Uli was amazing but going in a different musical direction. Matthias Jabs was the perfect replacement and absolutely took the scorpions to a level of global domination. So many amazing songs with ripping guitar solos. That being said, these early scorpions records in the Uli Roth era have so much emotion. Tokyo Tapes still gets played on my turntable on a regular basis. It’s one of the greatest live albums ever made.

Love TT. Not the best live recording in some ways, Scorps did not have the resources that bigger bands did, recording is somewhat raw in my op, I don't even think it was 1 of their best nights, PA system not great. Even this performance seems better to me. BUT that made TT better in some ways. Saw scorps first time, 1979, jabs first night, Thing is, they were playing these songs with jabs. Sick show, Nobody had seen anything like them.
The most superb live performances of literally any rock band, past, or present. Klaus Meine's unique vocal styling, Uli Roth's virtuosic Stratocaster magic, Rudy Lenners soulful drumming, Schenker's unshakeable rhythm guitar, and Francis Buchholz's lifelong commitment to the classic Fender Precision bass tone, make this band one of the most talented and eclectic heavy rock bands of all time.

Watching how little he is actually doing as a rhythm player here versus how much more he stepped up when Matthias joined....its night and day. Regardless. Briliant band.

Fantastik Scorpions in their incredible first formation. Mr Uli Roth playing serious licks with that incredible guitar tone. The real thing. Some classic tunes !!!!
The soul and the artistry isn't on the same level, not even close as compared to their earlier material. Big Shitty Nights certainly is a fun listen, however it's pretty much bubblegum, lol.

BTW, I love the outfit Klaus Mein wear. That is Leak from Bali Indonesia...
Just fantastic! What a wonderful piece of music history. Memories of Tokyo Tapes. Blessed to have seen them twice back in the day. Front row center both times with a beautiful young lady on my shoulders. And I still have the ticket stubs to prove it.
Been waiting for this since the 80s....bout time...lol
Fantastik Scorpions in their incredible first formation. Mr Uli Roth playing serious licks with that incredible guitar tone. The real thing. Some classic tunes !!!!
Saya meninggalkan komen ini di sini supaya apabila ada orang yang suka, saya diingatkan untuk menonton karya ini lagi dan lagi
Pictured Life is my fave. Well Polar Nights and Speedy's Coming are face melters too!
Talk about a legacy! You could tell even back then they were destined for greatness... I had just been born in 77!
I was 17 and into this heavily. You tube is the greatest invention since the Marshall stack. 🎉
This is Pure Gold ! Absolutely!!!
TRULY ONE OF THE GREATEST HEAVY ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME PERIOD 😏 FOLKS 🎸🎸
Oh hell yea! No matter what year or who played for them. They killed it no matter what!
Full stop. A period is what women have.
The "Big City Night" shit does not hold a candle to this earlier stuff...SOOOO Good!!
So true.
I dig this early stuff from the Scorpions and I also like "the Big City Nights shit". Can't we just enjoy the music avoid unnecessary comparisons?
The soul and the artistry isn't on the same level, not even close as compared to their earlier material. Big Shitty Nights certainly is a fun listen, however it's pretty much bubblegum, lol.
@@RoryLynott Exactly, well put. They removed the "art" to sell to the masses. Haa, yep big shitty nights is what it is... Heck I saw them on Love at first sting!
So I've done my time on that rock pile.. Honestly I think there last GREAT record was LoveDrive. And their last '"decent" record was probably Blackout. But for me, my FAVE is Taken By Force...so incredible. Which is your fave Roth record..? They're alllll great..
@mr.snicker-doodles7081 You're on point on all accounts! I certainly dig Fly To The Rainbow. Taken By Force, absoflippin-lutely no doubt about it! A lifer guy that owned a real guitar shop got me into early Scorps. He made me a tape copy from the original vinyl of Lonesome Crow. I was all in after that, rather than before, just a casual fan. Yep, Blackout was the last of their best material. I do enjoy Love At First Sting just not as much as their previous efforts. I was pleasantly surprised at Rock Believer. I thought that it was pretty damned solid!
I turned 56 two days ago and I'm still a fan of Scorpions and heavy metal and hard rock 🤘. Since listening Metal Heart and Broken Heroes in the middle of the 80"s.
Happy birthday fellow 56yr old!
Me too April 1068
And this will never change (born 1966).

SCORPIONS ALL THE TIMES
This is totally awesome. Ive only seen short clips or one song from this era. Fantastic TH-cam post!
❤Muzyka tamtych lat była niezwykła dlatego przetrwała do dziś 💥💥💥💥💯👍
I've always wanted to see a live version of Polar Nights. That was mind blowing. Uli didn't disappoint! Well...except for his singing. LOL
That live Polar Nights though 🤯 followed by In Trance geez..different vibes but double trance!
this is absolutely amazing footage and wish there was more, this era of the Scorpions is the Best hands down, Ulrich Roth is a God of the Gtr. Always been a fan since 1975. Tokyo Tapes is this concert for German TV. Thank You very much for uploading this, I've been waiting a long time to see this cause I couldn't make Tokyo that trip. too young to leave the country, alone. I was 14yrs old then.
Minha banda do coração !!!!
Brasil 💛💚 espera por vocês. 💥🦂🎸🎶
