WHO WE ARE? WHAT’S WITH OUR ACCENT?
We're Dom & Marie, a French Canadian couple who love Nutella and live in a van. Marie is the brain (Ph.D student) and Dom's the dreamer (Creative director).
In our newly converted Promaster 136'' named Vanessa, we plan to visit every single corner of North America. Our goal is to inspire others to start #vanlife and to help build their very own home on wheels.
Do an experiment: Open up all the containers and stack them together. You will see that they take the same amount of space if you stack them or if you push them down and then stack them. So they are not really space savers if you just stack them one inside the other. My friend had some of those and she discovered that you could just stack them together without breaking them down and they took up the same amount of space as regular plastic containers that fit inside each other.
Hey, i know i am late to the conversation but i still want to share my take. What i like about the collapsable containers is that once you store food inside them and the food does not take up the whole space you can collaps them to be smaller. Which then takes up less space in the fridge. So for wide and shallow food like cheese and tofu you can use the big one and keep it completely collapsed or for stuff like avocado you use the width that fits and then adjust the hight of the container. So yes it does not safe cupboard space but it saves fridge space
A spray bottle is great for saving on rinse water for dishes. Takes a bit of getting used to, but soooo good for cutting down on water waste.
So many of you have recommended that, we now use that trick in the van. It's seriously the best! Thanks for sharing :)

This has been the BEST and most entertaining (and, of course, useful) Top 10 Vanlife Hacks I have ever seen. Love the Phil Collins drumming on the pans! I, too, love my Jetboil and the popup tupperware I just found at Target in US with the sporting goods. Gonna have to try that toaster. 🍞
Ok, this was the first "10 van hacks" that I found useful. The bread toaster and oven were my absolute favorite.
Wait, how could I forget the compact cooking set? 🤷🤦
That bread toaster is insane. It takes NO space at all in the van and cooks like magic!

I believe the snowflake on the bottom of the collapsable means it's freezer safe. I just love that the two of you are living in a small space. I've lived tiny 3 times and that's how I'll retire. I did it when it wasn't a thing yet and people said; "You can't live in such a tiny space" and I said; "Watch me!" When I finished my tiny apartment next to my shop in the bldg I owned, all of the nay sayers were blown away. I had so many parties in my tiny apartment! Those were some of the best times ever, and like I said, I WILL be finishing my life living tiny! Your van is amazing and so are you two! Loved the video! I don't know how I've missed you all this time, but I'm now sub'd! Peace!

Some of them can go freezer and oven. I saw a van lifer using these as his primary dishes. Easy to keep clean, no need for plates & bowls, unfinished food gets stored.
I'm about to start my RV life and out of the hundreds of videos I have watched about "useful tips" yours are the best. Also the way you two bounce off each other and show great respect for each other is beautiful to watch. I look forward to more videos.

Another video to comment on! The waves on the tubberware mean microwave safe. The snowflake means you can store in the freezer and they won't break from the cold! I hope that little info helps! However, the snowflake could also mean it is a travel size sled?? 😂

Yes, some kind of spatula is key. I use one every meal to get as much food bits off dishes and pots and big utensils as possible for easier cleanup.
Have you tried the scraper?
I put vinegar and Dawn with water in a cute spray bottle in our house and camper kitchen all the time. So I can rinse the dishes prior to washing. Also works as a counter and appliance spray and even a stain treatment 😉
What proportion of Vinegar and Dawn? Sounds cool!
Just like I said about the silicone containers... any set that fits inside the other is great! So the camping cook set is awesome!
All these things were actually useful to hear about and I could totally see them making a huge difference!!

Jet Boil ROCKS!!
Nice fun video! Regarding the Jetboil stove, they also make an adapter ring that allows one to use a skillet or other pot, not just the Jetboil pot. Adapter sells for ~12 -15 $CAD.
Whatttt! We'll make sure to check that out. We were talking about that yesterday: wouldn't be cool to cook more stuff with it. And there comes your comment! Amazing.
@@vanlifesagas Why do you need that Jetboil thing (for your van) when you have stove, gas and pots there anyway? What's the difference worth having one more item plus needing to buy extra gas canisters regularly? For hiking, I get it, for van, nope.
@@LetBBB6345789 , the jetboil is super fast unlike the other methods. I have the smaller flash that can boil 16 ozs in less than 2 minutes. It takes me longer to grind my coffee.

Something i use at home and plan to use in my van, once i get it, is a dish wand sponge. Basically you put dish soap in the handle, and use very little water to wet the sponge on the end and wash up do a quick short spray to rinse and all done with tiny amount of water.

Awe no way! A bus is pretty rad. We have friends that have one and it's so spacious. It's amazing. Where are you building from? Is it hard because of winter?
@@vanlifesagas we are building it in Colorado, it's been around -2c most days but we are just cruising along. I lived in a dodge sprinter when I met kenzie (my fiancé) but it was too small for her and her dog so we are building something a little bigger so everyone is comfy. Shooting to have it finished towards the end of May. Then we are doing a 10,000 mile trip hitting as many national forests as we can.

I live in such a small apartment. Now I legit want to give away all my Tupperware, my pots and pans. Etc. It's driving me nuts. I love the spatula idea! I tell my daughter to scrape her plate but, this is even smarter and efficient with water...I love the gel pad sticky idea too! I'm a mom so I get so freaked out about having vases knocked over

If you mix a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar in a spray bottle you can clean the dishes with that after scraping them. This saves a lot of water.

@@vanlifesagas Only for a few minutes, once it's completely dry the smell is gone.

@@vanlifesagas We don't actually scrape the dishes (if you're not a dog person this may gross you out) we just let the dog lick everything and then use the spray to disenfect.
