@@PNDKM If i played doom eternal on pc, this is how i would bind them. numbers 1-5 heavy cannon, shotgun, rocket launcher, chaingun, bfg, in that order. Ballista and supershotgun will be on the 2 buttons on the side of the mouse, and the plasma rifle will be on mouse scroll up. The reason for this is there are only a couple situations where the plasma rifle is really needed. Plus it's full auto, which you can't really quick switch with. Also, i would find it easier to quick switch with the mouse buttons on the side, rather than the middle mouse button. Grenades on f, grenade swap on mouse scroll down, flame belch r, chainsaw on q, and mod swap on c. This is coming from someone who beat doom eternal on ultra nightmare on ps4.
Dude, that shotgun/ballista bind on the mousewheel is genious. I never use the scroll for anything in most games due to it being so easily activated by mistake in a hectic fire fight, but here it makes so much sense :D Trying it out later!
So I'm still on DOOM 2016, but after watching this video and changing my bindings, I just gold starred an UV level I couldn't even pass before! Thank you!
Quickswapping is even crazier in Doom 2016. If you equip the Gauss Cannon mod that shoots the big whirling blast, you can instantly fire it by aiming down sights with another weapon, swapping to the gauss while holding right mouse button and the shooting (I think). Combining that with the Super Shotgun and Rocket Launcher lets you wipe every boss super fast
Great video amigos. Doom Eternal (and a lil diabotical) also made me realise that custom buttons are the way forward in all my FPS games going forward. I then started applying this to other games such as Quake live and tear through people very easily now! Such a small change makes a difference.
Something to add to key binds i dont see many people talk about but really helped me the most is moving my WASD movement keys over to ESDF. This frees up more keys to the left side of your hand and gives even more options. This requires moving all the other keys to the right of WASD over one key but well worth the effort. Some players like Byteme play with their keys moved over even more to RDFG and even TFGH positions. But i like to still keep keys like LShift close instead of moving over to use both Alt keys between pinky and thumb which wasn't comfortable for me.
Idk I just utilize Q for ssg, caps lock for made switch, Z chaingun, X,C for bfg and crucible, caps lock for nade switch. A new hand position is at times detrimental to the player as that's where their hand been throughout their gaming career. A good idea nonetheless, just maybe you don't really need those extra keys
I find that my ring finger has pretty bad mobility to the left, definitely not comparable to the mobility of my index finger to the right. So pressing caps lock is less comfortable than pressing F. Moving over to TFGH wouldn't give me that many more options, I guess maybe two or three extra keys that are semi-comfortable. The main downside is having to rebind all keys in every game, on the other hand using the keys further to the right gives you more room to move your mouse.
WOW!! Thank you Sir!!! Just by doing that my gameplay improved as never before!! Really I had to check if I was in Ultraviolence because it's not difficult anymore. And I'm still too clumsy at it, but even with that, my skill it's just at another level. This is a game changer. Thank you very much!!!!!!
A chainsaw is used in a high stress situation, such as when you have low health or low ammo, glory killing and chainsawing is essentially the same, as if you're low on health both result in a relatively same amount of hp drop, the only difference is one also drops ammo, so having your flame belch on a side mouse button along with the made launcher is really the best way to go, because you can belch(nade if needed depending on situation) and chainsaw. This way you get your armor, hp and ammo from one demon. If there's a couple more demons in the 10 feet vicinity you can be a little more daring to belch multiple demons, then quickly launch a nade and go for the chainsaw before the nade goes off and kills the demon you wanted to chainsaw
PSA: For those who didn't know, you don't have to go into your mouse's software to bind features to your mouse buttons, you should usually be able to just press the button in the keybindings menu just like a key on your keyboard. The opposite is true for extra buttons besides the two standard ones on the left hand side of your mouse.
this is why the dmc and doom fandom are so lovley we both have the weapon switch thing except we call it switch canceling and yes we also have a super shotgun ;)
I basically just used the controller in my early game, when I switched to the keyboard and mouse, at first it was hard then I overcame the challenge. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
I wish we could change the weapons like it was Half life 2 (Advanced settings) where pressing a key mutliple times gets you a different gun of the same school. Like 2 is the shotgun, and ssg. Press 2 twice to swap to ssg. Plasma and minigun are on 3. RocketLawnchair and Ballista on 4. Rifle on 1. etc. That way, i could save mouse keybindings like the scroll for something else that is awkward in default.
Or even like in Doom 2, where 1 is SG and SSG, 2 is machinegun and minigun, 3 is plasma and ballista, 4 is rocket and 5 is BFG and Unmaker, and even take it a step further to remember your last selection. Be neat to even segregate frag and ice nades as different equipment items like how the flamethrower uses the same launcher.
I prefer 1:1 keybinds because I'd get annoyed fast swapping to a weapon and having to cycle through the category. I like q and e for high value swaps, 1,3, and 4, for the next tier, and z,c,f,g,r, and t for less often used binds. I use that for all games generally, just depends on context for what goes where. I also always keep my favorite in your face up close gun(SSG in DooM), melee grenade, and a few other twitch use buttons on the side of my g502. Every game takes about 20 to 30 minutes to get my sensitivity, keybinds, and video settings tweaked in the very beginning, and if I find something later that has higher value I reassess and change my binds at that point. I don't like changing my binds beyond that point as whenever I change I have to acclimate myself, which usually results in a short term reduction in skill\performance.
@@CarlosElPeruacho The last few levels of DOOM Eternal forced me to optimize my keybinds. I ended up with MouseUp for ballista, MouseDown for SSG, Wheel click for combat SG, Mouse5 for flamethrower, 1 for changing, 3 for plasma, Q for machine gun, CTRL for BFG and Unmaker, CTRL for rocket and R for grenades. Might swap BFG for rocket to make the rocket more accessible and keep from accidentally switching to BFG when I don't need it.
I happen to have a Razer Naga mouse for my setup. Lemme tell you, having a built in numpad on the left side is amazing, makes weapon switching super intuitive and quick. Don't go out of your way to buy a mouse with built-in numpads, as they can be pricy, but if you have one you should definitely try using it for this.
@@riba2233 Naga Trinity is not heavy or large and perfect for FPS as well. The 12 bonus buttons may be a bit excessive for an FPS (and bad, because you don't get great hold of the mouse for fast movement), but the 7 button capsule is just perfect.
riba2233 Oh well, yeah, I guess there are smaller and lighter mice, but I mainly meant the ”for fps” part, because this is just fine for an FPS game too. Maybe it could be a bit lighter, but I wouldn’t want any smaller mouse.
i've just finished the game, i wish i saw this video earlier but man stretching to get ssg & balista slowed my movement alot. i started to get the hang of the controls after super gore nest. Definitely gonna do this when replaying to get collectibles
I have mine in a radial orientation and I feel it is objectively the superior way F - melee 1 - combat shotgun Q - ssg E - ballista R - chaingun Z- plasma X- rocket C - heavy cannon V - crucible (bfg is G but i pretty much never use it at all cause i see it as a cop out weapon) Caps - equipent switch As well as the two side buttons on the mouse dedicated to flame belch and chainsaw middle mouse for grenades I find that this configuration suits for the absolute least amount of necessity for having to move your hand at all and I'm able to have virtually complete control over my movement no matter what weapon i am quickswitching. Q and E for the ssg ballista is a game changer and allows you to pump out an obscene amount of damage as fast as humanly possible from my experience
Always take advantage of the mouse so that your left hand isn’t forced to perform too many actions; while the left hand handles movement and tertiary weapons, the right hand should handle the brunt of the combat. In addition to FIRE and weapon mod on left and right buttons, I use wheelup for the rocket launcher, wheeldown for ballista, press the mouse wheel for flame belch, mouse 4 for chainsaw, and mouse 5 to toggle equipment.
for me personally, i have very fat hands and are able to use the muscle at the bottom of my thumb to press many buttons such as z, x, c, v. this trick helped me so much as i normal leave these keys unbinded because i always press them by accident but now i can take advantage of this. once i binded them the furthest i have to travel now is to G which has made quick switching a breeze
Wow, this video alone took me from struggling with two tyrants to shredding them in seconds while replenishing my armor without lifting a single WASD finger. I feel twice as deadly, and infinitely more comfortable. Thanks!
Dude I was getting filtered on nightmare difficulty up until I saw this video and set my weapon keybinds how you suggested. It helped soooooo much! Now I'm literally running through this game on nightmare. You're an absolute legend!
@@PNDKM yeah I'm a console player myself when I saw that they had custom control schemes in Eternal it actually gave me the confidence to attempt nightmare just beat the game a couple days ago on that difficulty My melee is on the B button My Dash is on the right stick My quickswitch / weapon wheel is the right bumper My jump is the left bumper As my grenade usage is the left stick
Took me a while to figure out how I wanted to do it for me on my game. I have the G502 X Plus: -x2 buttons located on the LMB Button 1 Combat Shotgun, Button 2 Heavy Cannon | -MB4 Rocket Launcher MB5 Plasma -DPI Shift Button SSG -Scroll up Ballista -Scroll Down Chaingun -MMB Equipment Swap *BFG is on my G key lol* With all that said definitely take your time and find what works for you like was said in the vid!
Thanks for putting this into a video. First playthrough I got frustrated with the game because of how many different things you have to keep in mind. After binding my most used weapons to 1-5, it got much better. I already use my mouse wheel for grenade, but you've given me the idea to use the mouse wheel as the equipment hub, thx again.
The custom scroll wheel binding is genius! Never even thought about using dedicated weapon buttons because I never use the numbers on my keyboard, but the scroll wheel makes perfect sense. For myself, I made switching weapons/weapon wheel the middle mouse button because the scroll wheel is already used for weapons. This allows you to quick switch between your current and previous weapon while maintaining full mobility. Next, I made flame belch mouse button 5, since glory kill was already mouse button 4, health and ammo resources go hand-in hand. Crucible is now C as it starts with that letter and isn't used nearly as often as chainsaw. I switched chainsaw from C to R because it's basically reloading in this game and therefore easier to remember. Switching attachments is now F, since I do this a lot and the button is easy to reach. Switch grenade is G, as again it's starts with that letter and is easier to remember. Launching grenades is control, as there's no crouch in this game and I need to be able to launch grenades while having enough fingers available to move and jump at the same time. Also, I realized you can grapple enemies even while the super-shotgun is out of ammo. I find myself using it often in combination with the chainsaw so I can get ammo even faster, and so I can basically spam the shotgun indefinitely with maxed-out ammo upgrades.
I use a Roccat Leadr mouse which has quite a few buttons on it. I use nearly all of them for weapon switching in order to reduce the workload of my left hand in order to keep my fingers on the movement keys as much as possible. Really helps you to stay mobile in a firefight when you dont have to stop moving in one direction or another to switch weapons. I actually ordered a fragpedal dual so I can move my equipment switching and usage to my feet so I can pretty much spam grenades while moving/shooting without taking my fingers off any other controls
TLDR: These are the binds I got from the doom subreddit that is optimized for not hindering movement. TFGH for movement, this opens up more of the left side of the keyboard. Space for jump N for chainsaw M for crucible rAlt for flame belch (These keys are all easily accessible for the thumb) lAlt for nades X for combat shotgun Z for plasma rifle S for Heavy cannon C for chain gun A for BFG/Unmakyr (These keys are accessed with the pinky) R or Y for Rocket Launcher E or U for Ballista D or J for Super Shotgun (This symmetrical setup allows you to select these weapons regardless of which way you're moving. When you're moving left you can always use your index finger to access the three buttons to the right, and vice versa) Scroll up for nade swapping Scroll down for mod swapping Mouse button 5 for dashing Mouse button 4 for melee
Very interesting. Never actually thought of double-binding anything ever but it seems pretty smart, always hated that sometimes you have to let go of movement keys to do something in fps.
I'm using keys to allow me to move while switching weapons, and i try to distribute related actions across both hands. I will admit that these configurations definitely take some getting used to, but I finally succeeded in getting the controls out of my way. I've gone through so many configurations, but using the infinite lives cheat on Exultia lets you get accustomed to anything. -- keyboard -- LEFT RING FINGER W: strafe left S: strafe right LEFT MIDDLE FINGER E: walk forward D: walk backward LEFT PINKY Tab: switch weapon mod Caps Lock: switch equipment Left Shift: flame belch Z: plasma rifle A: ballista Q: rocket launcher LEFT POINTER FINGER F: combat shotgun R: double-barrel shotgun G: heavy cannon T: chain gun V: bfg 9000 B: crucible LEFT THUMB Spacebar: use weapon mod RIGHT THUMB Mouse 4: jump Mouse 5: dash RIGHT POINTER FINGER Mouse Left: fire weapon Mouse Wheel Up: melee Mouse Wheel Down: chainsaw RIGHT MIDDLE FINGER Mouse Right: equipment launcher -- controller -- LEFT MIDDLE FINGER Left Trigger: jump LEFT POINTER FINGER Left Bumper: use weapon mod (on a playstation controller, i would assign d-pad up to switch weapon mods, and I would also access the crucible with d-pad right) LEFT THUMB Left Stick: movement L3: dash RIGHT RING FINGER Right Trigger: fire weapon RIGHT MIDDLE FINGER Right Bumper: weapon wheel (minimum weapon wheel open delay) RIGHT POINTER FINGER Top Face Button: flame belch Left Face Button: equipment launcher Right Face Button: switch equipment Bottom Face Button: chainsaw RIGHT THUMB Right Stick: aim R3: melee D-Pad Right: switch weapon mod (for xbox and switch controllers) D-Pad Down: crucible (for xbox and switch controllers)
I use a G502 mouse which has two thumb buttons very much like yours and I use them for glory kill/blood punch and chainsaw.It's probably more oriented towards the campaign than battlemode compared to yours,but it's very comfortable to have those things quite litterally under your thumb at all times As for Ballista and SSG on mousewheel,that's a great idea I'm totally gonna steal from you,I'm comfortable with buttons all the way up to 8 but quick access to those two weapons can be a life or death situation,thanks for the idea
Setting up those thumb buttons is definitely the way to go. I also use the "DPI switch" button for the flame belcher. Sadly the two extra buttons, DPI up/down, are mostly a waste - at least on my G402 - because pressing them accurately in the heat of the battle is very cumbersome. I'm not sure if they are more usable on the G502, but I wish Logitech makes them proper buttons at some point. Personally I have zero need to switch DPI settings on the fly, however, many games would definitely benefit from more mouse buttons.
@@DisgruntledDoomer Yeah I never really change my DPI either,I'm comfortable with what I have and in game sensitivity settings are more than enough for me
i kept the grenade swap on the mouse wheel, grenade and belch o n the extra mouse buttons (just in the opposite order on this video) and super shotgun is R, ballista is F and chaingun is Z
Didn't even thing about the mouse-scroll! I'll definetly implement that one My personall alterations are Punch/ Glorykill/ Use - V (find it weird to meele with e) Crucible - B Chainsaw - C (might be the default) --> that way I got all my meele stuff in one place Flamebelch - R (might be default too, dunno) Equiptment use - Mousewheel (I kinda just use it, it feels good for me) Equitmentswap - Q Weaponswap - Ctrl BFG - E for Emergency (also because that key ended up free, because Use is on Punch) I might switch Equiptmentswap back to Ctrl and use Q for weaponswap, since I started using quickswap much more
Do you have buttons on the side of your mouse for your thumb? I use 2 of those for the flame belch and grenade launcher, Caps Lock to switch grenade type. I put SSG on Q as it is my most used gun which also has the hook which increases my mobility so I want that always at hand, Ballista is on 5, which is a bit awkward for me to reach so I might change it to R, oh also try using your mouse wheel click bind for the chainsaw, so all your utility is on the mouse. Z for chaingun, X for bfg and C for crucible, E is left as use/glory kill/bloodpunch, as blood punch is incredibly useful, being able to kill pinkies in one punch and bloodpunch+SSG shot on a mancubus kills/staggers him
Oh btw, you might not even want to change mods on your weapons, sticky bombs(shotgun), bolt(heavy canon), heat blast(plasma rifle), lock on(rocket launcher), arbalest(ballista) and obviously the turret for your chaingun(because only p**sy Marauder's use shields)
How do you get the perfectly centered dot for your aim? I dont have it on mine, and I dont see it on other videos. It makes it easier though to have that like that.
I'd recommend getting a mouse with a numpad on the side of it where your thumb rests. I use the Logitech G600. Good price and comes with a G-shift function for even more options.
My weapon keybinds: Combat Shotgun: 1 Heavy Cannon: 2 Plasma Rifle: 3 Rocket Launcher: Z Super Shotgun: mouse side button Chaingun: mouse side button BFG/Unmaykr: B Crucuble/Sentinel Hammer: V Flame Belch: R Equipment Launcher: LControl Toggle frah grenade or ice bomb: G Chainsaw: C Previous weapon/weapon wheel: Q
i use RDFG and put all my weapons to the left, such that A - Assault rifle S - Shotty Q - Chaingun (above rifle, "super" assault) W - Super shotty (above shotty) Z - Rockets X - Plasma E - Ballista (next to SS and also lines up above plasma) 4 - BFG, because it's out of the way but still easy to reach T - Use equipment H - Swap equipment Y - Swap mod V - Chainsaw B - Flame [b]elch N - Quickswap / weapon wheel Shift - Crucible Mouse "back" button - dash Mouse "forward" button - melee / use I have a logitech M705 and the scroll wheel also clicks left & right, but for some reason DOOM Eternal doesn't recognize these buttons at all ;~; I'll give a thought to dedicating some weapons to the scroll wheel though, although you also did mention that Rockets / SS / Ballista are right in a row there. I usually don't use the scroll wheel at all (I have chainsaw on Mouse 3 but I usually use V now, cus I can quickly hit B+V to flame & chainsaw mobs). I'll give some thought to either binding custom weapons on the wheel, or practicing switching through those 3 weapons by selecting SS and going up and down all over town and see how it works out. Since i've made these keybindings, Ultra-Violence seems too easy and I'm just ready to finish the campaign so i can start over again on nightmare. Gotta get that gold armor eventually
When I got the Rocket Launcher and it was in 4 I hated it and switched it as soon as I got my hands on the SSG. I also put the Ballista and Chaingun in Z and X, but the mouse wheel and buttons are great ideas too! For equip swap I use Alt or G, never had a problem with most default bindings really
Ballsita/shotgun trick is good! thanks. but I'd like to remind people the mouse wheel button is by default bind to use equipment (grenades). So you have another lateral button free.
Never thought about the mouse wheel, i' ve got the ballista and rocket in the mouse keys but I wish I had one more for the super shotgun and now I have one, thank you that's pretty cool
Doom is one of those high twitch reaction speed games that practically NEEDS to be played on PC. I'm not gonna go full master race on ya, because a gamepad is nice, and sometimes better than mouse and keyboard for many games. It's just not suited for FPS or RTS, where mouse aim and click drag and the large number of keys available simply make more sense
@@armorhide406 I'm a pc player but I saw a guy called smv2 or something like that playing on console, and he beat it on ultra nightmare and is better than most pc players
**Cries in scroll wheel abuse.** In all seriousness I use the scroll wheel a lot in all of the games that make use of it, and since I have a mouse with a friction lock I can easily swap between ridiculous scrolling and precision. Since Eternal has an integrated "list" that the scroll wheel goes through one by one, it becomes paramount to know that the supershotgun sits right in between the Ballista and Rocket Launcher. It becomes ridiculously easy to spam those three with the default scroll wheel settings, and only a little tweaking really feels necessary to get to Supershotgun faster.
i use mouse wheel down for flsme and up for mod swap one thumb key from rocket and equipment for the other. My mouse has 3 buddtons so I swap ewuipments on the mouse too
What that's identical to my key bindings, I use mwheelup for supershotgun and Mwheeldown for ballista and the only difference is I use Q for chaingun and 5 for bfg , I'm pretty much enjoying this config. I completed the game in nightmare mode though I died a lot in the game.
shotguns on both my side mouse buttons - mouse wheel up rocket launcher mouse down ballista. the rest are default for me koz when i use them i just find them not usually struggling to hit them.
Hmm. I might give it a shot. I play Quake 3 on a laptop because I find it fun to be weird, and I have bound the bfg to Alt to not have to worry about swapping back to it, and Zoom to Shift because it's a lot easier to hit Shift than to right-click on a track pad.
So im trying for ultra nightmare, but I seem to be missing something, im happy with the keybinds I have and am familiar with weapon switching In what way do you move about the arenas in the campaign? Which demons are priority targets for you and what weapons do you prefer to use against them? What suit upgrade path do you choose? It's difficult to find out what im doing wrong ;-;
@@thepope2412 ultranightmare, I have every other campaign achievement completed and beat the game twice on nightmare I think I got most of it down, I just cant figure out where im going wrong Maybe im not memorizing enemy spawns well enough? idk
Mancubi, cacos and barons. Mancubi are just really fun to fight, cacos do a surprising amount of damage super quickly and barons run you down until you take care of them. My go-to combo is blood punch, heat blast and SSG.
I wonder if people with MMO Mice have it easier since all buttons can be binded to thumb buttons. Like the Razer Naga or Corsair Scimitar or the Logitech G600
I use "1" for SSG, "2" for Ballista, "3" for rocket launcher, an "4" for chaingun, and I barely use the others. Just BFG, which has low enough ammo count and usage that I will pull it up with weapon switcher. I have melee/glorykill/bloodpunch set to mouse 4, and I have the same mouse, a razer basilisk, and mouse 5 is currently unused, but I should probably rebind chainsaw to there. The extra button that you mysteriously did not mention on the basilisk, which functions as an easier to hold, length adjustable lever, designed to be pressed with the thumb, functions as push to talk. I still have "R" as flame belch, LCTRL as grenade. V as crucible.
I hope that someone makes a collection of setups for keybindings put into a big video with keyframing. It would mean a lot to me due to most people on youtube using keybinds that are not really fit for me lmao
I have the same mouse (love it) and nearly the same bindings lol 😂 I didn't even think to use scroll up/down for a single weapon! I actually turned it off to try and work on quick switching. I'm new to PC. I had put Super Shotgun on LALT, Balista on V and BFG at B. I'm definitely gonna use those scroll wheel binds now though thanks man!!
Honestly I don't have a problem with this, because I have this neat mouse by utech that has numbers on the side of it. I can easily just switch weapons using my thumb and honestly it's so easy to hot swap with it. I recommend trying one. It makes games like DOOM with constant number key spamming alot easier
I use a mouse with a numpad on the left side, and have grenade switch on my alt key, and fire on the mousewheel press. Left control is too weird for my fingers to try and hit. I also love comboing with flame belch, into ice grenade, then frag grenade. Clears all the small fry while i dump big damage on heavy enemies.
I have never used my finger to press control, as it is on the corner of your keyboard you can just use a part of your palm without moving your fingers at all
I've played the campaign twice already and have platinum the game on PS4. Really wish it supported MNK on console as I can never be as good as I could be if I was on PC.
I might try the mousewheel stuff, but it doesn't feel right for me as of now. I don't use the weaponwheel anyway, so I have the Ballista on Q, where I had the railgun in quake as well and the ballista here is mostly used like the railgun anyway), put the railgun on z/y and swapped the equipment and weapon mod change, as I use equipment change way more and rarely use weapon mod change.
I recognize this is an older video, but hopefully you still read the comments - how do you handle quick switching and firing when the SSG and Ballista are on the mousewheel? I find going back and forth from mousewheel to LMB rapidly is difficult. Do you use your middle finger for mousewheel, do you use Q to swap, is it just a matter of practicing?
Mine is like: 1- Super Shotgun 2-Ballista 3-Chaingun 4- Rocket Launcher 5- Plasma Rifle and the others in last 5. I reccomend you to fo this after u get each of these guns. İt makes gameplay much easier for me. Useless information:That was the exact same binding in 2016 ı used.
Same. I've put melee on the mouse for so long that it's the first thing I do when I install a new shooter. (Though some games, like Apex, I pur crouch there instead)
The problem I have is being able to move diagonally whilst quick switching. Movement is so important in this game, so when I'm going for Q,E,2,3,Z I can't for example strafe left and press Z at the the same time. Can someone tell me if the way using my keyboard is wrong? Because I see a lot of good players like yourself, byte me, draqu, etc using keys like 2,3,4,5 and x and stuff while it looks like they have control of their movement too? I just don't understand and really want to know. Thanks for the video btw.
Use your thumb to press ZXCV, pinkie and ring finger may alternate positions (pinkie goes to press A as you move your ring finger from A to whatever needed, it's all practice and how well you can move your fingers
Some binds 1 Combat Shotgun 2 Supershotgun 3 Ballista 4 Rocket Launcher 5 Heavy Cannon 6 Plasma Rifle C Chaingun B BFG / Unmaykr Mouse 5 Equipment Launcher Mouse 4 Equipment Switch Q Mod Switch F Chainsaw And that's pretty much all I changed. Tell me what I can change.
Amateur layout (me): -1 to 4 unchanged; -BFG to caps for not get wrong to get it; -Never using Weapon wheel nor Q (Quick swap); -Instead, I bound Quick Swap to Down Scroll on mouse because sometimes it seems I hold Q too much then breaks the flow; -Super Shotgun at AltLeft; -Balista at Up Scroll on Mouse; -Rocket Launcher at Mouse Button 4 (lateral); -Chainsaw at Mouse Button 5 (lateral) (the nearest); -Launch Equipment (Frag or Freeze) at Mouse Button 3 (the wheel button, to be clear); -Flame Belch still R; -Swap W. I do the same thing in quake Champions. I'm not that good at QC even though I've played since before launch, but the bindings go a long way.
Change your FOV to 110 from the default 90, and try running around then, it changes EVERYTHING
I've started doing this as well after watching the stream playthrough. Binding chainsaw to mouse wheel click has helped immensely as well.
That SSG/Ballista mousewheel binding helps me a lot! Thanks!
This makes it much easier! I was trying to find a good keybindings setup. What makes it better is that I have the same mouse as you!
Hellyeah!
this is why the dmc and doom fandom are so lovley
we both have the weapon switch thing
except we call it switch canceling
and yes we also have a super shotgun ;)
I basically just used the controller in my early game, when I switched to the keyboard and mouse, at first it was hard then I overcame the challenge.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
your tips on quickswitching are really helpful, helped me win my first match as a slayer!
Hellyeah! Well done 👊
And make it customizable! I think having both shotguns, plasma guns, machineguns on the same buttons would be better for example
@@kevgmei honestly having equipment binds on your mouse and nade switch bound to caps lock is just better
Too bad they are to heavy and large for fps.
@@riba2233 Naga Trinity is not heavy or large and perfect for FPS as well. The 12 bonus buttons may be a bit excessive for an FPS (and bad, because you don't get great hold of the mouse for fast movement), but the 7 button capsule is just perfect.
@@rahko_i nope, not correct. You should really use small and light mouse for good aiming and twitching (less than 80 grams)
riba2233 Oh well, yeah, I guess there are smaller and lighter mice, but I mainly meant the ”for fps” part, because this is just fine for an FPS game too. Maybe it could be a bit lighter, but I wouldn’t want any smaller mouse.
I have a Razer Deathadder Chroma with two extra button. I'll definitely check out the Naga Trinity, more buttons the better.
i've just finished the game, i wish i saw this video earlier but man stretching to get ssg & balista slowed my movement alot. i started to get the hang of the controls after super gore nest. Definitely gonna do this when replaying to get collectibles
I have mine in a radial orientation and I feel it is objectively the superior way
F - melee
1 - combat shotgun
Q - ssg
E - ballista
R - chaingun
Z- plasma
X- rocket
C - heavy cannon
V - crucible
(bfg is G but i pretty much never use it at all cause i see it as a cop out weapon)
Caps - equipent switch
As well as the two side buttons on the mouse dedicated to flame belch and chainsaw
middle mouse for grenades
I find that this configuration suits for the absolute least amount of necessity for having to move your hand at all and I'm able to have virtually complete control over my movement no matter what weapon i am quickswitching.
Q and E for the ssg ballista is a game changer and allows you to pump out an obscene amount of damage as fast as humanly possible from my experience
Thanks for the bind i was just finding this type of bind in which you don't have to move your finger much further .Thanks dude
The mousewheel up/down for a specific weapon is a great idea. Thanks !
Wow, this video alone took me from struggling with two tyrants to shredding them in seconds while replenishing my armor without lifting a single WASD finger. I feel twice as deadly, and infinitely more comfortable. Thanks!
Thanks for posting your binds. I'm working on getting rid of the mouse wheel habit but never knew which buttons would be good replacements
Dude I was getting filtered on nightmare difficulty up until I saw this video and set my weapon keybinds how you suggested. It helped soooooo much! Now I'm literally running through this game on nightmare. You're an absolute legend!

My Dash is on the right stick

My jump is the left bumper

Took me a while to figure out how I wanted to do it for me on my game. I have the G502 X Plus:
-x2 buttons located on the LMB Button 1 Combat Shotgun, Button 2 Heavy Cannon |
-MB4 Rocket Launcher MB5 Plasma
-DPI Shift Button SSG
-Scroll up Ballista
-Scroll Down Chaingun
-MMB Equipment Swap
*BFG is on my G key lol*
With all that said definitely take your time and find what works for you like was said in the vid!
thank you man it realy changed my gameplay
I found the mouse wheel idea to be very useful! Thanks!
TLDR: These are the binds I got from the doom subreddit that is optimized for not hindering movement.
TFGH for movement, this opens up more of the left side of the keyboard.
Space for jump
N for chainsaw
M for crucible
rAlt for flame belch
(These keys are all easily accessible for the thumb)
lAlt for nades
X for combat shotgun
Z for plasma rifle
S for Heavy cannon
C for chain gun
A for BFG/Unmakyr
(These keys are accessed with the pinky)
R or Y for Rocket Launcher
E or U for Ballista
D or J for Super Shotgun
(This symmetrical setup allows you to select these weapons regardless of which way you're moving.
When you're moving left you can always use your index finger to access the three buttons to the right, and vice versa)
Scroll up for nade swapping
Scroll down for mod swapping
Mouse button 5 for dashing
Mouse button 4 for melee
Very interesting. Never actually thought of double-binding anything ever but it seems pretty smart, always hated that sometimes you have to let go of movement keys to do something in fps.
4:20 - I have exact the same mouse, but I didn't realized I can assign those buttons!
I loved your weapon bindings... But i changed super shotgun and ballista to caps lock and mouse side buttom (because of i used to use them like that)
I'm using keys to allow me to move while switching weapons, and i try to distribute related actions across both hands.
I will admit that these configurations definitely take some getting used to, but I finally succeeded in getting the controls out of my way.
I've gone through so many configurations, but using the infinite lives cheat on Exultia lets you get accustomed to anything.

I use a G502 mouse which has two thumb buttons very much like yours and I use them for glory kill/blood punch and chainsaw.It's probably more oriented towards the campaign than battlemode compared to yours,but it's very comfortable to have those things quite litterally under your thumb at all times
As for Ballista and SSG on mousewheel,that's a great idea I'm totally gonna steal from you,I'm comfortable with buttons all the way up to 8 but quick access to those two weapons can be a life or death situation,thanks for the idea
@@DisgruntledDoomer Yeah I never really change my DPI either,I'm comfortable with what I have and in game sensitivity settings are more than enough for me
pro tip - you can reasign the dpi buttons as well as they are usually dead weight if you remap them in your mousedriver
Flamethrower - mouse wheel up
Grenade - mouse wheel down
Chainsaw - klick mouse wheel
Punch - thumb button 1
Dash - thumb button 2
i kept the grenade swap on the mouse wheel, grenade and belch o n the extra mouse buttons (just in the opposite order on this video) and super shotgun is R, ballista is F and chaingun is Z
Didn't even thing about the mouse-scroll! I'll definetly implement that one
My personall alterations are
Punch/ Glorykill/ Use - V (find it weird to meele with e)
Crucible - B
Chainsaw - C (might be the default)
--> that way I got all my meele stuff in one place
Flamebelch - R (might be default too, dunno)
Equiptment use - Mousewheel (I kinda just use it, it feels good for me)
Equitmentswap - Q
Weaponswap - Ctrl
BFG - E for Emergency (also because that key ended up free, because Use is on Punch)
I might switch Equiptmentswap back to Ctrl and use Q for weaponswap, since I started using quickswap much more
Do you have buttons on the side of your mouse for your thumb?
I use the razer naga trinity... perfect mouse for these type of games. All weapons can be bound to your mouse alone.
How do you get the perfectly centered dot for your aim? I dont have it on mine, and I dont see it on other videos. It makes it easier though to have that like that.
I'd recommend getting a mouse with a numpad on the side of it where your thumb rests. I use the Logitech G600. Good price and comes with a G-shift function for even more options.
that moment when an FPS benefits from an MMO mouse feature haha... but for real tho, the razer naga is tge same way and its like night and day
My weapon keybinds:
Combat Shotgun: 1
Heavy Cannon: 2
Plasma Rifle: 3
Rocket Launcher: Z
Super Shotgun: mouse side button
Chaingun: mouse side button
BFG/Unmaykr: B
Crucuble/Sentinel Hammer: V
Flame Belch: R
Equipment Launcher: LControl
Toggle frah grenade or ice bomb: G
Chainsaw: C
Previous weapon/weapon wheel: Q
i use RDFG and put all my weapons to the left, such that
A - Assault rifle
S - Shotty
Q - Chaingun (above rifle, "super" assault)
W - Super shotty (above shotty)
Z - Rockets
X - Plasma
E - Ballista (next to SS and also lines up above plasma)
4 - BFG, because it's out of the way but still easy to reach
T - Use equipment
H - Swap equipment
Y - Swap mod
V - Chainsaw
B - Flame [b]elch
N - Quickswap / weapon wheel
Shift - Crucible
Mouse "back" button - dash
Mouse "forward" button - melee / use
I have a logitech M705 and the scroll wheel also clicks left & right, but for some reason DOOM Eternal doesn't recognize these buttons at all ;~;
I'll give a thought to dedicating some weapons to the scroll wheel though, although you also did mention that Rockets / SS / Ballista are right in a row there.
OMG, I hated the flame belch and equipment being far and put it on my mouse buttons, thought i was the only one!
Beat Eternal with a Basilisk, as well. Totally didn't realize I didn't use the scroll wheel, absolutely doing this
I noticed you didn't mention where you bound the BFG?
I am very creative with my binds but i still need to implement them in the muscle memory

**Cries in scroll wheel abuse.**
In all seriousness I use the scroll wheel a lot in all of the games that make use of it, and since I have a mouse with a friction lock I can easily swap between ridiculous scrolling and precision.
Ok
Great video! Very informative.
i use mouse wheel down for flsme and up for mod swap one thumb key from rocket and equipment for the other.
I completed the game in nightmare mode though I died a lot in the game.
i have always done it ever since serious sam games. too many weapons to switch through so i had to put keys nearer.
Wow thanks Im getting Eternal this month also I only have a mouse with 3 buttons the middle the left and the right any tips?
My G602 - finally it is being used to full potential!

the rest are default for me koz when i use them i just find them not usually struggling to hit them.
I use the roccat nyth, this gives you even more options to bind keys to the mouse.
I am using exact the same mouse and the exact same key bindings. But I play Piano and can stretch my fingers very well. But at 5 I stop as well.
Hmm. I might give it a shot. I play Quake 3 on a laptop because I find it fun to be weird, and I have bound the bfg to Alt to not have to worry about swapping back to it, and Zoom to Shift because it's a lot easier to hit Shift than to right-click on a track pad.

So im trying for ultra nightmare, but I seem to be missing something, im happy with the keybinds I have and am familiar with weapon switching
In what way do you move about the arenas in the campaign? Which demons are priority targets for you and what weapons do you prefer to use against them? What suit upgrade path do you choose?
It's difficult to find out what im doing wrong ;-;

They have more buttons, but do they have as much grip is the question
You can keep the weapons on the number buttons if you use Logitech G600 plus bind other weapons there too as well as the flame belch.
Bind your chainsaw to the scroll wheel click.
Here is my setup:
1- rocket launcher
2- super shotgun
3 -balista
4- chaingun
5- BFG
Q - combat shotgun
Z - heavy canon
X - plasma rifle
i can tap the mouse wheel to the left & right. i would bind this but it dosnt work...
This was helpful, even though I play on the PS4, thank you!
When I try to bind shotgun and ballista to scroll wheel up and down, it wont work :( Any fix?
I use a mouse with a numpad on the left side, and have grenade switch on my alt key, and fire on the mousewheel press. Left control is too weird for my fingers to try and hit.
I also love comboing with flame belch, into ice grenade, then frag grenade. Clears all the small fry while i dump big damage on heavy enemies.
I have never used my finger to press control, as it is on the corner of your keyboard you can just use a part of your palm without moving your fingers at all
My binds:
Scroll Up - Flame Belch
Scroll Down - Glory Kill
Super Shotgun - Q
Ballista - E
I've played the campaign twice already and have platinum the game on PS4. Really wish it supported MNK on console as I can never be as good as I could be if I was on PC.
I see you prefer the old school weapon positioning.
I might try the mousewheel stuff, but it doesn't feel right for me as of now. I don't use the weaponwheel anyway, so I have the Ballista on Q, where I had the railgun in quake as well and the ballista here is mostly used like the railgun anyway), put the railgun on z/y and swapped the equipment and weapon mod change, as I use equipment change way more and rarely use weapon mod change.
so HOW do you set keybinds?
Nice informative video. What FOV are you using?
what graphics settings is that rendering is so crisp
If anyone's played Overwatch, I changed Zenyatta's discord and harmony orbs to mouse scroll up and down and it was life changing.
I think your key bindings are pretty good, but what I might do is bind my equipment swap to my scroll wheel.
Mine is like:
1- Super Shotgun
2-Ballista
3-Chaingun
4- Rocket Launcher
5- Plasma Rifle and the others in last 5.
I reccomend you to fo this after u get each of these guns. İt makes gameplay much easier for me.
Useless information:That was the exact same binding in 2016 ı used.
I use melee and grenade on the side mouse buttons, since I'm meleeing so much.
Use your thumb to press ZXCV, pinkie and ring finger may alternate positions (pinkie goes to press A as you move your ring finger from A to whatever needed, it's all practice and how well you can move your fingers
how do you get the dot as a crosshair?
In settings
Some binds
1 Combat Shotgun
2 Supershotgun
3 Ballista
4 Rocket Launcher
5 Heavy Cannon
6 Plasma Rifle
C Chaingun
B BFG / Unmaykr
Mouse 5 Equipment Launcher
Mouse 4 Equipment Switch
Q Mod Switch
F Chainsaw
And that's pretty much all I changed.
Tell me what I can change.
so where do you put the bfg?
i use a razer tartarus v2 and a naga hex, so i have all that stuff covered
Amateur layout (me):
-1 to 4 unchanged;
-BFG to caps for not get wrong to get it;
-Never using Weapon wheel nor Q (Quick swap);
-Instead, I bound Quick Swap to Down Scroll on mouse because sometimes it seems I hold Q too much then breaks the flow;
-Super Shotgun at AltLeft;
-Balista at Up Scroll on Mouse;
-Rocket Launcher at Mouse Button 4 (lateral);
-Chainsaw at Mouse Button 5 (lateral) (the nearest);
-Launch Equipment (Frag or Freeze) at Mouse Button 3 (the wheel button, to be clear);
-Flame Belch still R;
-Swap W. Mod still F;
-Swap Equipment Ctrl Left;
-Machinegun at X;
-I still unconfortable at using V for the Crucible, but like the BFG I won't swap to it accidentally;
-Oh, and C for Mission Objectives;
I like to Quick Swap between Super Shotgun and Balista OR Rocket Launcher and Balista, that's why I put them on particular buttons.
Skip to 3:15 to hear the bindings and avoid all the bullshit talking.
Can I play Doom with a mouse and keyboard on Xbox?????
