All the sounds everyone is speaking about… the long arcing wails/elephant like trumpeting sound is electric guitar… a very signature Talk Talk tone and “effected” electrical current… if you continue your journey into Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock prepare to have your mind blown and dig into the way the two albums were recorded. Highlights of 20th Century music. These albums leading up to them and stretching into them make a similarly jarring and alien arc themselves. BTW…The Colour of Spring will display many similar instances of the singular Talk Talk electrical guitar bits…
They just create the most lavish sonic landscapes that are so enveloping. Another top tune. The part of the lyrics that caught your ear were: "Don't look back until you've tried. With time you'll endlessly arrive Outside of use, With just tomorrow starting"
My fave Talk Talk song next to "Renée". It floats through the sky. It's perfect. I think the instrument you were hearing is a trumpet. Henry Lowther is credited playing trumpet in the album booklet, no saxophone players.
Understood! Sometimes brass instruments are hard to tell apart (I even confuse a sax with a clarinet on occasion), but bottom line, the brass sounds great on this one. Cheers for commenting, more Talk Talk coming soon!
Another beautiful masterpiece. Too perfect. Don't look back until you try A line so openly a lie, Outside of you, It's just tomorrow starting I've said I'm wrong when I've been right I've seen times when I've been sure But still I find I'm just the first that you take Are there reasons everybody pays? They never seem to be any use They never seem to be any use It's just tomorrow starting Don't look back until you've tried With time you'll endlessly arrive Outside of use, With just tomorrow starting See my eyes Tell me I'm not lying I'm just the first that you take Are there reasons everybody pays? They never seem to be any use They never seem to be any use It's just tomorrow starting
Another fantastic TT track and review. It’s tracks like this that I would have loved to have seen reimagined by the later Talk Talk with the use of more organic instruments, particular real woodwind etc. Now, I’m a synth fan, but the sound palette adopted on later albums created something special, and the writing here would have complimented that.
Hi Matt, I can will resend the emails, the album is Spirit Of Eden, it only has 6 tracks, but the tracks are too large to attach in one file, so I had to send them separately, so 6 emails. I'll send them now.
Hey there. So I do need the actual material to react to (still not equipped to react to videos), so you would have to (A) send me a zip-file of any album or release you would like to see a reaction to, or (B) use a drive---Google Drive, Icedrive, Jelly Fin, Dropbox, etc.----to host whatever files you'd like to share and then give me (my email, technically, which is shnootz117@gmail.com) access. Or you could (C) send me files as individual attachments in emails, though I'll admit, that is harder for me to keep track of so I would prefer A or B if possible. Cheers.
Ha, I can walk you through it! I promise it's not as complicated as it sounds. The easiest (for both me and you) would be ripping an album you have (if a CD; records take longer to rip into digital files) and then zipping into a zip-file, then attaching that to an email. No worries if it sounds too complicated and annoying. But yeah, if you're really keen to get me something, I can walk you through it. Cheers!

Love this song... the anguish in his voice and those high piercing musical notes.
Their best track off their best album, IMHO.
Another beautiful masterpiece. Too perfect.
Don't look back until you try
A line so openly a lie,
Outside of you,
It's just tomorrow starting
I've said I'm wrong when I've been right

They never seem to be any use
They never seem to be any use
It's just tomorrow starting
Don't look back until you've tried
With time you'll endlessly arrive
Outside of use,
With just tomorrow starting
See my eyes
Tell me I'm not lying
I'm just the first that you take
Are there reasons everybody pays?
They never seem to be any use
They never seem to be any use
It's just tomorrow starting
One of my long time favorites! Thanks!
