  • Winter has finally eased off here in Michigan and it's time to get the Coupe back on the road.
Follow along as I tackle some of the items on the to-do list to get ready for the upcoming driving season. We'll be replacing the old, leaky shocks, swapping carbs, adjusting the generator, and installing baffles inside the valve galley.

Excellent showing of the shocks. They are something to get apart. I gave up. I bought Stipe shocks and love'em. Evidently they used glycerin in the originals. Absorbs moisture and causes corrosion. Good video, thanks.

I've all but given up on trying to rebuild originals as I just cannot find enough reusable cores and I don't have the ability to machine them on-site. I've had pretty good luck with the Snyder's shocks which are usually easier to get your hands on than the Stipes.

@@JamesSorenson I've never had trouble getting stipe shocks but I bet the Snyders are good. I buy from them all the time. I new an old timer did the shocks. He bought 4 cores to make one good one. He also was an excellent machinist and loved doing it. It's a terrible job.

Your engine sounds good, I bet you have enjoyed the over drive.

I've been extremely happy with the overdrive and still recommend it. It has become muscle memory at this point. I was pretty shocked with how dialed in that swapped 94 was! It fired up immediately and hummed along like I'd spent the last month tuning it. It drove great on the quick little drive around town.

Enjoyed video, first good one I have found on shocks. Im working on rebuilding a set
Installed modern shocks until can rebuild
With all the work you have done on motor why have you not put 6V alternator?

I may do a separate video that will be more in-depth on the shocks and some of the other variations I have seen. I kept having to remind myself to keep it short in this video and had to edit out quite a bit.
I've kept the generator because it has thus far avoided drawing attention to itself. It has flown under the radar until this year where it exposed my own laziness. Adjusting the brush was fairly simple, so it hasn't really given me a reason to start considering replacing it yet. If it had given me any trouble along the way with bearings, brushes, or cut-outs, I most likely would have swapped it out by now.
