This is my most antecipated laptop since the MacBook Air with M1. That's great seeing Windows on Arm platform. Soon I hope to see the Linux kernel supporting it too. That will be the perfect laptop for developers.

This. Thinkpads have always had good Linux support, which we appreciate. And Microsoft

    how bout linux compability?

    • @mzamroni
      @mzamroni 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Linux compatibility is basically kernel matter.
If your dosen linux distro hasn't support the hardware, it maybe the hardware hasn't be enabled in the kernel.
So, replace the kernel with newest lts kernel that support the hardware. Recompile with needed kernel options enabled is necessary.
It's indeed not common users skill, but technically it's possible as long as the kernel source already contains support of the particular hardware

@@mzamroni There are several distros shipping with ARM instead of x86 or AMD64 ISOs, so I will be following closely

@@mzamroni There's more involved than just the kernel. Arm chips boot completely differently from x86, whether or not the boot loader is locked is a huge factor.

I can’t wait to see the performance of qualcom 8cx gen 3. What I am really curious about is how it would handle programming and compiling code.

I couldn't find any Video showing performance. So i doubt that it will be good.

Code compiling & programming are moved to container such as dockers.. ThinkPad is more for exec usage & should be enough if it can communicate with a docker fast.

Really curious to see how the screen and speakers perform. I know this will make a very compelling work laptop, but it would be nice to know it can provide hours of entertainment when stuck somewhere.

I agree with previous comments that this looks like a black Macbook. The corners are too rounded. The communications bar is ugly, as well, just like a forehead or a chin on smartphones.
At least the hinge is a long bar, which hopefully reduces stress on the lid (see T440s and T450s). Anchor the hinges to the titanium chassis, not to the lid!

Built in cellular modem is not needed in laptop use cases.

@@scality4309 wifi is everywhere. Moreover, users simply can tether from phone.
I used laptop with built-in modem in 2010.
It did useful because I was still using Symbian smartphone and the phone couldn't tether.
It can be Bluetooth modem for the laptop but the phone would lose data connectivity.
Android tethering doesn't have that limitation, so the laptop modem was no longer needed.
