  • It would be great to be out on the road every weekend exploring Australia with your caravan, but unfortunately that's not often the case. In this video Steven is going through what you need to do before storing your caravan away for extended periods of time.
Look out for a part two coming next week in which we go over what to do when pulling your caravan OUT of storage.

I enjoy your informative videos, many thanks. Although not mentioned in this one, it’s important to thoroughly wash the caravan before fitting a cover prior to storage.

Firstly, may I say thank you for all the how to videos etc. you put out, they are gold. I have watched this video a number of times and as we are not travelling in our van for up to 7 months I was wondering, as a cover will block any sun to the solar panel, therefore not maintaining charge to the battery, if I were to purchase a portable solar panel/blanket and just connect it to the van/battery via the grey anderson plug on our draw bar which we plug the car into when driving????????? Your comments and or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks again, Bill.

Hi Bill, thank you for your kind words...I am glad you are enjoying the videos.
We need to establish where your anderson plug is feeding into.
It will be either to a BMS (battery management system, charger)
Or it will be direct to the caravan battery.
If it is to a charger or BMS, no, it will not help your battery when in storage.
If it is to the battery, yes, it will help keep your battery charged (it will need to have a solar regulator from the panels).
Feel free to contact me at Adelaide RV on 08 8281 8889.
      Steven

I fumigate with a bug bomb and spray the undercarriage with a waterproofing oil
