So after I left Lima, I headed south to Ica. Most tourists head straight to Huacachina to stay, but I opted for the more local of the two and was happy I did. I walked more than 10km (probably closer to 20 by the end of it) just seeing what I could see. Huachachina is a "natural" (it was, at least at one time...today, questionable) desert oasis. A small lake, surrounded by massive sand dunes that you can sandboard down. Unfortunately, my back is in no shape for such activity, so I opted not to do it. It was cool to see, but growing up, visiting the Oregon Coast, I am familiar with sand dunes, so, it wasn't spectacular, but definitely worth a visit, if you are in the Ica area. Most tourists go there. It's small with a lot of western friendly restaurants and souvenir shops, I just don't travel for such things, so Ica town, to me, was more interesting. But all in all, it was one of the highlights thus far. I really enjoyed it. This is also the place I went out to get water at night, and ended up at a shopping mall, and then had my first churros and I had coffee so good it gave me goosebumps :) (if you saw the food video, you may remember)...

I've never been into travelling as a younger woman, however I'm just about to turn 50 yrs old and you've helped me to find the travel bug, and I want to see so many countries, learn about their culture, eat their food and try to learn some of the language.
