I just got back from traveling to Seattle, Santa Barbara and Solvang. 90 percent skinny jeans and leggings and very few wide leg pants. I think manufacturers are trying to push change and not the public. Wear what feels comfortable and makes you feel confident. Change feels fresh but what looks good on your body rarely changes.

I have to agree. I think the wide leg jeans screams frump, especially when paired with sneakers. The manufacturers want us to change it up so we will spend more money. Kay, you look lovely in this video as always, but I was not in love with some of the suggested new looks. I may have to sit out 2023.

I always love your videos, Kay! I've used so much of your advice successfully. Sooo, about those skinny jeans . . . First: It's somewhat difficult to find nice jeans that aren't "skinny." Second: Although you look fabulous in everything, Kay, your most stunning photos in this video are, I think, the ones where you are modeling the skinny jeans! Third: As a 63 y.o. at 5'6" w/long legs, I feel much more "frumpy" in those shorter, wide-ankle jeans than I do in the longer and leaner "skinny" jeans. It really depends on your build and personal style. Sometimes, what's in style at the moment may not be something you can carry well, as you said in the beginning. Personally, I'm going to have to stick with the skinnier-style jeans. :)

That's hardly a fair comparison. I would never describe skinny jeans as "long" because they're just ankle length, and I would rather die than be caught dead in "high-water" pants. I wear straight or boot-cut jeans and pants that hit the tops of my shoes, at the instep.

@@edennis8578 Agree ! Your pant & jean styles are classics - suitable for women of all heights & body types . May need a slight variation in length depending on footwear . Personally , I'm at an age when flats or low heels / wedges are not only comfortable but practical , so virtually no pants to hem ! 🙂

I grew up in the early 70's so loved flared pants, and for my body type they still work. Chubby and short with large calves-- never ever have worn skinny jeans! Knowing your body type and what is flattering is the key rather than just hopping on the trend bandwagon. Other ways to stay current without wearing something that does you no favors!

I'm going to pretend I didn't hear the suggestions about putting away the animal print. :) Honestly, leopard print in particular has been in and out of style so much, it is hard to keep track. It has been around so many years, you can almost put it in the classics category. I have seen old 40's and 50's movies where the actress might be seen with a leopard belt or purse, even a coat.

Wonderful suggestions. However, in my opinion, the wide ankle leg pants with the oversize jacket with flats is aging to me. I much prefer tighter ankle length pants for an updated modern feel. As for skinny jeans, I will not give them up no matter what the trend is. That's just me.

Why do people want to look like cookie cutter fashion puppets? To me, it's out of style when I don't like the way I look. Thankfully people are waking up to being controlled by "what's supposedly in style " and rocking their own unique individuality. It's fun to stay informed of new current trends but letting others tell you not to wear something you still enjoy is weak minded and silly.
Personally, I'm rocking my skinny jeans with a leopard top till I'm 6 foot under!
You all have a great day and have fun being YOU !😊

Note for our sisters who want to diminish the look of their weight: if a person is overweight, horizontal stripes are a no-no. Many horizontal-striped shirts & horizontal-striped dresses give the illusion of the person wearing it being wider/larger than they are. Vertical stripes make a person look a little taller & less heavy. The striped shirt in the video looks great on Kay, but if an overweight person wants stripes, there are sometimes the options of shirts & dresses with vertical stripes that are nice-looking, too. As Kay basically says in her videos though, what you're comfortable & confident in matters, too.

Thanks for the trend/off trend update! I don't follow fashion mush and rely on a few favorite TH-cam channels to keep me straight. I'm not much of a trendy dresser, and I admit that a tunic style top over tight or skinny jeans is something I've enjoyed wearing especially in the past, it hasn't been a go-to this past year or so but I'm not quite ready to let go of my 3 faves. Glad skinny jeans are out, they do not balance the natural body shape unless you’re really slim, they do not create a flattering silhouette on most people. And tunics are just plain ugly, why wear something that makes you look like you’re wearing a maternity top from decades gone by? Embrace clothing that skims the body, even if you’re thick in the middle, as it will define the body versus creating a tent around your middle

Yeah, it’s interesting about the cold shoulder thing. I’ve been hearing mixed messages too. I think that’s because cut-outs are in, and for many women the only cut-out they feel comfortable wearing is the cold shoulder. I think a nice subset for that is a top that features some cut-outs at the collarbone instead.

I kept moving around in that same room, finding the same objects over and over and over again. Now I know how to do it I think it’s great fun ! Loved the tips, although … I realised I must have been out of fashion for quite some time 😂 … skinny jeans ? Camo ?? Animal print ??? Tunics ???! They never made it to my closet apparently. Thanks for another great video, Kay. I always enjoy your shows. It's just me, I am sure, but I do think the button up, over sized shirts (that you suggest wearing in place of a tunic) look very matronly, even with the tank top. Buttoned they might look a little better. And I agree that tunics are out of style. But I don't like their replacement either.
    Thanks again, Kay. Good show!

Good points - never liked camo - never understood why someone who wasn't in the military or a hunter would want to wear it! I have a very thick waist/midriff (not stomach), so wearing an oversized shirt over a tank is a good look, although I will button it part way down, as showing my middle is not! I think I will probably still keep wearing a couple of animal print pieces (maybe a belt, small scarf), and will keep one pair of grey skinnies!

It's exactly doing that, my knees are facing a slight angle 😅. Hope I don't start thinking too much lol.

Thank you for your videos, they are always on-point! I looove the trend of straight leg jeans not too wide at the leg opening (though I'll still keep the skinnies for the future). I buy the ones with 1% elastane, not coming back to stiff jeans ever... I also buy them one size larger (I think this looks more elegant). I take the time to adjust the waist though, so I'm not constantly pulling up my looser jeans, using a simple hand-sewn trick learned from my daughter: I cut two slits in the inside of the waistband to pass an elastic all around the inside of the band, leave it sewn-in on one side, and a little elastic tail on the other side for adjusting the waist as needed, girls knot this end, I choose to sew a button on the adjustable side and add some slits to the elastic band to adjust as needed the days I need more room... The elastic is concealed and does not bunch up the waist at all.
I'm not a fan at all of camouflage print, tunics or sweat pants, so I will not be missing them. I am loving the pants from Athleta that you feature in this and past videos. Will eventually consider buying.

Started wearing straight legs about five years ago after wearing skinnies for many years. Just bought a cute cropped straight leg, pretty much a skinny jean, from Old Navy and I am loving the skinnier silhouette again. Never wore the skinnies with heels. Skinny jeans are not really out, every brand still has skinnies, they are just not the "It" silhouette of the moment. Actually I have heard they are coming back. Were they ever really out? Haven't seen anyone wearing an infinity scarf in quite a few years...I'm in a major city. That was one trend I absolutely hated. Love animal print but only in shoes or bags. Always liked metallics too. Yuck, tunic tops and leggings.....gave up this look about five years ago as well. Only wear leggings in the yard or on my daily walks. No more leggings as an outfit. I won't be wearing the oversize shirt/tank....looks frumpy to me. Loved stripes but now that they are so in, I don't like them so much anymore. I start to hate things that begin to get too popular. I like when classics are on trend but when absolutely everyone is wearing something, I'm out. Fun to watch these videos and see what is in but really, in my 50's I know what I like and wear what I like and what looks good on me. I try to look current but also try to look a bit different from everyone else if that makes sense. So maybe wearing something that is on trend differently than how everyone else is wearing the trend and ditching things that become too popular. I enjoyed the video - thank you!

About ten years ago I just felt frumpy and short-legged in everything I had, then I realized it was the tunic over leggings silhouette that was causing this. I gave away all my tunics, many of which were very nice, to a friend who is much taller and heavier, she wore them gladly. Getting rid of tunics was the best fashion move I ever made, I look so much slimmer and better-proportioned in tucked-in tops. I only wear leggings for around the house now, because my derrière isn’t covered in shorter tops.

I'm not sure if this was duplicated..sorry. my comment is about the normal American women who look at these toothpick models and others who age, yet their bodies and faces don't change. These people have the funds to correct any evidence of aging, then women look at these pics and see that they're 55, but your look at 55 isn't the same at all. This is the source for new fashion, and while maybe Heidi Klum looks great in mid calf pants, I doubt any of us would look good in them. This season, as I looked through my clothing magazines I saw mid calf bellbottoms (yuck) and even in winter, capris. Neither look is appropriate for making the normal 55 year old look good. I'm 68, and folks tell me I don't look that old. But, I know this bod couldn't pull it off. Bellbottoms or wide leg pants as they are now called are only appropriate in Texas with cowboy boots, not sneakers. I am thin now, and I wear either tapered leg pants, leggings only under a tunic, and straight leg pants if I need a more dressed up look. PLEASE instead of thinking you look great in a nonpleasing pair of pants( And I've seen a lot of leggings on super large women accompanied with a short shirt or blouse and from the rear...yep) I think if you can't seem to see what you really look like, ask for frank honest opinions from those not related or friends with you, OR not your husband( poor guy) I stress honest, you can't get an honest comment from a store clerk. They get paid if they make a sale.

Just returned from Europe, and didn’t see anyone over about the age of 30 wearing leggings or skinny Jeans. Those who had them on were probably tourists. My opinion is, unless you are slim with narrow hips those Skinny Jeans or Leggings with a tunic top just make one’s hips/thighs heavier…and make the body look boxy.

I have never worn skinny jeans, for one very good reason..... they look terrible on me. I have skinny legs! And larger breast. So, I am rejoicing and doing the Snoopy dance for the new high waisted, wider leg jeans! They balance out my large breasts and accentuate my small waist. I wear them with cropped tops and small heels. SO much more flattering.

My favorite tip by far is about tunics. I HATE them. They make us look so much bigger!! So much more flattering to wear something that hits above butt-level, with pants that fit appropriately.
But, I will never abandon my skinnys. So for them I do go with an oversized button down, unbuttoned with a tank or tee underneath as you showed.
I never thought relaxed-fit joggers were fashionable. Athleisure only, ever, for me. I kinda hate the pants you showed instead though too. They look very grandma to me. But to each his own. Thank you for the tips!!!
