Admittedly I've never been a huge Journey fan but we watched the documentary on Netflix last night and now I can't get enough of this guy. What a massive talent and a nice, humble person. It made my heart hurt when he said someone called him a "monkey". Humans can be so cruel but I'm glad the vast majority of Journey fans have embraced him. Why wouldn't they? The dude can sing his ass off! And in spite of what he said about himself, he IS cute! HOT, in fact. :)
AP is a master at range and vocal technique..he's like a voice chameleon. It's so easy to get hook on him cause you can become fasinated by how well he does all the different voices and songs. He really has an amazing talent.
Most people don't understand or refuse to understand that what Arnel does is not that easy. I mean, can you believe this guy's throat? Imagine, he's the only vocalist & he sings all these high songs esp. these "HEART" songs WITH EASE. Not putting so much effort & yet the voice leaves such a strong impression. And that, almost every night for like 2-3 hours or more of singing. This guy has a SUPERTHROAT!!!
Arnel's cover of Plant is so good it is just making me laugh in my chair in disbelief. If he only could cover Plant this well it would be stupendous, but throw in Steve Perry, Ann Wilson, Sting, Beatles, etc., etc., etc., and it becomes ridiculous.
I am consistently blown away by Arnel! Ever since I heard he is the new lead for Journey I have been watching his various performances on youtube! He is incredible! I am so in love!!!!! I can't wait to hear him with Journey! When they come to L.A. I will be there!!!!!
I couldn't contain myself & get over the excitement when my brother told me that Arnel Pineda is the new singer of Journey. I'm a big fan of Steve Perry & considered him as one of the greatest voices of all time. And if there's any male vocalist worth replacing him, Arnel is THE ONE.
His voice has been like that eversince since he started & actually even gotten better. While most prominent vocalists couldn't sing their own songs in the original key anymore or their throat is not just at its best anymore, Arnel has honed & mastered & perfected his vocal techniques/skills over the years. And only God-gifted talents with good intentions like him can do that. He is indeed 1 in a billion.
I'm really thankful that Arnel is living his dream right now - - as in world-wide - - and JOURNEY!!! It's like every Pinoy rock band's dream to just even perform side by side with their idol. And, yet, Arnel got to be the new lead vocalist. It's about time, kababayan!!! 'Coz the dream of other struggling Pinoy musicicans is living in you right now, too. Itaas mo ang bandila natin.
Arnel Pineda is already a legend in the LIVE BANDS music scene in the Philippines. Well-respected & a natural-born talent. I've never met him personally but my brother & his band did esp. during the AMO Band years & only heard great & overwhelming things about him. I just saw him singing a "HEART" song while passing by this club one time & I was totally blown away. It's true what they say about him. IMPAKTO talaga, 'ika nga. Mala-out of this world baga.
this was the song he was belting out in Disco Very in QC, back in 1980-82, before I flew out of Pinas. My friends and I saw him, and he was very humble he was requested to sing this song and he kept on saying " sige subok lang po" until this was what you heard. How about that? If Neal Schon didn't hooked him first, he would have been with Led Zep.
This is Arnel....There is and always will be only one Robert Plant. Of Course he is not meant to sound like him, but in fairness to the guy he gives it a damn good shot and probably as good as anybody.
Always felt Arnel's only "weakness" ( if you could call it that ) was the "raspy or scratchy" type voice... but that's actually a good thing because that vocal style is the kind that destoys voices way before their time. Anyway, he dosen't have to worry about that now! So happy for him... what a success story! Epic.

Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda have that tenor voice, but both are different I think. Steve Perry is a rare form of countertenor or a high tenor and does it with perfection and in mostly perfect pitch for sure. Arnel Pineda is a soaring tenor and great, but Steve is a little more effortless. Arnel has a punch to his voice, but fresh for a new Journey sound only Arnel can deliver. They both are great singers.
Led Zeppelin owns this song and thanks Arnel did way a good act...as said the pans are quite heavy. Overall 4 1/2 stars. As this is live by audience request and done on spot, this is excellent.
