    Just learning chasing and repousse in my metalsmithing class. As part of the project we were instructed to make tools. I made 8 (2 lining, 2 pushing, 2 planishing, 1 undercut and 1 curved liner) and though my tools look reasonably good for a first attempt, I have not been happy with their performance and they left me frustrated. In class we have one set of Ms. Lansford's tools referenced in the video. OMG! Using her tools has made all the difference in both my enjoyment and success, so much so that I purchase a slightly used set (sorry I could not afford a new set). Ms. Landsford has taken care to design what do seem like the only 8 tools one would need. They are an invaluable set of tools, I just wish they were a bit more affordable for students and others who are just learning chasing and repousse techniques.

    You said when you work from the front, you work on pitch. What is pitch?

    • @RioGrande1944
      @RioGrande1944  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pitch is a natural resin that can be melted with low heat. It will hold the piece in place while you’re chasing, and the pitch has a certain amount of “give” to it so you can create more voluminous areas on your metal without remelting the pitch.

    can these be used on rings to achieved that hammer textured ring band look or do you have another similar tool other than a hammer? i make rings with delicate and unique shapes that need a hammer texture in certain areas only.. using a hammer is too big for tight corners etc.

      Hello There! Yes, repoussé tools would be the best for achieving a hammered finish on specific areas of your rings since they can get into tight areas very easily. Those tools and more can be viewed here: ow.ly/avdR309UsYW Hope this helps!
