Zagreb is the capital and largest city of Croatia. It is in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Zagreb lies at an elevation of approximately 122 m (400 ft) above sea level. The population of the city in 2021 was 769,944. The population of the Zagreb urban agglomeration is 1,071,150, approximately a quarter of the total population of Croatia.
Zagreb is a city with a rich history dating from Roman times. The oldest settlement in the vicinity of the city was the Roman Andautonia, in today's Ščitarjevo.
The city extends over 30 kilometres (19 miles) east-west and around 20 kilometres (12 miles) north-south. Zagreb is considered a global city with a Beta-rating from the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.
The transport connections, concentration of industry, scientific, and research institutions and industrial tradition underlie its leading economic position in Croatia. Zagreb is the seat of the central government, administrative bodies, and almost all government ministries. Almost all of the largest Croatian companies, media, and scientific institutions have their headquarters in the city. Zagreb is the most important transport hub in Croatia where Central Europe, the Mediterranean and Southeast Europe meet, making the Zagreb area the centre of the road, rail and air networks of Croatia. It is a city known for its diverse economy, high quality of living, museums, sporting, and entertainment events. Its main branches of economy are high-tech industries and the service sector.

Looks like you pulled out of the Westin Hotel parking lot in Zagreb.
I stayed there a number of times few years ago when it was run by another chain - can't remember who, though.
    How is it now?
    Was pretty good then.
Driven that Savska Ulica many times.
Wow, so you were pretty well all over Croatia, my home. I'm now in Canada.
You probably drove through Slunj, my birth place and Rastoke after leaving Plitvice.
I lived there as a kid many, many years ago.
    You lucky bastard, haha!!!!
Next time you go there, hit Opatija and Rovinj...Rovinj is my favourite place in Croatia. Even better than Dubrovnik
in my opinion. Loved Zadar too. Wife (Canadian girl) and I used to drive from Slunj to Zadar on many weekends
just to be there for a day.
Agree about driving there. The scenery is awesome, and the coastal road far surpasses any Corniche in Cote d'Azure as
well as the Pacific Coast Highway in California.
I'm not a super high fan of Zagreb - it's OK I guess (local people are snobs - equivalent to New Yorkers for Americans), but it's close enough to the coast as well as Vienna and Budapest.
Those two places are winners in my book!
    Thank you for the video.
    Nick

      Hi Nick, spot on 👍😊
It’s still a great hotel. I definitely enjoyed my trip to Croatia. Got to see a lot of places, unfortunately not Rovinj. Will share more driving videos over the coming weeks and months

After Croatia joined the Schengen, do these borders still exist and do they ask for passports?

    • @J-Drives
      @J-Drives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I doubt they will. The Schengen borders tend to be open but they sometimes still do controls here and there. At least it happened to me between Austria and Germany once

@@J-Drives Border stops are gone, the traffic police does random controls more often along the border as a compensatory measure.

Well no, that's the whole point of being a Schengen member. You just drive through now.
