Thanks for the vid. The cup holders are poorly designed and if you put AirPods in there they get in through the the holes and there is no way to retrieve them except to dismantle the centre console. . I’d two AirPods for my daughters stuck in the console for more than a year and Mazda wanted to charge $500 to put it apart. Thanks for posting this vid, it helped me with the DIY.
@@mattkn4edg the steps to do it aren’t as bad as they look thankfully. When you are done, make sure to check the shifter button a few times. For me, the button kept slipping out of the shifter at bad times. Finally had to use my phone front camera with a flashlight to make sure I was doing it right
@ 4:08 alternatively, put the pin into the handle first and then push the hand into place. I just realised that the metal part of the gearstick has bevels to allow slotting the handle with the pin in place and it locks in perfectly.
It doesn’t have to be on, but to put it on Neutral (assuming you have an automatic transmission), you have to turn the ignition on and put it on N and then switch it back off.
@@XLTLuisX is there a better awnser than pull really hard but dont break lol? did you use anything to unhinge the clips or did you just get lucky pulling up?

It ate my quarters for air this morning.
Is it necessary to mess with the shift just to get to the change or can I just pop the the sides?

It has a little clip that you have to push in order to pull it down.
