My grandmother and even my father lived the same way in Mississippi, the rural parts of the state were still not fully developed in the 80s, they were still using wells, preserving food and using dirt roads until they finally finished the highway in 1987.

Hi from New Zealand. It was awesome watching this young lady as it brought back memories of when I was a child, watching my mother & grandmother preparing our meals the exact same way, no off the shelf supermarket prepared meals. No gas or electric stoves. We grew our own, raised our own & stored our own.!!!

Hello, I am from Kentucky, USA and this reminds me of how my great grandmother cooked here in Kentucky when I was was kid. She was born in 1893 and passed away in 1987. It is great to see old style cooking and kitchen wear still being used all over the world. This brings back childhood memories. I miss those days and her good homestyle, stick to your ribs cooking. I own all of her cast iron skillets and some aluminum pans and utensils. Plus her potato smasher and old hand carrot peeler. I am sure some of the pans and other gear are from the late 1800's to early 1900's and they are still going. That is when things were made to last. Thanks for the memories.

I found this hard type of life in the cold very fascinating and the food made me very hungry. I loved the view of life as she lives it, the fire, stove, preparing food, feeding the animals, getting supplies to cook. I know it is a tough life but this girl made it look easy. It was nice to see such a great person live her life and make great food. I loved the perogies stuffed and they are delicious. I pray she lives in peace as these are wonderful people. These aren't called "Pierogi" here, they are called "Vsreniki". Pierogi (or Perogie) is a general term for a pie usually and Vsreniki are a special type of Pierogi. The difference is Pierogi are baked or fried, Vsreniki are not, they are boiled, That's why you don't call them Pierogi, it would be strange here to have someone call a Vareniki a "Pierogi". She intiallu prepares the stuffing by maybe frying that but, You can see right at the end of the clip she pulls them out of a small bowl shaped pot of boiling water on her stove. They're done and ready to serve up after boiling. Anyway I hope that didn't confuse you or anyone else reading this.

They don't live in a throw away society. That knife she used has been sharpened many times you can tell by the curve of the cutting edge. I'm guessing that the pots and pans are very old and get passed down from generation to generation. The knowledge inherent in her ways runs deep. These are skills that we will need more of.

In Canada, everyone just lines up in the drive thru for food. If we do make anything at home it usually involves ripping open a plastic package and eating. It's quite refreshing to see someone spend most of their day just preparing food, but you can also tell she has prepared well for the entire winter.
I am sure in many rural areas, some personal farms, off grid or natives reserves, there are many similarities. I heard some reserves have no drinking water.... In any way this is a village and life is more simple there.

Brilliant! I live in England but my father was Ukrainian and proud of it. As a kid remember eating " pyroggie" Mashed taties with cheese and onion boiled in a. Case of rolled out doe and flower . Served with fried onions in loads of butter.. Salivating now just thinking about it.... Martyn.

If you are interested, we make ravioli similar to the ones you made, but we fill them with a cheese called ricotta and spinach. Once cooked, we dress them with tomato sauce and lots of Parmesan cheese. Yours are very appetizing too, but try ours too. You are a good cook, a pretty girl who carries a sweet gift inside her. My grandparent lived on a farm in Pennsylvania, USA and had 6 children. I remember my Grandma and Mom making pierogis. Your's look perfect. Thank you so much for bringing back a wonderful memory. Pierogis are still made in southwestern Pennsylvania and very popular. If you ever decide to come to America, move somewhere around Pittsburgh and get a job at Pierogies Plus.

First impression. A beautiful young women without colored long finger nails and lipstick. I have seen it all myself. During my humanitarian work in Ukraine I stayed overnight at the parents in law of my German friend in a Ukrainian village. He is happily married since 12 years with their daughter, has 2 boys and a girl and a wife taken care of the children and the very large farm house. Every couple years he has to enlarge the green house, because she wants to plant more cucumbers, tomatoes and other things for canning. She respects him and supports him when ever she can! Lucky lucky men.

Hello, I am from Kentucky, USA and this reminds me of how my great grandmother cooked here in Kentucky when I was was kid. She was born in 1893 and passed away in 1987. It is great to see old style cooking and kitchen wear still being used all over the world. This brings back childhood memories. I miss those days and her good homestyle, stick to your ribs cooking. I own all of her cast iron skillets and some aluminum pans and utensils. Plus her potato smasher and old hand carrot peeler. I am sure some of the pans and other gear are from the late 1800's to early 1900's and they are still going. That is when things were made to last. Thanks for the memories.

I found this hard type of life in the cold very fascinating and the food made me very hungry. I loved the view of life as she lives it, the fire, stove, preparing food, feeding the animals, getting supplies to cook. I know it is a tough life but this girl made it look easy. It was nice to see such a great person live her life and make great food. I loved the perogies stuffed and they are delicious. I pray she lives in peace as these are wonderful people. These aren't called "Pierogi" here, they are called "Vsreniki". Pierogi (or Perogie) is a general term for a pie usually and Vsreniki are a special type of Pierogi. The difference is Pierogi are baked or fried, Vsreniki are not, they are boiled, That's why you don't call them Pierogi, it would be strange here to have someone call a Vareniki a "Pierogi". She intiallu prepares the stuffing by maybe frying that but, You can see right at the end of the clip she pulls them out of a small bowl shaped pot of boiling water on her stove. They're done and ready to serve up after boiling. Anyway I hope that didn't confuse you or anyone else reading this.

In Canada, everyone just lines up in the drive thru for food. If we do make anything at home it usually involves ripping open a plastic package and eating. It's quite refreshing to see someone spend most of their day just preparing food, but you can also tell she has prepared well for the entire winter.

Brilliant! I live in England but my father was Ukrainian and proud of it. As a kid remember eating " pyroggie" Mashed taties with cheese and onion boiled in a. Case of rolled out doe and flower . Served with fried onions in loads of butter.. Salivating now just thinking about it.... Martyn.

If you are interested, we make ravioli similar to the ones you made, but we fill them with a cheese called ricotta and spinach. Once cooked, we dress them with tomato sauce and lots of Parmesan cheese. Yours are very appetizing too, but try ours too. You are a good cook, a pretty girl who carries a sweet gift inside her. When she was 16, my Grandma immigrated from a region that was ruled by the Austria-Hungarian Empire, but is not part of western Ukraine. My grandparent lived on a farm in Pennsylvania, USA and had 6 children. I remember my Grandma and Mom making pierogis. Your's look perfect. Thank you so much for bringing back a wonderful memory. Pierogis are still made in southwestern Pennsylvania and very popular. If you ever decide to come to America, move somewhere around Pittsburgh and get a job at Pierogies Plus.

I have seen it all myself. During my humanitarian work in Ukraine I stayed overnight at the parents in law of my German friend in a Ukrainian village. He is happily married since 12 years with their daughter, has 2 boys and a girl and a wife taken care of the children and the very large farm house. Every couple years he has to enlarge the green house, because she wants to plant more cucumbers, tomatoes and other things for canning. She respects him and supports him when ever she can! Lucky lucky men.
