Croods 2 slaying gender norms for 7 minutes straight

- I really love this movie lol I kept watching it over and over until I realized that it's literally defying gender norms left and right. No wonder I like it.
I also love the music in it! Go listen to "Feel the Thunder" by HAIM and "I Think I Love You" by Tenacious D! Both are such good songs near the end :):)
Song I used in this video:
Neopolitan (Aircheck) from Animal Crossing New Horizons
I want to watch this movie so bad but I can't. I don't know where I can :(
Apparently it’s free right now on the “Fandango at Home” app! Good luck finding/watching it there! 🥰

I liked how Eep's father wasn't sad about her daughter leaving WITH a boy like a lot of portray the fathers, but he was being sad about his baby leaving 😭
I was sad for Eep's father at first but then I realized that eep and guy were just moving literally next door. lmao
@@cutieoui7772 same😂
I like that even though they had Grug be the one to be slow to adapt to new environments they still kept his growth from the first movie (which is related to him still being upset about Eep leaving but no longer being anxious about her leaving *with Guy*)
fr
When I first saw that part I saw the backpacking bags and thought they were going on an adventure too but then it's literally not even 100ft away 🤣
ive always loved how in the end of this movie, eep isnt portrayed as a dramatic teenaged girl, guy realizes he was wrong and apologizes
how does this have so many likes but no comments
I hate when movies make the right one out to be dramatic, guy tried to change her and she was rightfully upset so he apologised as he should have
No one ever seems to notice these things that bothered me (1st movie also guys this is just the first movie I absouloutley LOVED the 2nd one)
1. Y’all know the thing where its like pretty bad to call a girl dramatic? Well in croods the father says this: “Eep stop being so..dramatic!“
2. The bear (forgot the name) gets hurt or whatever by not listening to her FATHER not parents
3. Apparently Eep is so bad for dropping a rock on guy when guy LITERALLY HITS HER IN THE HEAD!
4. Eep could be this strong indepented not cinderellla type girl who dont need no man, well eep does need a man cause we learn she gets a crush when she first learns guy is a real person
Sorry this is a long comment but these are just some things I can think of right now that always made me feel weird or annoyed/bothered me
@@CharredinCharlie the first 2 points are portrayed to be flawed, so the film is showing them up not accepting them

LITERALLYYYYYYY
@@megadoodoo6511I feel the Torpe of the girl hating other girls being around her is yandere-like behavior
I like how Guy in the first movie isn't shamed for being much physically weaker and not a fighter. Instead he uses his smarts to help the others and in most cases that ends up being the solution to the situation instead of using brut force. Its refreshing to see a physically strong girl with a weak but very smart guy who both have their advantages and disadvantages.
its so nice to see that guy isnt stupid either. normally male characters who are weaker than their female partner will always be the silly goofball that does a ton of mistakes and the female partner has to solve them or save the male partner. im glad thats not really the case here
You mean Suki and Sokka from Avatar The Last Airbender???
I also love how eep still thinks and does normal teenage girl things, and is not a “I’m noT likE othEr giRls”. She’s just her own person, she’s, eep
YESSS, THISSSS, WOMEN CAN BE PHYSICALLY MASCULINE *AND* FEMININE (I have nothing wrong with masculine women or tomboys, but this trope can be so overused to the point of no return and very few pieces of media do it correctly)
@@S0m3B0z0OnTheInternet as a tomboy i can confirm that media part

It would’ve been such a cliche! I kept expecting Dawn and Eep to turn on each other but they never did 😌

Wait does this mean that they pass the test thing
The one where two female characters can go without talking about a boy for like 5 minutes?

Exactly! That's what I was so scared about
Yeah, At the beginning scene you can see the bettermans looking at Guy and the girl(I haven’t watched the movie). Did they try to get guy with her but she stayed a good friend with eep?
I fucking love it. I hate the portrayal of girls “being catty” and not getting along or always being competitive in the media. Like no, girls get along we are not like that. We are not “overdramatic”. And yeah, since girls are pretty much half of the population, no, we don’t ALL stick together, but we don’t all just hate each other either.

i was genuinely so happy that dawn and eep were friends and they didn’t go for that two girls fighting over a guy thing
“Did you hit him”
“No I thought about it”
That was actually pretty funny
The ending when Eep said we were moving out and grug cried EVEN tho it was right beside their house just made the movie 10x better-
FR
I’m glad they didn’t fall into the “couple established in first movie becomes almost torn apart by jealousy from new character” trope a lot of sequels love to do
Same! I like prefer when they develope the caracters more or if they go trough something at least give them time to solve it instead of dragging it out qnd solving it rushing-ly at the end
I love how the Better Mom in the second movie was a mirror image of Grug from the first movie. She was the most upset about "new" things and even said that she didn't like the Crood Family giving her daughter "ideas" about leaving the safety of the walls. Guy was the one giving Eep new ideas and now Eep is the one giving new ideas to Dawn.
Best part about the breaking of stereotypes is that it's very clearly not pandering. All of the women are still feminine in their own ways and all of the men are still masculine in their own ways. They're all different people that are unapologeticly themselves. It really feels like a time before society before gender roles and stereotypes ever emerged.
Right?! I totally agree.
I think the first movie also helps since the main crew, prior to the Bettermans, had their personalities established. No one went through a shift in personalities going into the second, everyone behaved pretty in character and the cast just bounced off of what the Bettermans were like.
It is before society🫥
I really like how everyone acts normally, cuz most times when a female character is boyish or strong they constantly need to reafirm "she is strong and not like other girls" also when a male character need help and they reafirm "he is weak and need to be strong" everyone is just who they are, and its fine.
Croods were literally one of my favorite movies growing up! So glad the sequel did justice to all the things that made the first one so good! Eep’s parents are also one of the more healthy couples I have seen in the media.
4:25 I love how they also made it more of an emotional damage fight than a fist fight.
Honestly, I’m just happy Grug doesn’t go down the route of “selfish, cruel/abusive, or idiotic father” character that a lot of movies and shows like to portray dads.
He’s cautious around anything new and stubborn, as he should be in a hostile world, because he puts his family first. That’s what a good dad is.
Actually I think DreamWorks does it with most of their parents

It’s in my nature to punch trees, bc I am gorilla
This is as primal as it gets dude.
What I meant by this was I find it annoying when people say that gender roles are "in our nature" and that going against it is "unnatural." This video shows the complete opposite of that, kind of like an "in your face" kind of thing to people who try to enforce gender roles
@@berrykoo812 gender roles being natural is really ignoring the fact that humans are less natural than you’d think, I really doubt men evolved specifically to work in an office.

Eep and Guy are honestly couple goals for me
They cute af, I like the way they portray them
Yessss🧡🧡🧡🧡
I like how they showed that there is a difference between boys and girls, but its not courage or the need for adventure. THey still showed the compassionate side of women and how strong they are in that regard while also showing physical strength.I also liked how they didn't make the men weak or needy. They didn't need to tear men down to raise women up or visversa, they showed the beauty of both genders equally and truly
Showed a lovely variety of realistic and flawed characters.
Totally agree with this comment! I hate it when movies make men stupid (Ghostbusters with the women) so that women could look stronger or better
Equality
"You know, Amy, anytime someone calls attention to the breaking of gender roles, it ultimately undermines the concept of gender equality by implying that this is an exception and not the status quo"
Guy's It's a Sonic Boom Reference
Okay?
But you acknowledge that there is a status quo. And sadly the status quo is not gender equality especially for movies that tend to use gender cliches for cheap jokes. Better to praise the the exception and encourage others to do the same than to pretend it’s the status quo.
dawg what
Sonic Boom reference!
@@msmilan_19 this was not gender equality either tho just role reversal, what would have been equality would be portraying both men and women as strong and vulnerable at times
I heard that in shadows voice when I read it 😂
This whole ‘franchise” helped me become the girl boss I am today 🤧
Slay, queen!
Nothing to be proud about that. Just be normal kind well mannered people. Both men and woman should be kind and gentle to each other. Only be aggressive and angry to people when it is needed. You are only hurting yourself if you try to act tough around people/partner. Look men don't want such woman who try to be tough even though they are weak and nor do woman want weak men or aggressive men. Just be normal good people. Naturally women want men who are stronger and taller which make the man more dominant in a relationship and normal woman have no problem with it unless the man abuse his power instead of being a gentle strong person who can control his emotions. A abusive person will always be abusive wheather you try to act tough or not.
@fayizat8930 "Just be normal, kind, well mannered people." "Women like very masculine men."
Ummmm....Which one is it then? Because you just simultaneously said something that made sense (be kind, polite, etc) and something that just completely reinforced stereotypes ("all women want alpha males"). Not every woman is the same, just like not every man is the same; some women prefer "weak men" and some men enjoy "girlboss" women.
Anyway, this is a funny video about a Cartoon film, and if that bothers you so much, why not just... Oh I don't know... go outside and touch some grass?

I really appreciate both the first movie and the second movie having more female than male characters (even if in the first one it was just by 1), yet never being marketed as "girl movies". It's annoyingly rare.
And I was literally so happy when there wasn't a weird love trianlg in the 2nd one. I was so sure that they'd do it as soon as dawn was introduced. Because that's what always happens.
4:48 I was a combination of Eep and Dawn right here

I forgot Nick cage voiced in it idk why thats so funny to me
I've always unapologetically loved the Croods, and I'm glad to see the movies are getting good attention like this. In this movie, the part where the dads fight and realize that words can be used as weapons, they hurt just as much as fists, that was such an effective way to explain the effect and importance of words to kids. Like it couldn't be made more obvious, and I think that also adds a lot of value to an animated movie, when they can teach little kiddies lessons like these, and make bigger kids cry over daddy issues 😂😂

"All the men being damsels"
Meanwhile, Thug: is obsessed with a square and turns philosophical after
tbh, i think this is real life truth. when men said they think rationally while women think with emotion, in reality women are usually the more resourceful and practical with the mundane home lives, whereas men has too many "honor" or "norms" that makes them super complicated. I think we really are live in a world crafted by men.

I must admit that I have some mixed feelings about this movie as a sequel (the continuity errors is a huge pet peeve of mine) but this video has definitely made me see it in a new light. What I really find fascinating is that the lack of gender-norms is so naturally incorporated into the story that I for one didn’t actually think about it until you pointed it out.
