I was in the US Navy and stationed in the Philippines from 1986-1992. There was this AMO Band who played at Magsaysay St., in Olangapo City night club and I believed one of the 3 singers ( one female and two male) was Mr Arnel Pineda. At one time I heard one sailor said at the bar. " Damn' they sounds like the Originals." Yes, life is hard but just keep on doing what you think best for you.
I just stumbled across this video. Hearing Arnel so soft spoken yet his voice is so dynamic onstage. He brings soul, life and energy to the music. Amazing stage presence. I'm one of many fans who is grateful he was found and hired by Journey.

I grew up with instruments in my hands - and no musician's library is complete without JOURNEY. The band is greater than the sum of its parts - each member lending to the JOURNEY sound/feel/legacy. Steve Perry....what else to say.....amazing. I always loved JOURNEY. But for some reason, when Arnel joined the ranks I think I loved them more...maybe in a different way. I think it's maybe his "story"...his background...HIS journey. My wife is a filipina and we missed their last pass through the DFW area....but will NOT miss again! Rock on, ARNEL PINEDA!

I was watching the "Zoo" videos long before Neal contacted Arnel and knew he was a good singer, but never saw Journey with Arnel. I decided this year I will see them live for the first time in 15 years.
So happy Arnel is happy.. He is right about the music being the powerhouse. The writers of the music are no longer there, but the music stands on its own.

Steve Perry made lots of money without singing and touring. Maybe the reasons why He us so kind to Arnel Pineda. But Steve Perry is also a very humble man. How life can change in a blink of an eye. Wow! I have been A big fan of Journey since childhood in and my teenage days in the 1980s. I am now fifty years old I heard of them when I was thirteen--from a radio we listened to growing up in the province of Quezon o this day.
I love Arnel’s story how he worked so hard being a musician, never giving up and getting that break that changed his and familys lives bringing them from very poor to no longer having to worry about where they will sleep or when they will eat next. I love seeing good people like Arnel get a huge break like he did. He cares more about being a rockstar to help his family and because he loves music not because he wants 15 exotic cars, 15 vacation homes and a new girl every day. He does great moral things with his wealth it’s just an amazing story and we need more people like Arnel in this world. When I hear a story like Arnel’s it restores my faith in humanity he’s just an absolute beautiful soul.

Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and caused enormous damage not to mention precious lives and yet every single Japanese can go to States without a visa. We Filipinos, my grandfather fought with the Americans and died along with them on the Bataan death march and yet we line up on a long queue rain or shine in front of the US Embassy, dressed properly with all the documents with us only to be denied. Wow, i simply cant believe that Arnel, with just an invitation and a voice to copy someone elses made it to go through. My chipmunk voice for sure will have me arrested instead. Arnel, i must say has intelligently and beautifully answered all her questions. Proud of you kabayan. Youve got something as a person that the rest of the band is keeping you apart from the money you bring. We envy you and at the same feel proud to be of the same color as you. Our country may not be great but a few good men is enough to smile at the end of the day.
