Could be fun to see you capture an asteroid again. Its been 7 years since you brought the "Magic Asteroid" down to Kerbal surface, so it must be about time for a new mission like this
I mean, irl, LEO's kinda self-cleaning, there's still enough bits of atmosphere up there to slow stuff down over months/years. Its only the higher orbits where stuff has any kind of longevity. That coupled with the absurd stresses of re-entry seems like it makes these kinds of clean-up missions not only uneconomical, but unnecessary (for LEO, GEO's different, but not where boosters tend to end up iirc).

The problem with leaving things in suborbital trajectories is that unless you're in range of the spent booster for the game to think it should apply physics, the part will just be on rails - atmospheres be damned, only a direct ground/water impact will clean it up.
Challenge idea: fly a tiny spaceplane that uses monoprop tanks and puff engines to take off, and ion engines to fly to the surface of pol. Then, mine with one or two drills and use a convertotron to make more fuel for the puffs, take off, and fly back to kerbin. It will use the mk1 cockpit that looks like a fighter jet cockpit (forgot the name), a pair of small wings with solid mounted solar panels on either surface and batteries mounting them to the spaceplane (as well as a fuselage made of four of the same batteries you used on the electric Laythe ssto), two puff engines, a body made of two monoprop tanks, a covertotron, and a drill or two, two or four ion engines, and landing gear. Do what you want with the end of the fuselage. (Edit: the spaceplane is called the Orpheus)
I enjoyed this quite a bit more than your usual ones. I like seeing on-the-fly missions that I would also do in my own game. It's fun to see how someone with a lot more experience would accomplish it.
You'd think the *King* of *SSTO* would know how to add *Angle of Incidence* to space planes Snapping, absolute rotation, HOLD shift, rotate the tool one click for 5 degrees positive pitch
The value of angle of incidence is a recent discovery in KSP circles. I think 80-90% of Matt's spaceplanes were made before word about it got around, and even then, we thought only a tiny angle was good, around 1°. The discovery that a whole 5° is best for supersonic flight was very recent, within the last 2 years.
Thanks for the video! This video made me think of a couple mods that I think you will like: Stage Recovery, FMRS Continued, and Recovery Controller. (I think you may have spotlighted them in the past) With Stage recovery, if you put enough parachutes on it, or have a probe core and sufficient TWR (optional), the stage is recovered automatically. It is better for Career mode, since it you recover some of the cost, but... Still cool, and the little tool that comes with it tells you the speed the stage will fall with the current parachutes. FMRS (Flight Manager for Reusable Stages) allows you to seperate things in atmosphere and control both to their end locations. One at a time, but both stages get controlled in the end. Finally, Recovery Controller lets you select which system each stage will be handled by, so the two can be used at the same time. Hope you like the suggestions!
ok, so now you must run a dozen+ missions and leave AS MUCH SPACE JUNK AS POSSIBLE up there to see if you can cause Kessler syndrome....is KSP Kessler syndrome possible only Matt Lowne could find out! (u can use that as a sales pitch my dude).another idea is land on dunas moon with nothing but a jet pack - like i did. it was SOO much fun- you eva from your capsule while on a collision course and use the EVA pack to land a single Kerbal....its massively good fun!
Btw, ReStock also changes how the parts work. VAOS made the “smallest” ssto that was super easy to fly with restock vs in stock that had the craft flipping over as ReStock reduces drag on the parts while also making them look better.
I used to do a lot of full "anti-Kessler" missions like this. Nowadays, I only go as far as making sure an abandoned part is on a sub-orbital trajectory, *then* hop into the tracking station and delete it. Waiting through multiple passes of a slowly decaying orbit got too boring! =:o1 Designing an un-crewed multiple re-use "de-orbitiser" craft, capable of grabbing multiple weird shapes of space-station/probe and remaining easily controllable while tethered to them, is fun though! A month late, but think about it... The first attempted FTL travel by the Kerbals was a piece of debris that somehow got launched away very fast. It was then named the Kraken Maneuver.
I leave all the stuff that "goes wrong" just like that many times it makes interesting situations...the kraken once demanded my favorite space station in orbit between mun and minmus...and the kraken gets what the kraken wants so all i could do was watch it break apart and the parts disperse😢...i have a habit of putting way too much docking ports on crafts and parts so in this case it was the saving grace i was able to catch collect and reassemble the parts back into a working space station well some parts landed on the mun minmus and kerbin or were lost in space but i was able to compensate...the resulting station looked way better and more interesting and it was far more rewarding to build... No kerbals were harmed in the process...😂 Its really fun when stuff like this happens.
