STORYTIME: They were planning to launch the previous generation HR-V in India in August 2019 but cancelled its unveil at the last moment because the design was old-school. Kia Seltos was also launching and that was the car on everyone's lips at that moment. Honda's one generation old design was the reason it would have failed. Still, the only car they focus right now on is City and maybe Amaze at this moment. This design of this generation HR-V should've been on a priority launch for India because it would have jumped the likes of Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder into the segment. Honda missed a trick with this car in my opinion. This would've given them at least 6000 units in sales a month.

I seriously wonder what does Honda Management in India smoke up for them not to launch this in India. If Skoda can make inroads with the Kushaq, the Honda brand name in this price segment coupled with this car can give the Koreans a run for their money. The 20 Lakh Rupee compact "SUV"/Hatch on steroids/sasti wannabe fortuner space is the volume cruncher in India and neither did ford nor does Honda have a product here. I wonder what is the rationale behind poor product management with Honda India. Such a brilliant car manufacturer yet plagued in India by the management's standard protocol of - put in underpowered petrol engines, strip off the latest tech in a car (the selling factor of the Koreans) and yet charge a premium, only to see the product tank. I hope this is launched ASAP before the market trend changes again only for honda to be caught napping.
Thanks for covering this car Faisal.

You are absolutely on point. Honda India management is so tone-deaf it is crazy. They are busy coming up with more and more inferior platforms like amaze, while the products that could have sold well suffered from lack of feature upgrades and no new value additions. It is like they consider Indians second rate customers. They just want to sell City, and nothing else. Makes you wonder because global Honda is number 3 car maker and in India you would consider them a dying and out-of-touch-with-reality brand

If Honda manages to offer this car at a competitive price compared to the Creata, it will likely establish a strong presence in India. The car has already achieved significant success in Japan and Indonesia, where it was released simultaneously. This suggests that the car's popularity and positive reception could potentially translate to the Indian market as well. By offering a compelling price point, Honda can attract a larger customer base and increase its market share in India.

Since I own both a honda and kia I can attest that after seeing how flashy Kia's and Hyundai's have become.. Honda 's have started to look very boring..
Kia has more features inside and out, with better 'sculpting'. Whereas Honda is more rugged, has better fit and finish but is very bland and boring. I mean look at that touch screen, it looks like they just lazily plopped it there without any thought!
I do find the rear view mirror that tilts down when you switch to reverse in the Honda, to be quite 'Amazing' though!

You car reviewers go all gaga about its competitor Skoda..but look what skoda gave you - Octavia! Costlier by 10 lakh than the civic with no sunroof, no low profiles & a mere 38 bhp more with a DSG set up. Was that worth it!!

Sirji as & when it comes to Honda Motors India they will strip the Car off by 50% features for India than what is offered in UK at almost the same end pricing in India.
Honda India mindset is to strip down as much as features possible & than complain about no big response, or Demand & no Sales nos in India.
I would say though it was one of the 1st 5 Co to enter India, they have been far away from the competition only because they do not offer according to competition nor to customers demands. Its a very rigid Co. hence they sales are shrinking every month. Its Utter disconnect with Customers demands & Competition.
JAZZ or FIT such a great Car was given a step-motherly treatment in India. There is No WOW factor in JAZZ when compared to competition. They removed their best Rear Magic Seat from VX model in 2018 at the same time increased pricing.
Presently JAZZ, WR-V,...... Out from production because of shrinking demands. Its a shame for Honda Motors India.

For all the global brands they have only Logos and outer shape here in India but the quality out of India and in India are definitely different (Bad in India) for all brands, what are higher is only the costs and pricing.

Very good point!! And, this as you said, is across all brands!! VW, Toyota, Hyundai etc.. After 10 years, VW is shy to produce it's 4 cylinder 1.5TSI here, in itself, is about Indian workmanship!! Or, these car makers, don't want to take effort on shop floor/ Don't want to teach Indians of workmanship!!!
By the way,Maruti engines, have given 'consistent quality' from 1983!! How Maruti makes it possible, when others don't,is a subject to study!!

The government charges more than 75% of car price as tax. How can they provide quality when government eats so much of the margins?
Even if parts are localised, taxes remain same. Our government really is idiotic in inhibiting car industry as this industry provides most employment after agriculture in other countries.

Honda India and Toyota donot have much products for indian market… I agree by CKD/SKD route they have to pay huge custom duties and GST.. they can lessen it by manufacturing with 85% indigenisation…all of the products are compromised and touching the body once can easily feels the quality of materials
