Seriously, congrats again - that's such a big jump from where it was during the Cacturne video (and even from when you recorded the script for this video :) ). So glad I found your channel earlier - I got in when you had fewer than 10 or 20, I think. So fun to see your channel grow :) Also, I hope I can catch the premiere next time. Also, will you ever make a Patreon? Duskull is such a cute little skull boi. I love it very much. Having a ghost type move in the early game is so painful - yes , normal types can't do anything to you, but you can't do anything to them either. Dome Fossil is superior, but I think you should choose the fossil based on the "vibe" or characteristics of the Pokemon. Like, if you do a Tentacool run, you should choose Helix, because tentacles. For Scyther, Dome works better, because scythe hands. I think you WERE alone in the guy looking at the Kangaskhan, until you phrased it THAT way. I'll probably never think of him the same way again. I REALLY wish Duskull/Dusclops had a reliable recovery option. It would work so well with substitute and its good defenses. Rest is good, but recover would be AMAZING with substitute, though it would cut into coverage That Lorelei fight time jump made me so sad for Dusclops :( Glad you saw the Rest strats with Lance though, and that substitute ended up not being the solution in this run. Rest strats best strat? :) It looks like, based on round 2 Agatha, male Pokemon might be optimal, if only for Misdreavus. I don't think gender affects any other battles, unless I'm misremembering. Also, on the editing side, I think it might be best if you try to cut out/around opening the menu to save, like you do with the battles. It gets a little distracting. I don't mind the item equipping menu use, but the frequent saving is a bit distracting. I think that the frequent saving might not be necessary in the second plathrough, as well. It would save a bit of time, and the first playthrough should give you an indication of what non-boss NPCs are risks. It might inflate the time savings a bit, but I feel it would be worth it to really optimize the second playthrough time. I think if the saves were in there occasionally it would be fine, but it's very, very frequent, so cutting them out might be valuable. ALSO, I really love what you do with the Elite 4 team previews :) Haven't seen any other comments mentioning it, but I like how it looks. It's a little busy, but I think it's worth it, especially for newer viewers unfamiliar with the FRLG elite 4 teams. Also, Gen 5 sprites are the best sprites. And finally, I don't remember if you've mentioned it, but do you do 31 IVs across the board for your Pokemon? You mention choosing the nature, but I don't know if you mentioned the IV spread. GEN 3 LEGENDARIES~~~~ Looking forward to it. I think Kyogre might have it based on my own instinct - I haven't checked movepools or anything.

I like you idea on switching between Dome/Helix based on the Pokémon I'm running. Sorry for ruining the Substitute tutor for you.. I have a... peculiar mind lol. I will always be a fan of Sub strats but after this week I'm definitely feeling some Rest strats. For my Pokémon and myself. Yes, I think you're correct about Misdreavous being the only threatening one with Attract. Lorelie's Jynx does have it too but seems more focused on Lovely Kiss generally. I'll consider including me saving less. I've had a lot of resets against, for example, a random Rocket that Parafuses me and I lose 5+ minutes to the reset. It's such a difficult balance to strike! Maybe I am a little too liberal with my saves though in playthrough 2. Good point :) As far as the E4 animations go I'm glad you like them. They feel cluttered to me as well but I haven't figured out a better way yet and they work for now. I'm the type that likes iterating on ideas. Plus it was the first animation that I've done! I learned a ton. Generally, unless I'm using a specific Hidden Power type the IVs are maxed at 31s across the board (HP Dark) which is what Dusclops had. Otherwise, HP Rock for instance would have 31s across the board with 30 in Def, SpD, and Speed giving a 70 base power HP Rock. As far as the legendaries go - wait and find out :) Kyogre was my initial vote but that's mostly because of the way Special/Physical works in Gen 3. Groudon can't even really take advantage of the sun without the ability to use physical Fire moves. Again, thank you so much for your support and engagement. Every video! I was definitely given one of those in the TH-cam recommendation algorithm. It was somewhere around there that I subscribed. So glad I've been able to come along for the journey (and hopefully boost you in the algorithm by commenting and liking, and watching through the videos multiple times, to increase the watch time/retention) I think it might be good to mention in your rules what your IVs look like (something like: "My Pokemon will have perfect IVs unless I'm looking for a specific hidden power type, as hidden power types are determined by IVs." not that exactly cuz it's awkwardly phrased, but it might be a good addition). That was my thought process with Kyogre, too. water types benefit more from rain than ground types from sun. a pure curiosity thing for me, that i don't think will affect the run too much, is how much time the "kyogre's drizzle caused a rainstorm"-type text will add to the run. Not important for you to calculate, but i wonder if it would make a difference when placed against really high-performing pokemon in the tier list. it won't matter much in a purely groudon v kyogre setting, as they both have the same issue edit: OH, and I hope the VS format for Kyogre and Groudon will help boost your subscriber/view count even more, since Poliwrath v Politoed and Scyther v Pinsir are your highest performing videos, so far

I really enjoy these videos you give off a really good energy. I think for the move list you should make the background for the move list a bit of a lighter color so the black text doesn't blend in as much. Maybe like a light gray or something like that. It seems like the TH-cam algorithm really likes Pokemon challenge videos so I definitely feel like your channel will blow up within the next few months. Keep up the hard work I can definitely tell you're putting a lot of work into these videos.

I'm still catching up on your videos as I just recently found the channel, I really love the format and a gen 3 alternative to Scott! One thing about EVs because it's hard to ignore with the Dusks: EVs give a flat bonus so if you have a really low HP stat and a really high Def stat, HP EVs are way more valuable. From my experience in competitive play I know that generally HP is preferred over Def or SpD EVs because it adds to both defenses as well as increasing Leftovers recovery, so I would suggest in general to consider buying HP Ups, or running some damage calcs to see how it works out--but in the case of Duskull, you really definitely want those over Irons.
That actually makes a lot of sense given that the EVs do provide a flat bonus. I always find myself thinking it's proportional to the base stat for some reason. Thank you for pointing this out! I've never played competitive and "needs more Atk EV" is a lot more simple than Duskull/clops. I feel I'm getting better over time with EVs/natures, but I still have plenty to learn :)
this video was so fun to watch! It's a lot of fun to watch powerful pokemon that arent necessarily the fastest. Perfect amount of suspense and "HECK YEAH GET 'IM" during the run. Am watching the squirtle video currnetly and you're explaining kicking vs punching and im wondering if a hitmon trio video might be something you're interested in?

Great video! Dusclops is a pretty cool Pokémon, but I’m curious about how the run could have differed if Dusknoir and the eviolite were available. Would you opt to evolve or would the benefits from eviolite outweigh the strengths of leftovers, and potentials rest/substitute? Not like you can really test it though, but still, great video!
Interesting question! I honestly thing I would have used the Eviolite and kept Dusclops. Evolving to Dusknoir gives a big boost to Attack but only marginal increases to Def, SpD, and SpA which was our primary offensive stat. The Speed might have been nice. In FireRed though, 100% Dusclops + Eviolite. Can you imagine the bulk? Thanks! :)
If I'd used Disable on Rock Tomb he would have been forced to use Tackle or Bind, which can't hit the Ghost type. I'd considered it but we were tanky enough to not risk the 55% accuracy of Disable.
I plan on branching into HeartGold in the near future. Initially, I wanted to focus on increasing the quality of my overlays, editing, scripting, audio quality, etc. I've only been doing this for a few months, and there's a lot of work that goes in behind the scenes.
So, I'm still watching the video, but wouldn't you have been able to use Disable to completely eliminate the threat of Misty's Starmie? I feel like tanking the first Water Pulse and then shutting it down would have won that fight easily.
I had considered it. In my first playthrough I hastily removed Disable but in the second I kept it around. I guess my sticking point was the 55% accuracy of Disable. Low acc. moves scare me :)
I just happened to wonder… it would be impossible to beat the game with only an unknown. They only know one move and can’t learn any TMs or HMs. With such a limitation on moves, it would be impossible to win the game with this pokemon right?
I had to take a bit to think about this one. I'm convinced that a Round 2 finish would be impossible, but maaaaybe Round 1 could be possible? There's one way to find out :D
Eggcellent sir, Dusclops is a great Ghost, an odd one being so defensive, but awesome nonetheless, I saw you go with HP Dark, a good Special alternative to Shadow Ball. its good to have STAB when you can, but if you are leaning into the special and have Calm Mind, makes sense to go all Special when you can. I'm running a Special Nidoqueen in Leaf Green at the moment and despite the stats, it works as a Special Attacker, especially since it can have Crunch, Surf and all the game corner moves, give it a try, you'll like
I'm super excited to run both Nidos. I'm glad you mentioned her as a good special attacker. I used to run King/Queen all the time in Gen 1 as special attackers because, well, they get everything that's good! I'm looking forward to getting into other games in the future that have the physical/special split so I can actually use special Ghost moves, or physical Dark moves.
@@Eggsceptional I'd say Nidoking is the better special attacker, you'd need full special invest to get Nidoqueen to be a better special attacker. Mine is Mild nature and I avoid any battle that doesn't give Special attack or speed EV's, there's something else, you'll need to keep it as a Nidorina until level 53 in order for it to have Crunch as Nidoqueen doesn't get it via level up, you'll spend most of the run with using water pulse, shock wave, bite and dig (until you can afford Ice Beam) until you can evolve and upgrade, its a tough run, but it works, Crunch is good enough to be me to justify it, you could do test runs to see if it works better as a physical or special attacker. Nidoking is easier, just evolve Nidorino when it learns Horn Attack and it'll be epic with any moveset
@jptheflipper3825 Interesting. I've made some notes and a note to refer back to this comment thread when I decide to do those runs. I was thinking about a VS, but I think I'd rather find another "King" and "Queen" to put them up against. Or run them individually since my VS start fully evolved. Either way, thanks for the tips. I'm 90% convinced that I wouldn't have kept Nidorina until 53 otherwise lol
@@Eggsceptional starting as King and Queen for a VS wouldn't be too bad, but you lose some the moveset options, as you know stone evolutions don't really learn anything new or good after evolving. if I may suggest, evolve both at level 22. Nidorino gets horn attack and Nidorina gets bite. both are handy moves for most of the run until you get to upgrade of course. fair enough with not evolving at 53 with Nidorina, its not easy, at least Nidoqueen gets body slam at 23. I have a thought for a VS with the Nido's though, physical Nido VS special Nido, both get fairly unique physical and special sets through Fire Red runs. Rock Slide, Earthquake, shadow ball and Brick Break are good for both, same way Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam and Surf are
@jptheflipper3825 That's all really good info. I'll take practical experience over theory crafting 9/10 times. I like the idea of special VS physical. Which would you do? Special King VS physical Queen? With Egg moves they can even get Confusion.. what strange learnsets!

I love that! I'm adding Alfonso as my name choice for a Persian run. Unfortunately, no Luxray in Gen 3 :( I'm not 100% sure when it will come out, but keep an eye out for it :)
The Dome Fossil gives you a better pokemon for a gen 1 solo playthrough, making it the objectively correct subjective choice. Who cares that the Helix Fossil saves frames?
There's some weirdness with the National Dex in the remakes. Usually, it isn't available until the postgame. Since I'm using a Pokémon from it the game doesn't understand 😅
Having watched a couple. *cough* half of everything *cough*. I think for the move list layout, you can simplify it into 2 columns: Name and Learning Method. ex: Lv08 Tackle, TM35 Flamethrower. This should let you make it bigger and easier to see. If anything you can add a little icon to tell the move's type. Move's category, power and accuracy could be added on after when the narration need to talk about them, other than that, it's not neccessary to be shown all the time.
I really like that idea. I've been thinking about ways to optimize the movepool layout, particularly with more elements coming to it in the future. In Gen 3 I want to add the live updating components, and in Gen 4 I have a whole second screen to capture. Condensing the movepool is necessary. Why are you using substitute even that early ? This destroys the whole fun :/ I would highly recommend to ban moves like this or at least to level 100. like Scott jrose or others I know many who are using no boost moves at all just as a last thing. That shows the real power of those Pokémon. Every Pokémon can sweep on +6 and kn combination with substitute this really doesn’t show a Pokémons power. This is just about making it easy.
I mean you are entertaining but you are destroying the fun a bit with those easy strats … this is just like double team. The thing is you are not doing this sometimes you are doing this in every video. Even with legendarys I assume. And for me this Is not challenging at all and in a substitute and sometimes then evasion and then boost ….even Scott isn’t doing that. But you are setting ivs to max aswell and all this combined i
This was an older run and admittedly I waaay overused Substitute after discovering it. I've demonstrated a few times since though that Substitute is not a cure all. I do admit to it's power though, and in recent videos I use it only as a last resort in the first playthroughs. The metric I place the most weight on is real time completion so if Substitute provides me with a faster, more consistent 2nd playthrough I will always use it in that circumstance. These runs are not about being the nittiest grittiest challenges. They're more about what's theoretically possible, and having fun. I like things that challenge my brain, not my patience after all. I appreciate the input! Thanks :)

I'm still catching up on your videos as I just recently found the channel, I really love the format and a gen 3 alternative to Scott!
One thing about EVs because it's hard to ignore with the Dusks: EVs give a flat bonus so if you have a really low HP stat and a really high Def stat, HP EVs are way more valuable. From my experience in competitive play I know that generally HP is preferred over Def or SpD EVs because it adds to both defenses as well as increasing Leftovers recovery, so I would suggest in general to consider buying HP Ups, or running some damage calcs to see how it works out--but in the case of Duskull, you really definitely want those over Irons.
That actually makes a lot of sense given that the EVs do provide a flat bonus. I always find myself thinking it's proportional to the base stat for some reason. Thank you for pointing this out! I've never played competitive and "needs more Atk EV" is a lot more simple than Duskull/clops. I feel I'm getting better over time with EVs/natures, but I still have plenty to learn :)
this video was so fun to watch! It's a lot of fun to watch powerful pokemon that arent necessarily the fastest. Perfect amount of suspense and "HECK YEAH GET 'IM" during the run.

Great video! Dusclops is a pretty cool Pokémon, but I’m curious about how the run could have differed if Dusknoir and the eviolite were available. Would you opt to evolve or would the benefits from eviolite outweigh the strengths of leftovers, and potentials rest/substitute?

Interesting question! I honestly thing I would have used the Eviolite and kept Dusclops. Evolving to Dusknoir gives a big boost to Attack but only marginal increases to Def, SpD, and SpA which was our primary offensive stat. The Speed might have been nice. In FireRed though, 100% Dusclops + Eviolite. Can you imagine the bulk?

If I'd used Disable on Rock Tomb he would have been forced to use Tackle or Bind, which can't hit the Ghost type. I'd considered it but we were tanky enough to not risk the 55% accuracy of Disable.

So, I'm still watching the video, but wouldn't you have been able to use Disable to completely eliminate the threat of Misty's Starmie? I feel like tanking the first Water Pulse and then shutting it down would have won that fight easily.
I had considered it. In my first playthrough I hastily removed Disable but in the second I kept it around. I guess my sticking point was the 55% accuracy of Disable. Low acc. moves scare me :)
I just happened to wonder… it would be impossible to beat the game with only an unknown. They only know one move and can’t learn any TMs or HMs. With such a limitation on moves, it would be impossible to win the game with this pokemon right?
I had to take a bit to think about this one. I'm convinced that a Round 2 finish would be impossible, but maaaaybe Round 1 could be possible? There's one way to find out :D

Eggcellent sir, Dusclops is a great Ghost, an odd one being so defensive, but awesome nonetheless, I saw you go with HP Dark, a good Special alternative to Shadow Ball. its good to have STAB when you can, but if you are leaning into the special and have Calm Mind, makes sense to go all Special when you can. I'm running a Special Nidoqueen in Leaf Green at the moment and despite the stats, it works as a Special Attacker, especially since it can have Crunch, Surf and all the game corner moves, give it a try, you'll like
I'm super excited to run both Nidos. I'm glad you mentioned her as a good special attacker. I used to run King/Queen all the time in Gen 1 as special attackers because, well, they get everything that's good! I'm looking forward to getting into other games in the future that have the physical/special split so I can actually use special Ghost moves, or physical Dark moves.
@@Eggsceptional I'd say Nidoking is the better special attacker, you'd need full special invest to get Nidoqueen to be a better special attacker. Mine is Mild nature and I avoid any battle that doesn't give Special attack or speed EV's, there's something else, you'll need to keep it as a Nidorina until level 53 in order for it to have Crunch as Nidoqueen doesn't get it via level up, you'll spend most of the run with using water pulse, shock wave, bite and dig (until you can afford Ice Beam) until you can evolve and upgrade, its a tough run, but it works, Crunch is good enough to be me to justify it, you could do test runs to see if it works better as a physical or special attacker. Nidoking is easier, just evolve Nidorino when it learns Horn Attack and it'll be epic with any moveset
@jptheflipper3825 Interesting. I've made some notes and a note to refer back to this comment thread when I decide to do those runs. I was thinking about a VS, but I think I'd rather find another "King" and "Queen" to put them up against. Or run them individually since my VS start fully evolved. Either way, thanks for the tips. I'm 90% convinced that I wouldn't have kept Nidorina until 53 otherwise lol
@@Eggsceptional starting as King and Queen for a VS wouldn't be too bad, but you lose some the moveset options, as you know stone evolutions don't really learn anything new or good after evolving. if I may suggest, evolve both at level 22. Nidorino gets horn attack and Nidorina gets bite. both are handy moves for most of the run until you get to upgrade of course. fair enough with not evolving at 53 with Nidorina, its not easy, at least Nidoqueen gets body slam at 23. I have a thought for a VS with the Nido's though, physical Nido VS special Nido, both get fairly unique physical and special sets through Fire Red runs. Rock Slide, Earthquake, shadow ball and Brick Break are good for both, same way Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam and Surf are

Yes, until either Pokémon switch out the ghost pokemon loses its fighting and normal immunity.

The Dome Fossil gives you a better pokemon for a gen 1 solo playthrough, making it the objectively correct subjective choice. Who cares that the Helix Fossil saves frames?

There's some weirdness with the National Dex in the remakes. Usually, it isn't available until the postgame. Since I'm using a Pokémon from it the game doesn't understand 😅

Having watched a couple. *cough* half of everything *cough*. I think for the move list layout, you can simplify it into 2 columns: Name and Learning Method. ex: Lv08 Tackle, TM35 Flamethrower. This should let you make it bigger and easier to see. If anything you can add a little icon to tell the move's type. Move's category, power and accuracy could be added on after when the narration need to talk about them, other than that, it's not neccessary to be shown all the time.
I really like that idea. I've been thinking about ways to optimize the movepool layout, particularly with more elements coming to it in the future. In Gen 3 I want to add the live updating components, and in Gen 4 I have a whole second screen to capture. Condensing the movepool is necessary. Thank you for the suggestion :)

I know many who are using no boost moves at all just as a last thing. That shows the real power of those Pokémon. Every Pokémon can sweep on +6 and kn combination with substitute this really doesn’t show a Pokémons power. This is just about making it easy.
I mean you are entertaining but you are destroying the fun a bit with those easy strats … this is just like double team. The thing is you are not doing this sometimes you are doing this in every video. Even with legendarys I assume. And for me this Is not challenging at all and in a substitute and sometimes then evasion and then boost ….even Scott isn’t doing that. But you are setting ivs to max aswell and all this combined i
This was an older run and admittedly I waaay overused Substitute after discovering it. I've demonstrated a few times since though that Substitute is not a cure all. I do admit to it's power though, and in recent videos I use it only as a last resort in the first playthroughs. The metric I place the most weight on is real time completion so if Substitute provides me with a faster, more consistent 2nd playthrough I will always use it in that circumstance. These runs are not about being the nittiest grittiest challenges. They're more about what's theoretically possible, and having fun. I like things that challenge my brain, not my patience after all. I appreciate the input! Thanks :)
