3 Reasons Why I Hacked My DJI Mavic Pro

  • Today I wanted to cover something a little more controversial, hacking my Mavic Pro. More particularly, modifying flight parameters to remove the no fly zone and height limitations. There's a lot of people who are extremely passionate about the subject of drones and abiding by FAA regulations.

    HI! Is there any way to replace the camera of the Mavik Pro with another one? Or find out which protocol it uses?

    Why put restrictions on drones?? My car has a limit of 160 mph yet the law only allows me to go 70 max, should my car maker put a restriction? I think not! I am responsible if I speed !

    One of the most eye opening experience that i have ever had about how free we are in the US is when a person who grew up in Soviet Russia told me that she felt more free there than walking down the street in Santa Monica. We have regulations for regulations here and we are suffering a "death by a thousand cuts" in regards to our freedoms here.

      Freedom is not doing whatever you find amusing, that is called anarchy. As for SSSR, they were free to worship their leader, and that is it. I am not saying US is some kind of benchmark, but still people can live their lives there the way they want. If you look how many creationist, flat Earth and other idiotic groups and communities is in the United States, well I would say it is relatively free country...

    I heard aluminum tape on the top of it blocks location, and you can fly sport mode. Looks ghetto, but it works in a pinch.As far as legal, you could just buy a parrot drone until faa jumps on them , you know thats the future.

    Just hacked my platinum earlier today. Had a few issues and almost bricked it (actually, i DID a few times), but man, it sure is nice! Gotta be careful with the values from the TH-cam video I watched though because even in GPS I still sometimes get motor overcurrent warnings. May need to tweak those values a little lol

    I applaud you for your hacking and responsible efforts. As for Freedom, I agree that being safer in Hanoi than Santa Monica, which is way South of Stockton California where I live now. Stockton is one of the most violent cities in America. While flying my little Syma drone last year not from my house, some punks were shooting at my drone with BB's and almost hit my eye.
    Yeah, I say Hanoi sounds really good.

    I have made available custom firmware mix that now fixes the muddy, poorly compressed 1080p 60fps issue. Also with the features of version .0700 which will allow you to modify flight parameters and retain them. The best of all worlds. available here: hypedphoto.com/dronevideos/dji-go-older-versions/

    I anyone with the FAA part 107, Mavic should release all the limitations. I was hired to use my drone to inspect very tall hangers at a small airport. I got permission from the head air controller, ( the job was for him and two other owners ) Great all permissions a good to go. Got there and the damn DJI would not fly. China had it locked out. I called DJI to get them to unlock it, it was going to take a month at best. All the pilots, most of them ex-military, could not believe it. We had some great discussions about having all permissions you need to fly in the US, but have to call another country to get permission to fly in the United States. They need to limit the drones used by non-insured, no license pilots, but there should be a way, once you confirm you have the license and insurance your good to go. A friend of mine is an engineer and flys the DJI Inspire. The was telling me about a building he had to inspect that was over 400 ft high. He knows it is legal to fly 400 feet about a 600 ft building, but China had him locked out. His firm is now buying a US-made drone that does not have that issue. I subscribed. thanks for the vid.

      Similar thing here except DJI allowed us to fly around the airport during construction. We could fly out of or past the barrier but we could land and take off inside of it. They gave us three strict months of being able to and then we couldn’t after that.

    I recently came back from China, and a a slew of incredible areas of interest I would have loved to have gotten were restricted by the NFZ zones. I need to remove! I totally agree with you... fly responsibly and don't have have any worries. Love your video.. and I'm jealous your in Asia. Too many here back home think it's a backwards place. Of all my personal encounters visiting Asia was the most enlightening and educational. It puts things in perspective when you return home.

    There's a reason those limitations are on your drone. The NFZ's are kinda obvious why but altitude and speed limits are equally important. By flying and faster than the limits you are basically exceeding the specs of your drone. There's no way to tell what maneuvering at high speed will do to the mechanical components and the battery of your drone. It put's more strain on the props and the airframe, it requires more power and you might exceed the safe limitations of your battery which is a Lithium Polymer battery. TH-cam is full of video's showing what will happen when to much current is drawn from such battery's: KABOOM! and lot's of fire. And what if a propellor breaks off and someone gets hit in the face by a runaway Mavic Pro traveling at 70 Mph? Can you imagine how that would look after the fact? And can you take responsibility for that? Or how about it flying a mile high? For starters there's a different atmosphere and who knows what that will do to the battery and other electrical components? What if it crashes down on someone? What if it hit's the helicopter that was just passing by? Simply put, you don't know what the short term and long term effects on your drone will be and you certainly can't take responsibility if someone get's killed or permanently injured from it. What you are doing is irresponsible and simply because laws and regulations are not really enforced in the country you're in doesn't mean you can just go ahead and ignore them.

    • @MitchellMillennial
      @MitchellMillennial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I never claimed to changed anything surrounding the top speed or anything about how its flight stresses the frame. I am fully aware of the consequences of altering top speed
