  • Lenovo's new Windows-on-ARM (WOA) business laptop, packing 5G mmWave support, is the first with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 CPU. Will the battery life make you go "Whoa!" over WOA, though?

    Who's the genius who thought this needed a soundtrack, and one too loud at that? Very distracting and just a bad, unnecessary idea. But that is jmo.

    Honestly, this is an informative, comprehensive, and well written summary. But the music is not only distracting, and way too loud, it is probably the most annoying tune I've ever heard. Please, please, PLEASE, do not ruin your otherwise excellent videos in this way. It made the video a pain to watch.

    Stopped by to see what you guys had to say about this laptop. I almost bought it a little while ago, but figured I's look into it a little more. I'd be using it for some work, but I'd be using it quite often for everyday tasks and streaming video like netflix, showtime and so on. will this laptop handle streaming sites well? Will it play movies that are put on the drive, and not lag or overheat? I did look for a follow up video on this, but couldn't find one.

    • @picn8460
      @picn8460 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience, Lenovo always has really bad speakers on all of their devices, so, not sure if streaming is what this is meant for; but it's a very efficient 5nm processor, so I doubt you'd have overheating issues.

      Probably, there are a few distros that come with an ARM version. And some ARM only distros too. It's been a minute since I was researching that stuff though so things might have changed, I can't say for certain what offerings there are. But if you Google it I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. The ARM based distros also use ARM only repositories, so you can just install packages and know they'll be ARM compatible. Though I can't speak to selection. I know there's been an effort to port stuff over to ARM, but you might run into a few applications not being available.

    I love that more companies are pushing the ARM laptop section further, but 28 hours = 14 hours in the real world, and the exclusion of USB-A is ridiculous.

    • @marcello4258
      @marcello4258 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      for what would you need usb a on such a device honestly? (btw you can just use an adapter for your legacy usb stick) .. 14 hours would be 3 times what other devices have to offer.. but i think it would last longer than 14h

    • @LazyPCRehab
      @LazyPCRehab 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@marcello4258 USB-A is not as "legacy" as people like to say it is. Many people have to have access to it for their workflow. The entire idea of having long battery life in an ultrabook, is to be ultra portable, having to carry dongles defeats the purpose. Also, in my experience, battery is typically only around 50 to 60 percent of manufacturers projections. Apple tend to be the only caveat.

    • @marcello4258
      @marcello4258 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LazyPCRehab RS232 was once the same or ps/2 it is called legacy because the industry already moved that is the fact. And on such a device you wouldn't use other HID hence USBC is the way to go and takes much less space inside the device. No the battery is what it is printed on it. Lasting depends on usage as usual. I have for instance on my Thinkpad usually only around 30-40% brightness indoor so I get pretty decent battery life. The CPU consumption is in office works pretty low and the video Codecs are asics and not CPU bounded

    • @LazyPCRehab
      @LazyPCRehab 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marcello4258 When the majority of mobile workstation laptops and workstations in general, are missing USB-A, then you might be able to argue that it is legacy, but not until then. I argue that USB-A is not "legacy" in real-world work situations, not technicalities. And yes, rule of thumb is 50% the manufacturers quoted battery life. If you have to turn the brightness down to 20% and turn WiFi just to reach it, it isn't real. I imagine battery is even better if you turn the screen completely off, but we wouldn't use a metric such as that.
