEVELOPMENT✨
@@chwaterchearthchfirechair8254 that’s a good point. He wasn’t afraid of death from Kitty ever, but once he learns death is literally coming for him, he becomes afraid of anything that could kill Jim
I gotta say that “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” had an interesting relationship including Puss and Kitty Softpaws. In the beginning, and the first ever Jack Horner chase, they never trusted each other. They are clearly angry over it. Then, over time, Puss wanted Kitty Softpaws to trust her, and that’s what Kitty Softpaws did. Kitty Softpaws had some sassy-like behavior towards Puss sometimes, which really added onto her character. It grew eventually to the point of where they love each other, with that being the movie’s conclusion: Finding the light to guide you to trust the correct people, even if they hated you in the first place. Building trust is also another major component with their relationship too. With Kitty Softpaws stating that she too, never actually arrived to Santa Coloma, changes the entire plot. She said that she couldn’t compete with her one true love, being Puss. She says that “You don’t seem like that guy anymore”, stating that Puss changed himself, to become a trustworthy person. Absolutely one of the best relationships in an animated movie ever.
I personally took her saying that she didn't show up as a white lie, (because why else would she be so pissed at him) and it was more about making the point that she sees how he's changing from his narcissistic legendary self to actually caring about her.
@@g.d.graham2446 Somewhat true. I feel like that... What is the reason of Kitty being so mad at Puss, even though that she says that she never arrived? Like... Puss left her at the altar. But, then, later she says that she never arrived? That doesn't make much sense... Why would you be mad at somebody for not even being there, when you yourself left as well?
@@browniex5120 You're working off the assumption that Kitty is as selfless as Puss, but that's not quite the case. In the first film, when Puss tries to get closer to Kitty she tells him that it wouldn't work out because she is "all about the score". She may have helped him in San Ricardo against the giant goose, but that's not because she cared about the town, she just cared about Puss. The second film isn't that much different. While Puss only found out about the map to the Wishing Star after eavesdropping on the Bears, Kitty flat out lies to them so she can steal the map for herself. Puss has something of an honour code, when he's hired for a task he's loyal to a fault and the Bears never actually hired Puss, so he didn't have any obligations when he tried to take the map from Jack Horner. Not to mention aside from Puss, Peritto and the people who declawed her, Kitty's only other relationships in both films were with people who wanted to hire her and even then she tends to change up the deal depending on her needs. Kitty is a cat who knows what she wants and she didn't want to compete with "The Legend".
I think one of the most beautiful things about their relationship is the ups and downs they've had. Unlike most other movies where two main characters, boy and girl, fall in love and they live happily ever after. Puss and Kitty went through a lot to get to the point where they are now. In the first movie they fell in love with each other (not right away, Puss fell in love with Kitty the first time he saw her but for Kitty it took sometime before she felt the same about him) and they even shared a kiss in the end and we thought everything was perfect. And then comes Santa Coloma where Puss betrays Kitty and leaves her at the altar (even though he regrets it later). Kitty is obviously devistated. And then in the last wish they find each other again but clearly aren't on good terms with each other. But what I love the most about this whole thing was how they were able to regain each other's trust and fall back in love and be able to work things out. Their relationship is really beautiful and to me they are the best DreamWorks (if not the best animated) couple
When I saw this in the theater I was kind of upset when Kitty showed up because it was clear they weren’t on good terms after the first film. When I found out Santa Coloma wasn’t a heist my jaw literally dropped. They were going to get MARRIED? I waited 11 years for this movie and I think it was worth it.
The fact that kitty soft paws was declawed, makes me think that she is probably also spayed. So them adopting Perrito as their kid actually makes sense in a way. Because she wouldn't be able to have her own kids anyways.
@@ThatgirlMila14 the whole point of Perrito was that he is an orphan that nobody wanted but started following Puss because he at least tolerated him. Later on, Puss & Kitty realize they actually have a soft spot for him and they also tried to name Perrito after their quest was over, it’s very likely they adopted Perrito. We should have more found-family relationships in Cinema. There’s already a lot of biological family films - most recently being Encanto. It’s also very implied that Perrito never had a real, healthy family and after meeting Puss & Kitty, he found that real, healthy family.
@@ThatgirlMila14Well who's to say she didn't? Their relationship was personal enough that they were going to get married, so she probably would've mentioned she can't have kids for obvious reasons. Us as viewers don't have to hear her say it to theorize

@@MrGentleman2051 i mean that’s true, both of them have their “dominant” moments where one takes the lead and the other follows, but kitty gives more of it than puss in my opinion. puss is like a sweet, witty, flirtatious little himbo who also has a gift for cooking and is scared that his last life means that he can’t help or save people anymore, he can’t live up to his legends, he can’t be the hero everyone wants. meanwhile kitty is very sassy, strong, independent and also flirtatious woman who knows how to handle herself, but is looking for someone to rely on because she had no one to for years. so for me, it feels like kitty is not only dominant in the certain ways she talks to and treats puss, but in the way she carries herself and looks out for herself and others.

But for him, Kitty’s wish (& also the fact that he stood her up and still regrets it) is more important. And with that gesture, Kitty knows that she can trust Puss & refuses the wish.
I love this movie so much, it watched it twice in theaters lol
It makes me wonder what her life was like before she met Puss.
Trust issues are common in declawed cats. Declawing is animal abuse.
I’m glad they finally made it work in the Last Wish.
And man the line “Kitty one life spent with you is all that I could wish for…”
Wow. That was beautiful.

One of the best and most touching lines in the film, and maybe the entire series.

Fuckin very sad, but true...
they fight, but couples who never fight don't exist
And, unbelievable, they TALK WITH EACH OTHER ABOUT THEIR PROBLEMS.
W relationship.
Puss never lied to Kitty, and Kitty has every right to be mad:
Puss wants his life back not because he wants to spend more time with his friends and lover, but for his selfish desire to be some “hero”
Abd he’s conflicted and terrified

7:28 kitty’s voice and the way they looked at each other made me sing and dance. Honestly ALOT of the parts with them two made me do that. Love them
Well her voice actor is Salma Hayek so what do expect
Kitty Softpaws has so much more character when you realise that she lied about not being at the altar just to make Puss feel better that HE LITERALLY BAILED FROM THE WEDDING
How do I know that Kitty Softpaws lied? Well, if she wasn't there, how would she know that Puss was there as well, and she wouldn't keep bringing up Santa Coloma in the first place. When she knew about Puss' fear that caused the demons in him, she still stays and gets him out of it because of love. This character arc made her so much more important in Puss 1 than I ever realised.
Regarding those who think that Kitty didn't show up at the wedding, here are my thoughts on why I think she absolutely did show up:
1) She spends the first half of the movie clearly being pissed at Puss for something, and by the way that he grabbed her by the tail, it's clear that they know each other more than simple acquaintances (hinting at a deeper relationship)
2. From seeing how she double-crossed Goldi and the bears, we know that she's more than willing to lie if she seems it necessary
3. Kitty's wish, as shown by the map, is all about companionship, so why wouldn't she show up at the wedding (as marriage is often seen as the ultimate companionship)
4. She overhears Puss tall about Santa Caloma with Perrito and how much he regrets it
5. If she didn't show up, how would she know that Puss didn't show up (i.e. being left at the altar implies that you're at the altar in the first place)
6. If she didn't show up, wouldn't that make her a bit of a hypocrite, and thus lessen the severity of Puss' wrongdoing?
Which then leads me to why she would lie about not showing up
1. She is helping Puss not to wallow in self-loathing, since she can already see that he's sorry
2. She's making the point about why would she want to show up for "that guy" (i.e. Puss' narcissistic legendary self), and acknowledging how much she's seen him change
I hope this is a sufficient explanation for that particular sequence, because that seems to be where most people are confused with this movie.
Either way, this movie is still amazing 😍😁😍
isn't that simply a theory, you make it sound like a fact
I think it's important to acnowledge they both didnt make to the altar to show how similar both of them are. They fell in love because they were kindred spirits
I think it was pretty obvious that she was lying abt not attending the altar either, otherwise she wouldn't be so broken and angry- heck why would she even make a wish about wanting someone to trust into her life when Kitty keeps bringing up abt what happened in Santa Coloma. That shit pretty much wound her for real and after seeing Puss changed & was sorry, she lied by lighting up the mood lol

Same with Kitty. Their special boot trick to defy the laws of gravity. I love how Goldilocks reacted to it. "Eh? What the?" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
After the first film's ending, I didn't pay much attention to Puss and Kitty's relationship.

Man, DreamWorks really hit home with their newest movies. Both The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots handled romance in a way that was well developed and enjoyable to watch and managed to hit the corners in every other way. It’s official. DreamWorks is BAAAAACKK
i like how in bad guys the romance wasnt a big plot point and was just there to emphasize the point of the movie, while also being very charming
Bad Guys was a bit messy in the world-building department, but the rest of the story was very entertaining and energetic. Puss in Boots 2 definitely seals the deal that DreamWorks is back though
They went from unhinged sexual tension on the first movie to bickering married couple on that one
It’s like Puss went from a young reckless adult in his mid 20s to an old man in his mid 50s with a mid life crisis. (Also him with the beard makes him look old too)
And for Kitty, she went from being a young rebellious woman in her mid 20s to an old woman in her mid 50s with a broken heart and with trust and anger issues.
@@m.c.ufan1019 fr

THEIR DYNAMIC IS EVERYTHING OMG!!! Hands down the greatest Dreamworks ship of all freaking time, I swear it!!!
I love these two. They're like old grandparents.
3:21 The reflection of Kitty in Puss's eyes makes me say "Whoa"😍 it's also one of the most beautiful thing I've seen in animation history. More animated movies should have that. The Santa Coloma backstory/flashback always has me crying in tears.😥😥😥😥😥
It's the most saddest, heartbreaking backstory I've ever heard. It makes me want to listen to Father and Son by Cat Stevens. It's also like Tony's funeral from Endgame, Peter's mom dying from the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy, Iceman's funeral from Top Gun: Maverick and T'Challa's funeral from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. (Those two came out the same year with this movie.) 5:20 That's exactly what I thought first.
I would like to see them meet Tom and Jerry.
They would team up with them.
I dont think they are grandparents, they are in their early- mid thirties in tlw.
@@ThatgirlMila14 Yeah, whatever.
@@ThatgirlMila14 Yep, seems right. That's my thoughts.

4:45 godamn. Almost made me have a heart attack man
It’s honestly insane how Puss, Kitty and Perrito are a subtle mirror to Shrek, Fiona and Donkey
5:34 "Diane and Wolf could never" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
When they didn't get together in the first movie I was so incredibly upset, I'm so happy the movie ended this way. Honestly a masterpiece
To be fair, they did have a kiss at the end, albeit it was behind the hat.
"Me when they don't even have the wedding scene" omg ikr, relatable

Uhhhh uhhhhh that's crazy crazy
N1GGA SHE’S A F*CKING CAT
Hey they're being honest at least
girlboss x malewife, kitty is the one who truly wears the boots in this relationship, i take no criticism
I feel like they're more balanced you know what I mean? They treat each other equally but I don't know that's what I think.
Considering how during the entirety of the first movie Puss was in the lead, i don't mind changing the balance in the sequel
@@glibchubik4090 you mean like making it equally or make that Kitty will be the one who leads
@@MrGentleman2051
i mean that’s true, both of them have their “dominant” moments where one takes the lead and the other follows, but kitty gives more of it than puss in my opinion. puss is like a sweet, witty, flirtatious little himbo who also has a gift for cooking and is scared that his last life means that he can’t help or save people anymore, he can’t live up to his legends, he can’t be the hero everyone wants.
meanwhile kitty is very sassy, strong, independent and also flirtatious woman who knows how to handle herself, but is looking for someone to rely on because she had no one to for years.
so for me, it feels like kitty is not only dominant in the certain ways she talks to and treats puss, but in the way she carries herself and looks out for herself and others.
Their chemistry and compatibility is honestly crazy good, well-matched for each other since their first dance fight
5:27 ok well now that i think about it now that is probably what puss would wish for judging by the sound kitty makes at this part
That scene was actually when he fell off the table by getting his boot stuck to it w/ honey while trying to get the map. He made a gesture to kitty that he got it, and when he fell off she sighed, irritated. But yeah, if u just listen to the audio, it sounds kinda sus ඞ
