if you can't afford it, then become a pirate 🏴☠️ but make sure you do a lot of hard word, upgrade your living of standard so that in future you can afford it then buy the whole software because I LOVE DAVINCI RESOLVE. it's really great software not like adobe who is milking the consumers.

Hey dude. A VPN like Nord and sailing the 7 seas is acceptable while you get your money sorted. Reality is people usually go that route when they can't afford to buy the program anyway, so it's a net gain to them considering they're at least getting exposure from it. If you do like it though, do try to pay them. We as consumers need to support the guys doing honest work as much as we can.

Thanks fuck this has finally showed up in a regular NLE. I've been round-tripping this stuff through reaper and trying all sorts of tricks to automate this years ago. Honestly, we didn't even need AI technology to make this happen but I'm glad it's finally here.

This is insane...The amount of time that I spend cutting out dead space for my audio is ridiculous.
I guess I'm going to have to buy the whole version because this will save me days in hours of editing every year.
EDIT: Researching this further I've found cheaper versions of basically the same tool, and there are free ones out there as well...Just a heads up!

Give the app Recut a try. It automatically pulls dead space out, let's you adjust padding and silence thresholds and save the results as an xml file so you can make a timeline from that. You can either do the xml with spaces removed or just the cuts. (Since it doesn't actually edit your footage you can pull the in and put trim points.

Studio One has had strip silence for years. Nice to see Resolve has it, too. Big times save for dialogue.

Maybe you should add STUDIO after Davinci Resolve because this feature is only available in the paid version
I got excited about the title "...and dead space" because I thought there might be finally a way to automatically cut out parts of the video where nothing is happening on screen. Pity is is only silent parts it removes. As an artist, I film myself painting and often I am just staring at the screen thinking. I would love to cut those parts out automatically and just keep the action.

Davinci is so ahead of the game to actually have this a part of their program, beta or not. But for any of my Final Cut/Premiere boys & girls - for now you can just use Gling.
It's still a small project I think and it can get super glitchy if you edit 4k footage over 30 mins....but still saves a shit ton of time.
Welcome to the new era of editing..get excited because as things progress in the coming years, our creativity in our editing is only going to become more valuable.

That is great!!! Question...how would this work if I have, say, a wedding ceremony filmed on 4 different cameras and I want to do a multicam edit?

Hmm I'm not sure if the remove silence feature works with multicams, you could give it a shot though! Setup your multicam ahead of time and then walk through the same steps.
If that doesn't work, you could transcribe the audio on the timeline itself (through the timeline menu), and then go about it that way
i guess you first sync the Multicam Clips and try to transcript the MC Clip as one. but idk if i am talking shit haha

I was just trying to solve this today. I ended up exporting my files to another program specialised on this cuts and then bring them back. I’ll give it a try but I’m concerned about it’s precision.
Yeah it's probably not gonna be as precise as you want, but it's really nice to give you a general clean up

i wish it worked for my language, but it is glitchy as hell. Doesn't really recognize che speech and it doesn't help to select the parts i need. I may work only with a clear audio and a certain quality provided. :/

Is there a way to store this as a new clip in the media pool? Sometimes I have to do multiple takes on things and use the speed editor for source tape mode. The main reason I want to use this is to cut large gaps of silence between portions of footage before I start editing. I do music production tutorials so I may spend 3 minutes searching for a sound or tweaking something before I start talking again. Which is a pain to scrub through in source tape mode
hmmm, i know what you're describing, and I'm not sure. The "Silence Remover" is a relatively new feature, so I would lean towards not yet, but probably in the future. This seems to be something a lot of the community is using and excited for and I'd be surprised if Black Magic didn't continue to flesh it out
@@itstheWampus thanks for your reply! I figured that would be the case. I guess I could append the changes to the timeline, then make a compound clip and drag it into the media pool as a workaround!
The only reason why I'm reluctant to use this in my workflow, is that i think the pauses are important, sometimes they are funny or add more meaning to that clip.

Kind of? There arent any controls yet for like an audio level tolerance or how much to keep/remove before and after the cuts. I feel like this will be something DR hopefully includes in future updates, but for now it's primarily useful for pre-splitting clips you're working with (kind of like the cut detector)
you can erase them manually as well, so you left the silences that you want

I want to use this function so badly once it is out of beta
but... how do you "undo" a portion if you want the silence or it is needed?
swap to the "Trim Edit" mode (the icon next to the mouse cursor on your edit tool bar) and push the clip out in whatever direction you want the silence added back in. It's not a perfect system yet, just a tool you can use when you want
why is this not working for me? it cant detect my silence
Great video, but i've tried this and I am able to remove silence in the transcript, but when I apprend literally nothing happens. Any ideas?
My only suggestion would be to make sure you hit "CTRL + A" in the text window or at least whatever parts you want to insert, and THEN hit append. If you don't have anything selected, it won't insert any parts of the video
I have 2 questions.
1.When i drag the clip into tomelboth audio and video appears. When i try to delete the audio video also get deleted. So im locking the video timeline everytime i delete the audio and unlock video again. Solution for this ?
2. When i drag the audio to timeline audio will be activated in only one side of the headphones. Then i have to go to clip attributes and turn the settings from mono to stereo to enable listen in both sides.
Solution for this ?

1. There are a few fixes for that. If you hold down the "ALT" key on your keyboard, you should be able to select either only the video or only the audio. You can also click off the "Link" option. It looks like a little chain link and it's right next to the magnet icon above your timeline.
2. I'm not sure if there is a great fix for this, unless you make sure you're recordings are recorded in Stereo :/

no :( unfortunately that feature is only in the studio version. There is a software called Recut that will do the same thing outside of DaVinci, but it's also paid software

@@itstheWampus in the transcript dialog box, manually find the words or phrases you do not want, click highlight them, right click and "delete" it clips the media removing that selection.

Just to let you all know. It honestly never works for me. It cuts all the clips but you will still have to adjust a lot of them because it still leave space in plenty of the clips where you have dead audio.
I assume I would still have to go in and add a smooth or other transition at all the cuts?

That! is a great question, I haven't tried it, but I think it would work. I don't think you could edit it once it's added to the timeline (like you can in premiere), but if you were to delete sections before appending, I think it should work

Sadly, the feature is only in the paid ... would have thought an automatic cut start and end of silence feature would have been more instinctive than going via the transcribe feature
Any tips for the free version?
I want to use this so badly as I routinely edit 1 to 1.5 hour interviews for my channel, but I don't know how to do this because I use separate audio channels for each speaker. I need to do that so I can fine tune each person's audio. If I have it auto transcribe off the main video, then I can't use the individual audio tracks because they won't have the cuts. Any suggestions? The only thing I can think of is to do the audio adjustments and then export the video, Then I would import it again and apply the transcription tool.
hmmm, that is tricky. It sounds like you need to sync everything in the timeline first and then use the tool. I don't know if I have a great answer to that, I'm sorry :/

Is this program or software relatively beginner user-friendly? I'm a new TH-camr and just upload videos from my phone with no editing 🙈 I don't know if I'd hire a video editor/videographer at this point. Maybe in the future.
Hmmm, yes and no. DaVinci Resolve can be a bit overwhelming if you hop straight in head first, but if you were to sit down for a half hour and watch a tutorial or too, you could definitely pick it up! I would say that if editing is something you plan on doing a bit more casually, Capcut is also great

I feel like I don't really need silence removed yet but more so better at transitioning video to video. Thank you for the replies! I'm growing my channel if you want to check it out. 😊

Make sure you reselect your text! After you hit remove silent portions, it'll unselect everything even though its still highlighted. Just hit CTRL+A again 👍
@@itstheWampus yep, everything was selected. But I found out the problem, I was transcripting selecting the Timeline icon instead of the clip icon... Now it work. LOL

yes! so this is the public beta of 18.5, you can download it off of Blackmagic Designs website (there is a Free and Studio (paid) version of the Beta). Eventually all these features will be included in an official release, but you can start using them in the Beta now!

This is not a good thing!! Cutting out every single natural pause in human speech makes it awkward and unnatural. I mean… sure, it’s worth cutting out super long pauses or elongated moments of silence. But there is nothing more annoying than killing every natural moment of pause or breath.
