Please turn this into a series! It would also be cool if you guys would consider doing a monthly series on underrated/hidden gem indie games since the scene has absolutely exploded bringing some awesome new game mechanics.with such a massive platform it would really help with exposure too
The game that takes my number 1 spot is Mad Max. I've always wanted to play it ever since it's release but finally got it 5 years after it and I loved every second of it. Though, I feel bad that I couldn't buy it day one so at least I could've helped the sales just a small, little, tiny bit.
Installing Mad Max while watching this. Hoped it would be listed honestly. This game is a gem! Multiple playthroughs and I still come back to it every now and then. New tradition of mine is to put on old school hard rock/metal while playing and god it feels even more badass, roaming that V8 in the Wasteland with some Judas Priest rushing through the veins, it simply fits!
Prey 2017 is genuinely one of my favorite games of all time, people always talk about dishonored but the story, the station, and characters were so well written and genuinely an immersive experience, I play it like once a year and always have a blast
I also have an annual playthrough of Prey (the whole Dishonored series too). These are some of the most imaginative, well designed, fun, exploratory games I’ve ever played. This level of quality game design is rare and wish that it was a) a standard that more game developers aimed to achieve and… b) that more gamers sought out these types of games to increase the chances of them being made.
Great game. Such a shame it underperformed. All thanks to Bethesda's decision to force the developers to adopt the Prey title. The game director (Raphaël Colantonio) was furious for this. Years in the making, and had to be released that bears the name that had absolutely nothing with another good game (2006 game from Human Head Studios). After this game's launch, 70% of Arkane Studios staff had it enough (resigned, quit)💢❌
I can honestly say being subscribed to this channel I have come across some games that was pretty good that I would’ve never found or heard of on my own and those games have left a huge impression on me! Thank you guys for doing what y’all do!
I would love more videos like this on the channel. It’s nice to see more “underdog” type games get shout outs from bigger TH-cam channels like Gameranx because it gets more of people’s attention. That being said if there’s more to this series I’d love a shoutout to T’chia. It was a really relaxing and beautiful game with a focus on exploring the world naturally instead of just through objectives and that was as such a breath of fresh air. I may be biased since it’s a game centered around the Pacific Islands and as a pacific islander it meant a lot to me to see some broader representation but I had a great time grinding the platinum trophy for it. 😊
The Riddick games, "Escape from Butcher Bay" and "Assault on Dark Athena," are hidden gems. These games offer a unique first-person shooter experience accompanied by engaging storylines and still hold up pretty well. I thoroughly enjoyed these titles for their distinctive gameplay and compelling narratives.
I feel like Vampyr isn't spoken of nearly enough. That game truly understood the vampire power fantasy.. the feeling you got when taking an npc to feed on was just perfect. Not knowing what the consequences would be, but just wanting that blood and power... sooo coool
I played Vampyr for quite a long time. They could have made some changes to the mechanics for the better, but I didn't do an evil playthrough, and since I went the good route (never fed on anyone that wasn't a random enemy), I leveled slowly just fighting the respawning enemies repeatedly.
Immortals Fenyx Rising was amazing… My wife and I both played it, she got like 98% of the trophies. Great fighting and puzzles along with The lighthearted greek mythology and loves how the greek gods would argue like two old men watching a baseball game.
I love during the fake credits sequence after Fenyx first enters the underworld, one of the things mentioned for Prometheus is Eagle Feeder, referencing his punishment in Greek mythology.
Kena, Immortals, A Way Out, and Quantum Break are exceptional games, and I enjoyed them really much. Great stories in very different genres, and with good game mechanics.
A way out was a rollercoaster. I was lucky enough to play it with my wife, so the end of the game during the 1v1 section I absolutely destroyed her while she screamed for help
Yea Ghost Recon Breakpoint went on sale last year for like 17 bucks with all the expansions and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The map is absolutely gigantic and the three chapters are super long and enjoyable! One thing I like that they did was diversify the missions so you’re not just going to this place, killing this guy, delivering this thing. They made most missions completely different from one another.
If you haven't played Wildlands I highly recommend. Cooler more diverse map, Cooler enemies, Better story in my opinion. Not even discounting breakpoint cause I enjoyed that too
I'm so happy to see Call of Juarez: Gunslinger get mentioned. That really was an excellent Wild West FPS that deserves at worst a sequel, and at best a whole franchise itself, away from the regular Call of Juarez brand. Really really fun game there.
Been playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits on PS5 recently, and I've gotta say it really is good! Like you said, the art direction is *gorgeous* and the world design makes everything feel like it should be there. Combat is fun, and there are secrets everywhere. Definitely worth a look if you skipped it.
Yeah mate I finished it a week ago and was really impressed. I never heard of it so I didn't know what to expect but hot damn it was good. It's got a nice soundtrack as well. Especially those drums that come in whenever you're in a battle 😂👏
I think it’s a beautiful game but I found myself forcing myself to play it after a few..It didn’t make me wanna play and finish it but I did just so I didn’t waste my time or money…
Glad to see "A way out" on this list. I played this with my best friend after we finished "It takes two" and it deserves more recognition! It's can be goofy, serious, fun, and tragic, and really is something unique.
Fenyx is a goddamn open-world masterpiece. People were griping pretty hard about the humor, but Prometheus and Zeus bickering and quipping is the highlight for me, never mind certain other roles in the game. It's not perfect, but almost every tedious aspect of games like BotW have been turned into fun traversal, combat, and even puzzles (subject to subjectivity). The world looks gorgeous with all the little biomes and many secrets and what not, the climbing mechanics are really, really great, even for a Ubi game... people seriously slept on it, although it was pretty well-received. If you can go at it without preconceptions and like something in the vein of these games, and if you aren't a stick in the mud about having humorous, Greek mythology-related dialog, this might become one of your favorite games. Combat is super fun too, great power creep.
@@minhuang8848The whole story framing and the humor was just about my favorite part of the game. I thought it was such a breath of fresh air, and as the video pointed out, it was such a video game-y game. It was just fun, not trying to be too serious or be a simulator, just trying to show people a good time at the end of a long day.
I never even played the game but even I was pretty bummed the sequel got scrapped. It seemed like a “lightning in a bottle” game for Ubisoft and that’s hard for them these days imo.
I'm an older gamer and these days it takes something pretty special to get me to give my free time to them, Fenyx: Immortals Rising is one of them though. I played that game through to the end and tried to complete as much of it as I could. It's funny, entertaining, challenging, extremely playable in terms of combat and world traversal. I highly recommend it.
It such a great game. I was hooked and I remember playing it the morning my son was born back in 2021. But after rushing to the hospital and the busy weeks after I never really gotten into it anymore. I should play it again
7 days to die was a game I heard so much about back in like 2014-2015 and at the time it was such a mess but since then it's managed to become the quintessential zombie survival game in my group of friends, I just wish it'd come out of Alpha after nearly 10 years
I have a decent record of hours played with 7DTD, I love it, but yes, it needs to get out of Alpha. With the updated unreal engine, there are other zombie games in early access that are essentially copying the 7DTD formula but with waaay better graphics. If they don't figure out on how to get out from Alpha soon, some other developer will simply take their winning formula and run away with it, and 7DTD will just be remembered as another game that the devs went too greedy with.
7 Days To Die was one of my favorite games for years, but I can't in good conscious recommend anyone play it anymore with the developers incredible lack of direction and overall disdain for their community. They've improved the game in a lot of really great ways over the years, the design of interiors is incredible and the game looks nothing like what is shown in this video anymore. But they constantly redesign major mechanics of the game, remove features and can't decide on what they want their game to be. When I first started playing, a lot of people were complaining that they changed player progression from "Learn by Doing" to Perk-Based Leveling. As much as I would have preferred the former, I had no frame of reference, so it wasn't a huge deal for me at the time. But now they've completely changed it yet again to this weird "Learn By Finding Magazines In Loot" system that is entirely reliant on RNG and totally unbalanced. So even if you enjoy what the game is at the start, they will most certainly gut it into something you don't want down the line. They have gone on record saying "They don't understand why they need to finish the game" and "We only listen to feedback that praises us and supports our decisions", while actively berating anyone who has issues with their decisions on their forums, all while they still refuse to fix major game-breaking issues that have plagued the game for years. It's a real shame because 7 Days To Die was probably close to one of my dream games before it started down the path of just another generic zombie shooter.
Thanks for this! Back in the late 90's (or early 2000s) a game called Giants Citizen Kabuto came out. It had single and multiplayer. 3 factions that were very different from each other, as well as any other game. It just wasn't marketed and didn't get the love I think it deserved. My buddies and I played the heck out of it and to this day miss it and hope for a reboot for modern machines! If you ever do a video on "Oldies but goodies" or "Blast from the past" or "Remember these games?" or "Best unknown games of the 90s", I hope you give this one some love so more people hear of it and the chances are increased that it gets revived!
Mirror's Edge left an impact which CANNOT be overstated even though the IP itself died. So many games to this day still use its motion mechanics. Amazing game and sequel.
@@Boss_Fight_Index_muki That's a good thing for me. As I have less time to really put into long games I've really started enjoying titles that are fun and short (like my ex).
Yeah, I gotta agree that Alien: Isolation is one of the best survival horror games I've ever played. The AI is of the alien is scary smart and often feels like another player is controlling it. The resource distribution is PERFECT. I'm not kidding. I ended the game on hard mode with 1 pistol bullet, and zero leftover aid items. Also, It can be a pleasant easy romp or a legitimate struggle to survive, depending your selected difficulty. I am a big fan of the Alien franchise... So I did not expect to be scared or stressed... But holy crap, this game had me jumping and sweating all over my controller. Lol. Trust me. If you like any combination of: > The ALIENS Franchise > horror > resource management > Survival gameplay > Legit difficulty (Hard or Nightmare) > Or Strategic combat scenarios Then you will love this game. I just hope we get a sequel one day, because this game is a masterpiece.
If you ever wanted to get into Dark Souls likes but always found them too hard, Thymesia is one that didn't get much press but is quite good and more accessible than it's peers
@@Scuuurbs Only thing I didn't like was the tendency of trash mobs to chip away at your health and limited healing count - clearing trash really isn't hard but unless you play absolutely perfectly at all times each one drains a little more. I found it perfect to just cheat and lock the potion count so I didn't have to be perfect in combat every time and could be a little more casual while clearing.
A way out is chronically underrated tbh. It's an emotional rollercoaster, especially with how the games forces you to attach yourself to the characters' personal lives and their pasts - but more than anything, a heart-wrenching ending. Don't wanna spoil it for anyone who's interested though, it a must duo co-op experience
3:16 Blame it on the Devs/Publishers to sell exclusively on Epic Games... why was it an exclusive in the first place? Most players have their library on Steam.
I always felt Quantum Break was highly under-rated. I absolutely loved that game. My only gripe was having to re-watch the cutscene for the end boss about 100 times, because I felt he was just insanely hard to beat. Other than that, great, great game.
Ghost Recon Wildlands didn't get enough love. It wasn't the most unique game, but coop was great and the open world stealth shooter stuff worked really well in that world. It may have been a little heavy on the generic Ubisoft open world repeating busywork, but if you liked the gameplay loop it's definitely worth checking out
One of the funnest mil sim games I've played to date. I think it's strongest point is how it handles menus and game flow because it doesn't bog it down and instead exhances the experience unlike in many other games.
@@eternalbeing3339 Average? Breakpoint is average. Wildlands is actually good because they went to Bolivia to make it and it's simpler to play. Yes it has all the Ubisoft tropes but it owns it and does it well.
half the npcs are missing mission dialogue audio but the story was kinda ahead of its time warning about the danger of post-nation-state 'Sovereigns' [Thiel types who want to return to tech powered feudalism] The world environment is cool. The bullet spongy combat gets old tho. So does the terrible wooden vehicle handling.
I really wanted to like Astral Chain. It had a good aesthetic, and I found the normal battles to be pretty fun. Then I got to the first boss, and found lining things up so you could make it run into your stretched-out chain nearly impossible, and the few times I did manage to do it I wasn't able to get very much damage in before the boss recovered. I realized that even if I got perfect at the chain thing, it'd still take forever to whittle down the boss's overly large amount of HP. Not worth the hassle.
Quantum Break is the perfect #1 for this list. The game is amazing, the story is terrific, gameplay is great, really top quality & no one played it bc it was an Xbox One exclusive. Could go either way on the live action stuff but it didn't hurt the experience IMO. Anyone that's ever enjoyed a Remedy game or just likes action adventure games should play it! 👌
Star Wars Squadrons is one of the best and most badass experiences I've ever had in VR the gameplay and immersion is insane! It's a crime that this game doesn't get more attention
I have so much nostalgia for Quantum Break! I loved the time manipulation mechanics and appreciated how incredible the graphics were. When this released, I was like 14 and my mom gifted me the Quantum Break edition of the Xbox One and still have it to this day! So glad this made it to the 1 spot :)
@@miliyn17 Correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand, the broken version is the one that uses Dx12 on the Microsoft Store/Game Pass, but the Steam version allows you to change to Dx11 which is apparently fully functional
They really dropped the ball with the PC port though, I hate that it's a full price game for essentially being as long as a CoD campaign without the multiplayer, while also being limited to 720p upscaled.
7 days to die is one of the main games that got me wanting a pc and i have loved it. its one of my favorite survival games. imortals feynix rising was such a good game when it came out and ghost recon breakpoint is so much fun now and a game i see my self go back to time and time again. glad you mentioned those
@Gameranx : That would be a cool thing if you did a video about "old games that people should reinstall in 2023" (like Half-Life, Soldier of Fortune, Abe's Odyssey, and many others) 🥰 BTW, love your work, guys 🥰
Started playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint after they had updated it based on the community feedback and watching YT videos of people play with no HUD and extreme settings. It made for some fun and intense gameplay that I really enjoyed. Definitely benefited by the player imposing your own rules to get the most out of it.
It's my prime example of a redemption story. Ubisoft tried something new (good for them) but it didn't work. And instead of ditching the game they took the feedback and made it a genuinely good game. There's lots of bad things to say about Ubisoft but I think how they handled Breakpoint is commendable
A Way Out was the first mature game I played with my son when he was old enough. Man, what a ride!! That ending was gut wrenching! Neither of us wanted to do what needed to be done. We still often talk about that. What a great memory I had with my son!
Immortals fenyx rising was actually really fun and kept my attention for months which most games like that absolutely don't. It got repetitive at parts (all the dungeon purple sky areas were super similar) but the overworked area was super cool and I had tons of fun playing it.
Soooo happy to see Kena on this list. Loved playing it when it came out and actually got stuck on a boss and just ended up not finishing the game. I've been thinking about jumping back into it because man does it not only look great , but it pulls on your heartstrings as well.
I had never heard of Squadrons before this. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter was one of my absolute favorite early games and playing it with a joystick was just a thrill. I would love to play that game with today's graphics but I don't have a joystick. Flight games just aren't very fun with keyboard and mouse and my old hands can't handle a controller anymore. And joysticks on their own are expensive nowadays. Plus it seems like a lot of newer games don't support the cheaper joysticks.
That game supports lots and lots of HOTAS. You can get a Thrustmaster for about as much as a regular controller(of today's prices) so it may be worth it since it's probably going to be a while before there's another Star Wars spacefighter game.
No, Star Wars Squadrons was not what we were waiting for. It was very close, but the mixed-ship five person squadon and dumb bullet sponge enemies paled in camparison to the much better executed 12-ship multi squadron original games.
I adore Call of Juarez Gunslinger! It has a really wonderful story that is quite deep and affecting in the end. #1, though, has to be Kingdoms of Amalur.
Immortals and Kena were my two most anticipated games when the trailers dropped. Loved both. Kena was very underrated. Immortals had too many puzzles for my liking but everything else in the game was a masterpiece imo.
7 Days to Die has a rather solid fanbase to it and gets decent player numbers. The largest issue folks might run into is going at it solo. You can play it solo, but it is far more entertaining with friends. You also wont run into as many stumbling blocks with friends unless you crank up the spawn rate on Bloodmoon Nights. Spawn rate on that is PER PERSON actively in the world at the start of a Bloodmoon so just be aware of that. Once you get a solid foundation in the base game, there are mod packs to make it...more intense. So you can get a solid several hundred hours out of the game as long as you enjoy it and definitely play with friends, it makes it all the better.
I wonder why they're showing such an old version of the game tho. They should have shown an evolution of the game as it now gives a distorted view of the game
I love and still freaking love Immortals Fenix Rising. I got it on switch for Christmas that December it came out. We were still in the midst of the pandemic so I found myself getting after it allegedly while I was still on the clock working from home. Lol. Definitely brought joy and good memories during a rough time
Since Styx came out, I still can't stop replaying both of them. The last decent actually stealth Splinter Cell was Blacklist and since then Styx is scratching that stealth itch for me even more. There really are not enough decent stealth games on the market nowadays and Styx hits the spot in my opinion.
Plague tale requiem belongs on this list. That game got overshadowed by god of war and elden ring but to me it had one of the most heart-wrenching endings ive seen in any media.
It's really awesome and surprising to see you guys mention 7 Days to Die! I've been a huge fan of this one since I was first getting into it about 6 or 7 years ago. It certainly has some jank to it in some ways, but it has a pretty solid cult following out there who all really love this game. LOL And I've never seen or heard about it ANYWHERE mainstream until now. Good job!
Quantum Break is criminally underrated. So glad it made the list. I loved the live action sequences too as it gave me a nice break from all the action.
Thanks for the video Jake! Kena is definitely on my list. Probably the only one I'll play. Currently playing Cat Quest 2, as I wanted something light and fun. (and those puns though.. :P)
These all look good and the only one i have heard of was astral chain! Great video, we need more like this to shed light on games that get over shadowed by the AAA space!
Immortals Feynyx Rising is a great game. I stopped playing after a puzzle. I couldn't solve it after a while, but I hopped back in and did something else. The lore is oddly true to actual Greek mythology, too. Some of the darker stuff they just whisper it.
A Way Out was one of the best gaming experiences I've had w/ a buddy. We played it in one sitting and were dying laughing the whole time. The conversation options in the hospital with npcs are so funny.
Random order, worth mentions: 0 - Sayuki's Journey to the West (PS1) 1 - Folklore (PS3) 2 - Eternal Sonata (X360/PS3) 3 - Enchanted Arms (X360/PS3) 4 - Legend of Dragoon (PS1) 5 - Heroes of Might and Magic series (PC) 6 - Quest For Glory series (PC) 7 - Ultima series (PC) 8 - Breath of Fire series (PS1) 9 - Grandia series (PS1/DC) All forgotten or overlooked games, today or in their time (SJTTW, folklore and eternal sonata especially). They REALLY need to be mentioned more often in conversations.
Let's be honest, the real reason Kena's momentum was kneecapped: the Window release was exclusive to Epic Games Store 🤮 for a full year. That's it. Whether it came down to greed or mismanagement, not having a Steam release at launch hurt this game bad.
@@sloppyfroppy9292I do, kind of. I don't buy games on it but I use it to collect free games. Lol. Still haven't spent a dollar on it but my Epic library has some decent titles in it.
I’m playing kena bridge of spirits again since it’s release they updated it with outfits & trials which it didn’t have before, but it is an amazing game the atmosphere music gameplay itself is all really good even the boss fights are dope challenging but beatable I recommend anyone to give it a try! 👍🏽
7:50 After having played It takes two, I'll definitely check out A Way Out! Hazelight really know how to do good "couch" co-up games, they are not so many out there. I can recommend the "We were here" serie if you're looking for remote co-up, but it's IMO not as deep in the bound between the two characters.
I think the problem with immortals was on the surface it looked too much like botw in a time where everyone was trying to make their games look like botw and the industry was over saturated with games with that style
Quantum Break is one of my all time favorite games.... The graphics especially for when it came out are impressive too, I believe the 3090 was the first GPU that could even run it at 4k native max settings 60fps.... It might have been 3080 or 3080ti actually
I thought this would be a list of games that were better early on in their lifecycle, but got progressively worse. 😅 Good list idea maybe? Overwatch 1, Diablo 4, and GTA Online come to mind. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch.
Thank you gameranx for shouting out 7 Days to Die. When that first came out on console I was so freaking pumped for it, but then they just stopped... then I started watching other youtubers play the updated version and that's when I was "OK that's it I'm getting a pc" it's so much better now and they are still working on it. Granted still in alpha but I still love popping on ever couple of months to see what's new. Thanx gameranx
My addition to this list is definitely Scarlet Nexus. I loved the anime artstyle which you rarely see in bigger games and the combos in fights are just spot on. Feels so satisfying when you get it perfect. Another game might be Stray. It is talked about every now and then but I feel not enough for how well designed this game is.
I think Scarlet Nexus really doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's such a great game too. I went into it just for a change of pace and before I knew it, it was the only game I kept for a week straight till I 100% the whole thing😆!
I really wanna support Immortals: Fenyx Rising here, I'm always glad to see that game mentioned. You really got the point, it borrows from other games A LOT and it being a Ubisoft game and Ubisoft not having the best reputation, a lot of people probably ditched it for no real reason. It's incredibly fun though. The main quests are great, the side quests are just different enough to entertain me for a long time and most importantly, this game is incredibly lighthearted. On evenings when almost every game feels too dark or too complicated or too unnerving, this game is the answer. It never let me down. Also, I am now at 135 hours of Ghost Recon Breakpoint in co-op only. I can't point out enough how great it is that this game (nowadays) has two ways to play it, as a loot shooter and as a more classical shooter. So while my friend enjoys colleting level 174 rubber gloves that for some reason protect him more than the titanium ones he had before, I have been sticking to the same four guns for the last 50 hours and just love it. You can also have different difficulty settings, too, so I like a little challenge while for him, this is one of the first video games he plays so he has faster health regeneration etc.
I think that Ghostrunner really doesn't get the attention it deserves. People kind of forgot about it after its release. The cyberpunk world, the story, and the unique 'one-hit' fight mechanics and the awesome soundtrack makes it a superb game. I hope the sequel will put both games into the limelight. As usual, you guys have done an awesome job and put up another great video. Loved it.
Ghost Recon : Breakpoint was a really fun game imo. Me & 2 of my friends really had a blast playing co-op clearing out outposts & the campaign. The only thing i hate was that i had to pay extra money to play further into the campaign missions 😢
As someone that grew up on the OG Ghost Recon games and played a part of me going into the Army, I can say after the Army, the current iterations are amazing. Yeah, they have some issues, but it's the closest I've been to being deployed again.
I really liked Immortals Fenyx Rising. One thing it had over other Ubisoft games that doesn't get mentioned much was difficulty, some of the bosses and puzzles were hard as nails! And you couldn't grind your way out of them either, so it had the "get good" aspect to it.
ooh I love that game! the humor is so subtle but hilarious when the Greek pantheon have beef with each other, plus the customization for your character is pretty fun to change up at any time! it can get a bit repetitive but when I'm flying or solving a complex puzzle I forget the small flaws of it and just have fun!
Fenyx Rising is the best thing Ubisoft has done in years. Genuinely, the best thing they have produced in terms of quality, presentation, originality, pacing, fun factor, ESPECIALLY compared to the other games they have released in the last decade. It's like night and day, yet they chose to double down on mass producing AC related things and ignore this gem.
Always makes me happy when someone mentions Kena or Fenyx. I heard about both games from this channel, played em, and wasn't disappointed. They were great games, not perfect, but fun.
Please turn this into a series! It would also be cool if you guys would consider doing a monthly series on underrated/hidden gem indie games since the scene has absolutely exploded bringing some awesome new game mechanics.with such a massive platform it would really help with exposure too

the fact that you feel guilty for not buying it day one because of not helping the company with sales is sad af lol. Everything will be okay bro

I liked the game but it did need some tweeking.
Vampyr was a great game.. Great story.. Just the control and movement was so janky and slow for a modern day game..
The fact that the endgame boss got stronger the more you leveled up pissed me off
All too true, plus the endings I felt all worked and could lead to a sequel or even prequel, definitely a great game experience.
I loved the game, but it needed to make 50% of the puzzles optional only. Some take so long and there’s so many that it ruins the fun and immersion
I played some of it but got busy with other games, I want to get back to playing it though
Kena, Immortals, A Way Out, and Quantum Break are exceptional games, and I enjoyed them really much. Great stories in very different genres, and with good game mechanics.
👍🏼
A way out was a rollercoaster. I was lucky enough to play it with my wife, so the end of the game during the 1v1 section I absolutely destroyed her while she screamed for help
@@TheRealBrandonMcDuffnaturally.
A lot of games in the sunset of PS3 were overlooked! Prototype 2, Enslaved Odyssey to the West etc!
Using Kena as a comparison, i really enjoyed asterigos, it was super fun and i ended up playing it to the end because it was engaging.
A sequel just wouldnt work, the story and narrative is something else in this game. Probably the best example of gameplay and narrative harmony.
That's the zombie game in the wild west?
This game was so much fun
@@ChristmasLore Nah that's the DLC for the first Red Dead Redemption called Undead Nightmare.
You guys should definitely make a part 2 of this. There's a lot of hidden gems that deserve attention.
I freaking hated kena and getting hats
I think it’s a beautiful game but I found myself forcing myself to play it after a few..It didn’t make me wanna play and finish it but I did just so I didn’t waste my time or money…
Loved the game, beautiful visuals, good exploration, challenging boss fights and memorable music. Absolutely worth it.
Game was legit harder than ER at times.
Vanquish is one of THE BEST GAMES I've ever played, very underrated and I wish more people would play it.
Armored Core 6 really reminded me of Vanquish, minus humor and escort missions
so glad you mentioned Astral Chain, such an underrated game.

Glad to see "A way out" on this list. I played this with my best friend after we finished "It takes two" and it deserves more recognition! It's can be goofy, serious, fun, and tragic, and really is something unique.
the actual gameplay is sloppy and quick time events mostly though, not great
@@elfismykitten yeah, it was extremely unsatisfying to play
Immortals Fenyx Rising was one of my favorites. I'm sooooooo bummed that the sequel got cancelled, it could have been so great.
Are you kidding I just started playing that. And it is quite good.
Nevermind got to that part.
I never even played the game but even I was pretty bummed the sequel got scrapped. It seemed like a “lightning in a bottle” game for Ubisoft and that’s hard for them these days imo.
I bought it on my xbox when it came out. Loved it , still mad that the sequel got canned.
I love that game! Finished it this year!
It had a very charming sense of humor
7 days to die was a game I heard so much about back in like 2014-2015 and at the time it was such a mess but since then it's managed to become the quintessential zombie survival game in my group of friends, I just wish it'd come out of Alpha after nearly 10 years
at least there still updating it,i don't really mind it still being in alpha
@@MythicAce218consoles haven't seen an update in five years, but at least you got yours, I guess
@@MythicAce218unplayable on console
Always wanted to play that game.
@@Gatorade69 You can finish it in 1 sitting, about 6hrs for the campaign.

Lol.
Trust me. If you like any combination of:
> The ALIENS Franchise
> horror
> resource management
> Survival gameplay
> Legit difficulty (Hard or Nightmare)
> Or Strategic combat scenarios
Then you will love this game.
I just hope we get a sequel one day, because this game is a masterpiece.
If you ever wanted to get into Dark Souls likes but always found them too hard, Thymesia is one that didn't get much press but is quite good and more accessible than it's peers
Just got it the other day. I love it!
Ooh thanks for reminding me. I added it to my wishlist but every time it goes on sale I’ve been deep into another game and put it off
@@Scuuurbs Only thing I didn't like was the tendency of trash mobs to chip away at your health and limited healing count - clearing trash really isn't hard but unless you play absolutely perfectly at all times each one drains a little more. I found it perfect to just cheat and lock the potion count so I didn't have to be perfect in combat every time and could be a little more casual while clearing.
I just binged through Kena. I had a lot of fun with it. The story is fantastic and yeah, some really hard boss battles for sure.
Kena has been on my periphery for a while now - this vid was the reminder and push I needed!
Glad we could help
I waited for it to be on Steam, and now that it is, there's too many other games.
It’s reeeeally good! I remember watching the PS5 showcase thing in like 2020 and it was the one I was the most excited for lol

It's literally my ritual to put it on when I'm leaving work lol
I wake up like an hour early before work everyday so I can watch my gameranx lol 😅
A lot of games in the sunset of PS3 were overlooked! Prototype 2, Enslaved Odyssey to the West etc!
No that game was average in everyway. Nothing unique about it. Full of ubisoft bloat.
@@eternalbeing3339 Average? Breakpoint is average. Wildlands is actually good because they went to Bolivia to make it and it's simpler to play. Yes it has all the Ubisoft tropes but it owns it and does it well.
@@TheFirstRoyale Breakpoint at launch sucked. Now it's better than Wildlands in almost every objective way
half the npcs are missing mission dialogue audio but the story was kinda ahead of its time warning about the danger of post-nation-state 'Sovereigns' [Thiel types who want to return to tech powered feudalism] The world environment is cool.

Sucks that it’s completely broken on PC

@Gameranx : That would be a cool thing if you did a video about "old games that people should reinstall in 2023" (like Half-Life, Soldier of Fortune, Abe's Odyssey, and many others) 🥰
BTW, love your work, guys 🥰
Started playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint after they had updated it based on the community feedback and watching YT videos of people play with no HUD and extreme settings. It made for some fun and intense gameplay that I really enjoyed. Definitely benefited by the player imposing your own rules to get the most out of it.
It's my prime example of a redemption story. Ubisoft tried something new (good for them) but it didn't work. And instead of ditching the game they took the feedback and made it a genuinely good game. There's lots of bad things to say about Ubisoft but I think how they handled Breakpoint is commendable
2:53 i loved break point since it came out never played any of em before wildlands but i really mess wit the newer games 🔥
Alien Isolation is amazing!
Just played it a month ago
I'm really loving your channel right now, been watching newer and older lists everyday. Thanks friends :)
A Way Out was the first mature game I played with my son when he was old enough. Man, what a ride!! That ending was gut wrenching! Neither of us wanted to do what needed to be done. We still often talk about that. What a great memory I had with my son!
Must've played a different game, because I cant rate A Way out barely as average. The story is predictable as hell, the dialogue is simplistic.
Love that 7 days to die gets recognition just wish the console version actually got updates
I can say it does support the HOTAS. I will say for some reason I find it hard to get into. I need to give it another go.
Dood squadrons in VR is life changing. I was like dam. I don't own a flightstick but I can only imagine how nuts that + VR could be.

@@overlordmateus407 that was my question. It looks like they used the old console version for the gameplay capture.
That’s what I thought of too
7d2d is one of my all time favorites. Definitely play it. If you're on PC, it's updated and looks much nicer than the clips shown.
I love and still freaking love Immortals Fenix Rising. I got it on switch for Christmas that December it came out. Definitely brought joy and good memories during a rough time
Can't express how much i love CoJ:Gunslinger! Kudos to you for including it!
Since Styx came out, I still can't stop replaying both of them. The last decent actually stealth Splinter Cell was Blacklist and since then Styx is scratching that stealth itch for me even more. There really are not enough decent stealth games on the market nowadays and Styx hits the spot in my opinion.
I'm so glad you mentioned Lena: Bridge of Spirits. So massively underrated
Shadow of War definitely fits the mold in my opinion, after the microtransactions were dumped, it became a fun game with a few cool online elements.
Good job!

Immortals Feynyx Rising is a great game. I stopped playing after a puzzle. I couldn't solve it after a while, but I hopped back in and did something else. The lore is oddly true to actual Greek mythology, too. Some of the darker stuff they just whisper it.

Let's be honest, the real reason Kena's momentum was kneecapped: the Window release was exclusive to Epic Games Store 🤮 for a full year. That's it. Whether it came down to greed or mismanagement, not having a Steam release at launch hurt this game bad.

That's a....long time
7:50 After having played It takes two, I'll definitely check out A Way Out! Hazelight really know how to do good "couch" co-up games, they are not so many out there.
I can recommend the "We were here" serie if you're looking for remote co-up, but it's IMO not as deep in the bound between the two characters.
The original Ghost Recon doesn't get the praise it deserves these days.
Alien Isolation also has a great free VR mod
I thought this would be a list of games that were better early on in their lifecycle, but got progressively worse. 😅
Good list idea maybe? Overwatch 1, Diablo 4, and GTA Online come to mind. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch.
That's actually a good idea.
Diablo 4 is still brand new, that's dumb
Scarlet Nexus felt like I was actually PLAYING an anime. That is kind of strange but awesome.
Gunslinger was awesome, the narration was spot on!
Star Wars Squadrons is an amazing game! The complex controls and ship management compared to BF 1 and 2 can scare some players.
👍🏼
I think that Ghostrunner really doesn't get the attention it deserves. People kind of forgot about it after its release. The cyberpunk world, the story, and the unique 'one-hit' fight mechanics and the awesome soundtrack makes it a superb game. I hope the sequel will put both games into the limelight.
As usual, you guys have done an awesome job and put up another great video. Loved it.
What about Bulletstorm? It's so underrated.
Damn right
Ghost Recon : Breakpoint was a really fun game imo. Me & 2 of my friends really had a blast playing co-op clearing out outposts & the campaign. The only thing i hate was that i had to pay extra money to play further into the campaign missions 😢
Immortal Phoenix rising is one of the best games
I would add to this list:
Evil West
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales
Frostpunk
Thronebreaker was such a good game.
I liked Immortals Fenyx Rising it was a lot of fun and challenging at parts and the characters were pretty cool..I call it Greek of the Wild lol
10/10 - perfect description!
Yo thanks for mentioning Astral Chain. It's amazing!
So basically, I missed absolutely nothing
Naw you did you just have bad taste
