    As I have mentioned before, I was new to the channel and have worked my way from your first trip going towards your newest. I have been waiting for the Ukrainian vlogs. It is really surreal to see what Ukraine was prior to 2/24/22. Seeing Lviv in it’s prewar state is hard to see knowing there is such suffering and horrific things going on now. I continually pray that the evil regime will be defeated and that the Ukrainian people can come home and that the world will help them rebuild. These vlogs in Ukraine are very important. I am glad you have them to share on your channel.

      Like you I have started from the beginning after one of their videos came up on my feed and I really enjoy seeing the world through their eyes. They are such a lovely couple. It is hard to see Ukraine in peace after knowing what happens. I thought the underground bar looked quite fun. I don't know why Putin thought it was right to go after innocent people like this because that is basically what it is, wholesale slaughter of innocent people trying to live their lives. For what???? I just hope that the world would get a grip and not blame the Russian people because they are innocent in all of this. I'm praying for the people on both sides that they have peace soon. Thank you Matt and Julia for doing these vlogs. I have a good laugh when Julia goes for the Borsch. Everyone I know that has tried it hates it and I won't try it because I hate beets. 😂😂

      @fleshnbone187 Thank you for your response. I have come to realize that there is more to the story than I thought at first. I'm afraid the democrats are at it again, interfering in other countries. I say democrats because they have been the ones in power but the Republicans are no better. Over the years I have been slowly losing respect for my country for getting involved with other nations. I don't think I have any left. And who are the people that suffer? It's people like you and me sitting in our house watching TV, preparing a meal or playing with our kids when their house or apartment building is blown out from under them. Just thinking about it makes me have to choke back tears.

      And that is completely wrong you should really stop listening to russia - every word from their mouths is a big fat lie! You should pay attention to trustworthy sources, not some wet inventions of a crazy lunatic. Putin did wake up one morning and decided to invade Ukraine, which is an independent country no matter the population nationality, language, etc. Actually, two mornings - one in 2014 and one in 2022.
      If there was/is a region in the USA where most population is speaking Spanish Mexican - does it mean that Mexico should invade the USA and vice versa? The only response is NO. No country is allowed to invade another INDEPENDENT country!

    Having been to Lviv 8-ish times, I think you captured the ambience and atmosphere of the city really well! And that's coming from someone who didn't really like it the first few times around. :) (Being a teacher, I always ended up there during the holidays -- the same time as *everyone* else. Those cute narrow streets get a bit claustrophobic then!) Also, you went to one of my favorite breakfast places! I hope you enjoyed your whole time in Lviv and that you get some good Carpathian time! If you need some suggestions, hit me up!

    Lviv is such a nice city. The people there are so friendly right? Well if you are a Russian, those people at the bar might not be so friendly, even though they speak Russian. Back in 1941, after the Wehrmacht took Kiev, the SS and Bandera's men, mostly from Lviv and Western Ukraine rounded up over 40,000 Jews from Kiev and shot each one of them over a 2 day period at a large open pit at Babi Yar and covered their dead bodies. The problem here is most residents of Lviv consider these Banderite men heroes. Apparently attitudes haven't changed very much since the end of the WWII.

      Lviv (Polish: Lwów) will always have a special place in Poland's history. It was a very important city of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1569-1795). Its university was founded by the Polish king Jan II Kazimierz in 1661, some 150 years before a university was founded in Warsaw! Even after the partitions of Poland/Lithuania, Lwów played a tremendously important role in Polish culture, science, society. Poland's first sports club was not founded in Warsaw or Kraków, but in Lwów (1903). In the interwar period (1918-1939), not Warsaw, but Lwów hosted the famous School of Mathematics. Very many important personalities of post-war Poland were born in Lwów or in its area, to this day many have family roots there. Lwów - now Lviv - will forever remain an extraordinary part of our Polish identity.

    So here's the lesson for you, if you gonna visit Ukraine - speak Ukrainian, not Russian, it's just a simple respect to speak the language of the country you're visiting rather than the one they're at war with...

    • @MattandJulia
      @MattandJulia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      So here is a lesson for you. Russian is the native language to nearly 30% of people in Ukraine, it is the majority language in big cities like Odessa, Kharkiv and even Kyiv. By the way, you even hear it on the streets of Lviv, especially from tourists from other parts of the country. Russian may not be official but by no means is it is 'foreign language' in Ukraine. Russian is not only owned by the country of Russia, but Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Ukraine and more. Just as English isn't only owned by England...
      On that note, what language do you expect us to communicate in?
      We learnt what we could, but you expect us to have learnt fluent Ukrainian in 3 days? Before you come back with that, every occasion we tried to speak in English, very few people could understand us.
      We would ask you politely to grow up and stop politicising language...

      Спасибо вам огромное за ваши тёплые слова. Честно, ваше обращение очень многое для нас значит.
      Конечно знаем. На самом деле все случилось очень неожиданно и мы снимали наше нахождение в этом месте в состоянии шока. Мы не знали как лучше поступить, но не хотели не упомянуть, что такое место существует. Мы не хотим возраждать ненависть и накалять ситуацию, которая сейчас происходит. Но в этой части страны присутствует довольно-таки яркое чувство национализма. Это место считается 'приколом' (Мэтт говорил, что его аж в 'Орёл и решка' показывали), мне там было ужасно неудобно и в голове эта 'шутка' не очень укладывается. Мы не ржём над ситуацией или историей, это больше нервный смех. Мы не хотели создавать какую-то драму, а хотели передать эти чувства (ситацию) в лёгкой форме.
      Я надеюсь, что я смогла сформулировать мои мысли в понятной форме.😊 Мы не хотели никого обидеть или выставить себя идиотами.
