Does it really matter who did it first? I think the important thing is who did it better and usually the latter ones improve on the designs of the original.
I was just looking for which drone that I should be getting earlier today and I went through a lot of hassle looking for some quality reviews, and there you go BOOM, perfect timing ! LOVE FilmRiot!
Great review. I've got a phantom 3 pro and been very pleased with the footage it's given - used it for several youtube videos - around Liverpool and Greece.
+ThePurple funnily enough what I use is an old industrial umbrella sort of thing, I just took off the umbrella part and welded the mechanism from a tripod to the top
Thanks for taking the time to review both of them! Keep up the good work & please do another episode of Film State!! Can you resist a Star Wars episode...... I hope not
RYAN CONNOLLY I LOVE YOU MAN I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT JUST KIDDING CAN YOU MAYBE DO A SEGMENT ON FILM RIOT MONDAYS WHERE YOU GIVE FEEDBACK TO FILMMAKER TH-cam CHANNELS LIKE MINE? THANKS MAAAHNNNN
How difficult was it to keep the propellers out of the footage while filming with the Phantom 3? Hoping to buy one but I'm wondering how often you run into this problem? Love your work btw!!
I tested the p3 pro and the inspire side by side shooting the same thing. and the only real difference is that the inspire camera have better colors. or better blue. Every thing else with the sharpening etc can be fixed in the settings of the camera.
Thank you Fil Riot so much for the review. I really need to get the Phantom 3 now. I got the Phantom 2 for free from DVB but the Phantom 3 looks so much better
We just did a pro shoot with this drone and loved the footage, but since it didn't have the ND filter we were getting some problems and jitter in the shadows. For the most part it wasn't a problem, but some of our shots were robbed by the camera. Getting extra coverage saved us, and as I mentioned, other than that we just loved the footage we got.
Many people buy drone and use them without required qualifications (for both personal and professional purposes). Just, be careful of what you do even if you think your know how to control it because, you can trust me, you don't.
+Cameron Lawson dont know where you are from, but im from Germany and i am working for german broadcasting and i can say that its muuuch paperwork until you get a flying license.
I know regulations are still fairly new with drones (although I don't like calling them that) have you ran into any issues with filming and the FAA regualtions? from what I have read there are allot of hoops to jump through it seems to use these as part of a business.
I have been building and flying these things for 2 years now- it is fantastic to get a filmmakers perception and see how composition is done by pros. The things that would boggle Ryan's mind on the electronics and programming of these things are a walk in the park for me, but to use the tool as designed is not as simple as turning it on and making it fly through the sky. The learning curve and talent required in between is both tremendous, and intense. I must say- I hate him for being so good with it. Hate him. Hate-hate-hate-hate-hate..... no I don't. Maybe a little. Fuck you man. On my best day, rendering something I think I nailed, it is still pure shit. Try and stop me from trying though. This is soooo addictive.
+Christian Hoermann The 3DR solo has been a flop unfortunately! As you can see by Film Riot's videos they are sent these DJI products to review most likely. In a comparison, the Phantom 3 will win because it is cheaper and superior. I had high hopes for the Solo but was let down!
Are there any drones with lenses that change focal length? These are very useful, but I'd love drone shots that can change focal length. Rather than staying around 5mm like this one.
With all my love and respect to the epic Filmriot. Aren't those drones so friggin expensive!! I mean, anyone who has enough money to buy them can learn how to use them with or without money. Thanks again !
+S&S Pictures What i meant dear friend is that i thought filmriot was destined for low budget filmmakers by giving important tips, reading a drone's manual is not my idea of an episode !
+BIGTR33TR0N I work at McDonald's. I pay for my car's gas and for food. And I live with my parents, because I'm still in high school. But I still have leftover money to spend on film equipment while at the same time not allowing my bank balance to drop below $2,000
+Omar Benchekroun Film Riot is a destination for people who want to learn all aspects of filmmaking, from zero budget to big budgets. We will continue to cover all aspects that are important, including gear.
+Film Riot And that's awesome, dont get me wrong i ve been lovin filmriot for years, and the content is awesome, i just wondered exactly how many people would have the budget or interest in this episode and i think i know the answer now, sorry and thanks again!
I had an Inspire, but the DP had me return it. The budget for it was replaced for something else, and now that I'm seeing that it can fly on its own, I'm just saddened by the missed ops.
Those features you mentioned at the end are incredible. I'd like to see more on that.
I cannot believe how incredible some of these new apps are! The possibility to set a flight pattern so you can worry about the camera is incredible!
+OLegendStudios 3DR Solo did it MUCH before phantom. DJI just copied it
+KVK Studios™ so? 3dr needs a gopro under it, and they look awful
Does it really matter who did it first? I think the important thing is who did it better and usually the latter ones improve on the designs of the original.
mitchell2820 no they dont
J wendland i have used both and 3DR is better by a long shot
Hey FilmRiot can you at some point have an episode on Blackmagic cameras?
***** Indeed
+Rowan J Coleman Not likely as they are a Canon sponsored house!!!
+Peter Kay Like that time they reviewed the 'Canon' A7S.
Peter Kay Despite the fact that they've used RED cameras on a bunch of shoots as well as talked about some Sony cameras in the past.
I was just looking for which drone that I should be getting earlier today and I went through a lot of hassle looking for some quality reviews, and there you go BOOM, perfect timing ! LOVE FilmRiot!
The speed of Ryan's intro could rival Busta Rhymes by now, I'm sure.
Any update on Intercept?? Literally cannot wait for its release! My Summer will NOT end without it! :p
Then it's gets to winter and you still say its summer
+Film News Report hello Jacob
+SeaPea It'll probably be out for Australian summer :)
Great review. I've got a phantom 3 pro and been very pleased with the footage it's given - used it for several youtube videos - around Liverpool and Greece.
The footage is stunning! Beautiful scenery
Bravo! on the Audio-Visual Storytelling by way of demonstrating the Phantom-3!
It is a finely crafted work of Art.
Well done.
Although it is the best weather conditions inside, it's still requires skill to fly a drone in closed spaces.
Great video.
Well done.
Everyone should check out We Are Blood directed by TY Evans. They used some excellent drone work in that film. The trailer is amazing also!
Great episode Ryan! The part in the episode where you say, "What up" at the end sounded exactly like Barney from "How I Met Your Mother" lol!
my friend from school has one and now I want one! these are awesome!
I'll stick to my extendable pole
#nobudgetfilmmaking
Amen. Can I ask what brand of extendable pole? My broomstick is feeling a bit behind-the-times.
+ThePurple funnily enough what I use is an old industrial umbrella sort of thing, I just took off the umbrella part and welded the mechanism from a tripod to the top
Just a two weeks ago I replaced my old Phantom with the Phantom 3... and I love it! Film Riot just backed up my opinion there.
OMG, there's that music again at 5:00!! What eeeez eeeet!!!?? Excellent review. Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to review both of them! Keep up the good work & please do another episode of Film State!! Can you resist a Star Wars episode...... I hope not
What is that song name? I would love to use it in one of my drone showcases
Called Echo Park, cant remember which stock site he got it from though
Just did a commercial shoot with the Phantom 3 - Loved it.
What is the music that you use when showing the shots from turner falls? I can't get enough of that.
RYAN CONNOLLY I LOVE YOU MAN I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT JUST KIDDING CAN YOU MAYBE DO A SEGMENT ON FILM RIOT MONDAYS WHERE YOU GIVE FEEDBACK TO FILMMAKER TH-cam CHANNELS LIKE MINE? THANKS MAAAHNNNN
After last weeks informative episode, I was actually looking into buying the Phantom 3. thank you for this Ryan
This is what my school has, such a beauty
How difficult was it to keep the propellers out of the footage while filming with the Phantom 3? Hoping to buy one but I'm wondering how often you run into this problem? Love your work btw!!
Great review of DJI Phantom 3 guys. Maybe one day I'll have one of these.
Colour correction aside is the footage tweaked in anyway ie did you do any lens distortion correcting to hide blades? Stabilisation?
Awesome review. All important factors covered. And the presentation is great. :)
Damn I really want one of these. They're just getting better and better.
Great video...very helpful. Thank you!
YAY! You answered my question - make a review of phantom3!
Wow, this looks KOOL! Kinda expensive , but really cool. Great review, love the host. Pure awesomeness🎯💯😊
Anyone know the song used in the test footage?
MAWAHHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Darude Sandstorm
+Film News Report wow so old
+Dasding I was wondering the same thing :) shazam and siri were no help
+Dasding commenting to get the song name...
I think it's M83, it sounds just like them?
Ya know, the videos are always solid but those last lines are even better! :)
i love the music from the footage ughhhh
Hey Ryan, will you review the Panasonic g7? New 4k micro 4/3's camera great for low budget filmmakers!!
+kurtis watson I just bought that and this drone.
I tested the p3 pro and the inspire side by side shooting the same thing. and the only real difference is that the inspire camera have better colors. or better blue. Every thing else with the sharpening etc can be fixed in the settings of the camera.
With drone-cams becoming so popular, I just hope people don't ruin the magic of this type of filming. Hope the creativity guides the device.
Lovely shots!!!!
Thank you Fil Riot so much for the review. I really need to get the Phantom 3 now. I got the Phantom 2 for free from DVB but the Phantom 3 looks so much better
+Raed Darouaz How did u got it for free?
+Walter Edwards It was a DVB giveaway . Idk if it still available go.dvb.me but Phantom 3 is much better
+Raed Darouaz Thank you so so much dude! I know the Phantom 3 is better but getting a Phantom 2 for free is not bad as well haha
What is this music
I really liked this and makes for some great shots.
Yeah. ND is a must.
I can't find the link for the filter in the description which you said
Thanks for the review!
so Intercept coming out next year?
I have the P3!!! Great quadcopter
+MotionlessParadox So true! :)
I was in turner falls last week Ryan....
Love the shots from the Phantom was looking for one earlier today what a coincidence. sucks that the scavenger hunt isn't open to Canadians
I enjoyed the old Intro more ...
The Phantom 3 is so epic.
+PhantomDrawing indeed
When you say that DJI supplied the drones for review does that mean you have send them back?
I just got the Xiaomi yi camera and I am thinking about getting a drone. Any reccommandations on a cheap drone for an action camera?
I was wondering about that too. Sooooo expensive.
Cameron Lawson Haha "Flight Test" Recommended by Cameron Lawson :)
Cameron Lawson
Thanks I'll consider that :)
5thElemnt
Exactly so hard to find a cheap one but decent quality
***** Yes and I don't want to wait for the prices to go down. :)
Many people buy drone and use them without required qualifications (for both personal and professional purposes). Just, be careful of what you do even if you think your know how to control it because, you can trust me, you don't.
Ignorant much?
+Cypaubr aditionally, you need a license to fly in certain areas. could cost you pretty much if you dont have one
+Cameron Lawson dont know where you are from, but im from Germany and i am working for german broadcasting and i can say that its muuuch paperwork until you get a flying license.
i don't know about California but in Canada if its under 2kg (4.5lbs) you dont need a license and the p3 is just under that
Do a review on the 3DR solo!
Dave dot club...... Confusing.May be you should explain a bit about the clue + the contest.
Dave dot club is in a video. Go to filmriothunt.club for the contest explanation.
Hi Ryan, Can you please suggest a drone that can carry cameras like Connon 5D etc,,.
Love your show !!!
what lens do they use for filming film riot?
The canon 24-105 L.
I know regulations are still fairly new with drones (although I don't like calling them that) have you ran into any issues with filming and the FAA regualtions? from what I have read there are allot of hoops to jump through it seems to use these as part of a business.
Weird that you're getting different results between P3 and I1. Aren't they the same camera / sensor just in different plastic housings?
love the music over the footage at the falls. Is it stock? where from?
Yo Film Riot what did you use to shoot the phantom outdoors in your backyard? Looks surprisingly nice. Good DR, contrasty, and great colors.
Nice music, as with the inspire footage... Inspired by drive?
I have been building and flying these things for 2 years now- it is fantastic to get a filmmakers perception and see how composition is done by pros.

Hey Ryan, will there be any international shipping any time soon? Great ep by the way..
Nice shots Ryan, What does it take to fly dat good. I got a Phantom 3 professional but not a good pilot. LOL
song??

I wish Santa would buy me one :( great footage again dude keep up the great work
Could you also test the 3DR Solo? Would like to know how the 3DR compares against the DJI
+Christian Hoermann The 3DR solo has been a flop unfortunately! As you can see by Film Riot's videos they are sent these DJI products to review most likely. In a comparison, the Phantom 3 will win because it is cheaper and superior. I had high hopes for the Solo but was let down!
Are you going to review the 3DR Solo?
Is the song from the test shots on the triune film's music pack?
Are there any drones with lenses that change focal length? These are very useful, but I'd love drone shots that can change focal length. Rather than staying around 5mm like this one.
With all my love and respect to the epic Filmriot. Aren't those drones so friggin expensive!! I mean, anyone who has enough money to buy them can learn how to use them with or without money. Thanks again !
I can make $1,000 in three weeks on minimum wage. While still in high school.
+S&S Pictures What i meant dear friend is that i thought filmriot was destined for low budget filmmakers by giving important tips, reading a drone's manual is not my idea of an episode !

Since i don't use Twitter that much, here's a waddup! @Film Riot crew, not just you, silly Ryan.
the footage feels like some emotional stuff from an indie film
the music u used is nice for the footage .. what is it please :)
Nice shirt!
Loving that mario shirt! haha
how did 2weeks turn to 3months i want to see intercept
I need to get this thing... Or at least rent it for my next short film!!
What do you think about the new iPhone 6s's 4K camera?
Since it's not released yet, I don't think he has any thoughts on it :D
+Square Egg Films Hasn't the S5 and S6 already got 4k?
Cameron Lawson
But I have an S5 and it does UHD. I'll do a screenshot if you want.
+Cameron Lawson I think he's talking about Samsung S5 & S6 and not iPhone 5s, 6 or 6s
Cameron Lawson
I'm not saying that Samsung / Android is better, just simply saying that the S5 / 6 already has that
Excellent
You're forgetting the biggest difference. Light bridge for longer range!
I love film riot!!
Thats a pretty sweet price considering what you get, and now I really want one :P
Hey! What's the name of the song in the drone's footage?????
I had an Inspire, but the DP had me return it. The budget for it was replaced for something else, and now that I'm seeing that it can fly on its own, I'm just saddened by the missed ops.
DPs, man.
+Film News Report yes DP's yes
Hi! Can I ask: what tablet/phone do you use? Which tablet would be the best to use?
Could you guys do the : InFamous Second Son's Smoke Teleportation! That would be awesome
Love the vid. Im still saving for it though :(
Dude! Whatup?...hey curious to know what you use to edit your shots? Any particular software?
Phantom 3 Pro is great for the money
Whats the name of the song at 5:34
I just ordered a P3 Advanced from B&H last night.
The 2.7k is cheaper. Why wouldn't you get that?
+S&S Pictures because it doesn't have lightbridge and the ground sensors. Also, the latest firmware just upgraded the P3 Advanced camera to 2.7k...
that last bit at the end...sounds like a clue?!
Wow! Does anyone know the name of the music used for the montage?
Have you seen the Chroma 4k?
This doesn't have to do with the video but what filming camera do you use? The one you usually use for short example skits.
The Canon C100 for the past two years or so, the Canon 5D Mk II/III before that. Seriously, it's all there in various episodes.
+Paul Ocone Thank you very much.
are you going to buy the A7rii or the A7sii?
where is turner falls its beautiful.
