KSP: Fixing My Past Mistakes with an SSTO!
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 12 ก.ค. 2024
- You may recall that I left a spent upper stage in low Kerbin orbit during the construction of my Minmus space station, after forgetting to add a probe core and reaction wheel to it. But, to my dismay, when I opened the tracking station, there was actually quite a few bits of debris littering my new save file. This needs fixing!

As someone who never got KSP2, it's nice to see the KSP1 content coming back.
ksp1 is better anyway. mods
@@hongo3870 Yeah, especially planet packs. I've got a bunch of them.
Could be fun to see you capture an asteroid again. Its been 7 years since you brought the "Magic Asteroid" down to Kerbal surface, so it must be about time for a new mission like this
Give Gilly its own moon!
I want this but x3, in that he has to connect 3 asteroids together and land.
Or capture a comet. I did that with a little bit of cheating, using those opposed fuel generating engines. Looks nice in Kerbin orbit.
He do that?
It feels so weird seeing constant KSP 1 videos, I feel like it’s 2018 again 🥲
Ya it's nostalgic
I didn't even buy KSP 1 until late in 2019. :D I know what you mean though.
I didn't buy ksp 1 until early 2022 and I got ksp 2 five hours after it released
@@gameknight1789oof
What's weirder was people playing KSP2 in its far inferior state, just because it was "new"
First time a human fixing his mistake a new high for humanity
I cleaned the piss off my desk yesterday, so he's second not first

I wish real space agencies were this accountable
Well most rockets command their upper stages to de-orbit or move into a graveyard orbit
Yes but there is something called money and it’s not infinite
I mean, irl, LEO's kinda self-cleaning, there's still enough bits of atmosphere up there to slow stuff down over months/years. Its only the higher orbits where stuff has any kind of longevity.
That coupled with the absurd stresses of re-entry seems like it makes these kinds of clean-up missions not only uneconomical, but unnecessary (for LEO, GEO's different, but not where boosters tend to end up iirc).
they are. the reality is space trash is an overexaggerated issue
@@hashtagrex bro even the ISS has been having way more shelter incidents recently
Omg, that “one part to Duna” video sounds like SO MUCH FUN!
I hope it’s possible to make (and not too frustrating to finish) in the future!
The way that cuts off at the end is just perfect.
10:04 i’ve never tried spinning, but that’s a good trick! (to those of you who don’t get it, it’s a Star Wars reference)
it also helps against reentry heating with mustiple parts, for some reason
First 2 seconds: “hello there”
Me: GENERAL KENOBI! YOU ARE A BOLD ONE
@@TrioArtsOfficial you were the chosen one, Anakin! you were supposed to teach Matt that spinning is a bad trick, not a good one!
@@AnonymousRedCat I HATE YOUUUU *spittles*
6:18 Speaking of Porkjet.
This is the same Person who also made quite a few stock parts, such as the MK2 parts, many aerodynamic parts and even the stock Shuttle engine

It's even called SSME internally
@@GrandProtectorDark i have honestly never heard of it being referred to the shuttle engine
Matt you have to try out RSS since you've kind of beat pretty much everything in vanilla KSP and it would be really interesting to see how you would ace through that kind of field
Him trying RO would be hilarious
hasnt he already played Rainbow Six Siege?
i think Matt playing with OPM is more likely than RSS
He has played RSS like 3 times
@@NBH-xh3nq Real Scott Manley, Rainbow Six Siege, Real Slim Shady, Ready Set Slow are all april fools videos. It would be really interesting if Matt decides to try out RSS (Real Solar System) since there isn't a single thing he has not tried to do in KSP
Matt you've got me into KSP yet again and finally I've started improving. a good few hours on a fresh science save and now I've been to and recovered from Duna for the first time! I've been stranding kerbals there for years. Love seeing you revisit the best sides of KSP and keeping this game alive.
The problem with leaving things in suborbital trajectories is that unless you're in range of the spent booster for the game to think it should apply physics, the part will just be on rails - atmospheres be damned, only a direct ground/water impact will clean it up.
Actually not really.
There's a certain Altitude threshold bellow which on rails crafts are auto deleted. It's a different altitude for each body
5:11 KSP 2 no! Wait... sorry force of habit
Matt there is a thrust limiter on the eva pack to help with your duna mission, it will help with the very fine manoeuvres!
Fairing base plates are reentry survival artists, they're incredible! :D
I don't even start minimalist missions. I've tried a couple of times and found the difficulty sucked all the fun out of it.
I briefly found myself disappointed the magenta beam wasn't matched by a silly 60s sci-fi noise for the engine sound. ;) There would be no point to it, but this is the way my brain works.
Planet Coaster 2, eh? I would watch more Planet Coaster, but my motion sickness inevitably makes itself felt. It's remarkable how well I get on with watching KSP, though it depends very much on the videographer. I'm just grateful for what I can watch. I don't think I'd even be able to edit my own build timelapses if I were creating videos.
I enjoyed this quite a bit more than your usual ones. I like seeing on-the-fly missions that I would also do in my own game. It's fun to see how someone with a lot more experience would accomplish it.
Btw, ReStock also changes how the parts work. VAOS made the “smallest” ssto that was super easy to fly with restock vs in stock that had the craft flipping over as ReStock reduces drag on the parts while also making them look better.
Don't feel bad about failing to deorbit a second stage. The Ariane 6 also failed.
I used to do a lot of full "anti-Kessler" missions like this. Nowadays, I only go as far as making sure an abandoned part is on a sub-orbital trajectory, *then* hop into the tracking station and delete it. Waiting through multiple passes of a slowly decaying orbit got too boring! =:o1
Designing an un-crewed multiple re-use "de-orbitiser" craft, capable of grabbing multiple weird shapes of space-station/probe and remaining easily controllable while tethered to them, is fun though! (Pro tip, Matt: *DO NOT* forget the RCS... and plenty of fuel for it! =;o} )
I think you have stock waterfall AND restock waterfall in your game which causes a bug for certain engines, I had already had this bug
Matt Lowne in the first 2 seconds: “hello there”
Me: GENERAL KENOBI!!
Thanks for the video!
This video made me think of a couple mods that I think you will like: Stage Recovery, FMRS Continued, and Recovery Controller. (I think you may have spotlighted them in the past)
With Stage recovery, if you put enough parachutes on it, or have a probe core and sufficient TWR (optional), the stage is recovered automatically. It is better for Career mode, since it you recover some of the cost, but... Still cool, and the little tool that comes with it tells you the speed the stage will fall with the current parachutes.
FMRS (Flight Manager for Reusable Stages) allows you to seperate things in atmosphere and control both to their end locations. One at a time, but both stages get controlled in the end.
Finally, Recovery Controller lets you select which system each stage will be handled by, so the two can be used at the same time.
Hope you like the suggestions!
I feel like he's done something similar to this before, but its still fun to watch. Next time he could use a guided missle.
I recommend a mod called Tracking Station Evolved to help clean up the tracking station UI and organize your crafts/debris.
Funny ending lol, I've already fallen for KSP 2, Forza Motorsports and Cities Skylines 2, I am not falling for this one
Matt, about the Duna mission, if you install an auto clicker platform, I believe those can click faster than a human can. You might be able to get one to work with your keyboard, I’m not sure. Good luck, anyway!
My noob friend in ksp needed help, so I recommended your channel and he is becoming better and better!
You'd think the *King* of *SSTO* would know how to add *Angle of Incidence* to space planes
Snapping, absolute rotation, HOLD shift, rotate the tool one click for 5 degrees positive pitch
The value of angle of incidence is a recent discovery in KSP circles. I think 80-90% of Matt's spaceplanes were made before word about it got around, and even then, we thought only a tiny angle was good, around 1°. The discovery that a whole 5° is best for supersonic flight was very recent, within the last 2 years.
@@eekee6034 I only learned about angle of incidence recently from VAOS and it does seem like its a pretty recent development
Matt, maybe you could try using the slow motion from better time warp to modify the trajectory of the kerbal towards duna?
I’ve found that 3dconnexion 6 DOF input devices make EVA jetpacks much more bearable
The memes were strong in this one, damn. Love it!!
Man I wish KSP2 didn't die. It feels so weird watching KSP1 from you again!
9:43 What you could’ve done over heard to decrease your AP was turning your rocket upside down and letting lift pull you towards Kerbin.
The ending was chef’s kiss mate 😆
You gave me a bit of motivation do to the same !
I was a bit shocked when I activated the "debris" view lol
But I just made a drone ship with a docking port and I built a refueling station
This way, I can refuel it quickly and keep it in space for the next debris again and again :)
Yes it's expensive ! But removing space debris has no price ! 😁
0:35 where's the fun in that nuh uh big space thing go kaboom
Sweet handbrake turn at the end!
Matt, did you know that your hometown Plymouth is the town a german fifth grade school book for english called "Access 1" focuses on?
Man, those H A W T P I N K exhausts there, amazing.
5:30 nearly had nyan cat mode
matt, i play your videos whilst i try to sleep. i love your eyes off style of content.
Leaving a second stage in orbit? That sounds extremely familiar...
12:48 that is some military grade grass
The mod that effects the clouds is beautiful!!
Going to smack that like button every time. Love watching.
ok, so now you must run a dozen+ missions and leave AS MUCH SPACE JUNK AS POSSIBLE up there to see if you can cause Kessler syndrome....is KSP Kessler syndrome possible only Matt Lowne could find out! (u can use that as a sales pitch my dude).another idea is land on dunas moon with nothing but a jet pack - like i did. it was SOO much fun- you eva from your capsule while on a collision course and use the EVA pack to land a single Kerbal....its massively good fun!
To fix the problem with the orbit mode on ur navball, just click on that screen and it changes back to surface data
I just started ksp a couple days ago and finally made my first ssto. Literally just finished its first mission
I think it could be cool if you collected a bunch of viewer's savegames, and added the debris from them to your saveand then have a ship permanently in orbit to go to a piece of debris and deorbit it every so often. or maybe I'll try gathering savefiles for that purpose
Nice idea, though all the submitted savegames will need careful vetting & editing to make sure there are no unresolved dependencies that'll screw up Matt's efforts.
@@therealpbristow A regex could be used to ensure that all parts are from mods matt has I think, and to remove the crafts with unavailble parts. That would be one hell of a regex though.
"SpaJuSitch, if you will" - I will not.
This video makes me wanna see an episode of someone figuring out Kessler syndrome in KSP
Keep up the colony missions!!
Goodmorning! Always good to wake up to matt lowne
Matt Lowne discovers FTL travel while trying to clean up the atmosphere of a planet inhabited by space frogs.
0:01 “Obi-Wan Kenobi”
This is the best thing I ever saw.
I don't know why but I want the rectangle plume in my super-modded KSP it looks so funny
i wanna see one part to duna, maybe look into using your control panel for variable control of the EVA pack
the game looks beautiful with these mods
what a throwback
i just delete any debris that dips under 70km since that means its orbit would decay naturally but it doesnt when the object isnt in physics range
Been waiting for this one! Love your channel Matt.
5:15 nyancat engines!
Very curious how your page is doing after you went back to KSP. Me personally I'm happy :)))
0:00 general kenobi...
you are a bold one...
Can we have a compilation of your scuffed landings with deja vu over it?
I would really like to see that duna video
VAOS discovered that ReStock changes some other stats of the parts, mainly Aerodynamics, he no longer uses it. (not checked if the mod has been changed back to stock stats yet)
I wish you had some sort of naming convention or playlist for this series, its hard to figure out if each video is part of the series or not with the current naming scheme.
Would you mind posting a mod list for all your enhancements? And an updated one once you add more? I would LOVE to see an interstellar run from you actually. ;-)
I've managed to hose my mods where I get a warning about kopernicus, so I am going to have to do a rip and rebuild of the entire mod folder and clear out CKAN. I want to do USI life support and extraplanetary launchpads and get all that craziness set up but I went too overboard on parts mods and it wasn't fun scrolling through all the parts.
I always leave spent stages on orbit hoping that one day in the middle of an random mission they hit me :)
I love this channel!
You could try the Knes mod, it has many space shuttle parts and ariane parts, very nice, u could try building a space station by using these parts
Could you put your modlist in the description? bc i have to figure out from what you are saying if i want to understand which mods you have
Which i think are:
Restock
Scatterer
Environmental visual enhancements
Stock volumetric clouds
Blackracks new deferred rendering mod
gamelink's parallax 2.0
Shadowmage's TUFX mod using blackrack settings
PlanetSHine
Waterfall
PlanetShine and Waterfall too
i believe those are all the visual mods, those mods are what i use and i get the same result as the videos.
0:00 general Kenobi
I think that you should try making a dison sphere
Woo new upload 🎉
Matt: building an ssto in 10 mins

Honestly surprised you don't use the ZTheme
I enjoyed this. Maybe next time some sort of KE kill vehicle would be neat. Think you can hit something hard enough to deorbit it?
babe wake up new matt lowne video just dropped
Matt’s piipii
I don't know how feasible this is, but why not build a permanent space-tug in orbit of Kerbin that can intercept and de-orbit trash repeatedly? Maybe it could be a module on a space station.

Please use Planetside Exploration Technologies for the Minmus base!
4:32 Matt, you know with caps-lock the controls turn blue in the bottom left and you have "fine controls" specifically for your issue?
For me restock waterfall is just completed broken with the RAPIER engines I did find a way to get rid of the purple cylinder but it required to disable pretty important layers within the RAPIER engine plume texture 😢 if anyone finds a way to fix this please let me know because I can’t do ssto with this stupid purple cylinder
Try doing Project Hail Mary.
Go Half Section! You need a Toy box :)
A better explosions visual mod would be nice. I want to see massive fireballs and mushroom clouds, it always feels so underwhelming in KSP
perfectly cut
i have a massive space junk problem in my save file. i have been building unmanned junk deorbit buses launched from fully reusable boosters that u land back at or very close to ksc. the deorbit stacks comprise small srbs with monopropellant and thrusters and probes and small grabbers. they rendezvous using the monoprop (with monoprop forward thrust mapped to throttle) and grab the garbage, then orient to retrograde and ignite the srbs. most junk is small or light (empty tanks from enormous asparagus boosters launching interplanetary nuke missions) and i can fit either 8 light or 4 heavy garbage grabbers per launch. its been a fun task making myself manually clean up orbit. i also have a deliberate graveyard orbit for spent nuke stages as my head canon says im not permitted to let a nuke stage burn up, ever. i have since engineered better interplanetary missions and have designed a nuclear propulsion module that can be reused mission after mission and i just launch new fuel and burn up the spent tanks. of course, i also have garbage in interplanetary deep space but i aint got time for that.
Ain’t no way I just viewed a Matt lowne that was uploaded less than an hour ago.
