Trevor... thank you for posting this video. I am repairing a 1182DC that had a really bad balance control. It was bent a little and deflected the metal housing as well as bent the little wipers. Using your guidance, I was able to service the slider (without losing the ball and spring) and it is back to spec. Saved me a lot of trouble having to source a new one. Great series!
Hi Trevor. Greetings from Victoria BC. Great Part 1. I am a big Marantz fan and your attention to detail - especially with the slide controls disassembly and cleaning was outstanding (not withstanding the unsoldering and resoldering them back in). Plus the speaker protection relay cleaning and all the recapping etc. I have a Marantz model 1090 amp and it has an intermittent issue with the balance control. The amp was recapped this year by a well known and respected tech here. He notated issue with balance control and worked on it within the restoration process. (left channel momentarily cuts out and on powering on - sometimes) I will trouble shoot it more this fall sometime. It might coincidently be something else related . Looking forward to Part 2 as with your trouble shooting of the power issues on the Marantz 1122DC amp. PS. Your channel content is excellent and your presentation of repair/restorations are/is first class.
Hello Trevor, on 2235B, I have had a similar issue on one channel following successful repair and substitution of of outputs, drivers and pretty much every other die on a blown up power amp. Looked into vintage substitutions carefully, but turned out it was courtesy of poorly matched transistors on the tone control board. Funnily enough, the power amp channel went up in smoke, thanks to an SV02 diode, whose lead was masterfully "fixed" by my predecessor with a dab of super glue.
Trevor. Bonjour. Hope life is good. Im glad you started using the polish. It really does a much better job than the contact clean and is basically effortless. On Dual turtables it saves a ton of frustration and about an hour of time.
Thanks for sharing Trevor, looking forward to the conclusion. I've seen that speckled damage to pcb masks before, I put it down to household spray cleaners but I've seen all sorts of stuff make its way into vintage gear.
Probably two faults: one is the oscillation in only the right channel (that replaced matched pair of transistors ? ), and the other is a fluctuation on the output (look at 1:01:00 , that occurs in both channels in the same pattern), and that would or could be the power supply.
@@erikdenhouter Im sorry Sir. but do you know why all 5 dsp chips fried in the same time ??? it is on pioneer vsx ax10 that I bought with all my money (( now I see they will cost me over 1000 euros.... That I dont have. But if I buy them Im afraid the new ones will die also if I dont fix the reason for the first time You look like you know everything. While IDK how to change Caps ((
@@ChudGippity I do NOT know everything, or I would not visit yt channels to learn. If all five are really broke, I think there are two major possibilities: the power supply has a defect, maybe a short, shorted regulator, so the needed voltage(s) on that board are to high. This can be checked if you have the manual (or schematic). Another reason could be a lightning strike in the setting it was in, but that is less common of course. But all these chips are in the input circuit, so could receive such strike from other equipment.
thank you. I dont have where to ask that is why if I see a profile of a technically informed god.. I ask and Im sorry if you got upset bc of this. BIG RESPECT tho@@erikdenhouter

Great work on this piece Trevor.
Nice old build even with class A amping.
Hopefully it will run over the next 40 years.

Looking forward to seeing your investigative skills put to the test. This week's video was great so, thanks for sharing.

Electronics techs do not make enough money for the amount of work/time spent on something like this. Nice work Trevor.

Great video, can't wait to see part 2 👍
Always tuned. Can't wait for second part!
I had one of these years ago, mine had jumper's on the pre out..
Can't wait to see what you find with this. If it's a dirty power supply to the tone board, wouldn't that effect both channels?
