  • India has achieved a lot in the 70 years since she got her independence way back in 1947. But where do we stand with it comes to the rights of women? How do we compare with the rest of the world? Have we progressed or regressed? Vitamin Stree dug deep and spoke to a host of experts and wide range of women to figure this out.
If you still want to know more, you can check out the articles we have used as our sources from here, and if you are seeking help, Majlis (majlislaw.com/), CREA (creaworld.org/) & She Says (shesays.in/) are some of the organisations you can speak to.
With each new video, Vitamin Stree is trying to start a new conversation - and we need your help reaching out to people across the globe! Help them take part in the conversation by contributing to multi-lingual captions on our videos through the link below:

If a rape case is proven wrong or lack evidence the case will not be proved and the man doesn't have to go to jail. The rate of men that going to jail because of false rape case is literally very very very few. Many men get away with rape like trump and kobe bryant did. @@sparshgupta4270 That depends on the area and ultimately the girl herself. But In my case when I was just 6 years old and I was going somewhere with my grandma in an auto, we stopped at this place to buy vegetables. So my grandma went away with the auto driver because she thought it was dangerous to leave the auto alone with all the stuff in it, I requested her to take me along but she denied. I kept wishing she would be somewhere nearby. Just as she left, I saw these sus with a box between them (doesn't matter but weird) guys complaining to a seller and eventually buying something. I tried to ignore them, but they repeatedly went and came and in fact I could clearly see them and they could probably see me. Later after some minutes I kept checking where my grandma went, and unfortunately somewhere I couldn't even see her. I went to find her and she still told me to quietly sit in the auto. Well, in a situation where I couldn't refuse her I went back again hoping those guys won't come back again but I knew they would. I saw those guys coming to the same place again and this time instead of buying something, they looked at me. I was freaked out. They kept staring at me while I was sweating and my heart was pounding faster than ever. I thought maybe they were looking at me for some other reason, But why would they be looking at a lonely girl in an auto? And they were REALLY close to mme. My body was on the verge of going into fight or flight mode. Right at that moment, the vegetable seller interrupted them and that exact moment I thought IMMEDIATELY this was the moment to jump off the auto and run the fuck out. So I ran off to see my grandma hoping I can stick with her at least now, somewhere inside I felt relieved. But to my dismay, my grandma again told me to go back. I felt like getting shooed away into danger, but I knew for a reason I ain't going back there. So finally she finished while I was trying to stick to her, and getting to the auto I saw those guys had already left and we went home safe that day. I wondered what would have happened if I hadn't jumped off the auto and reached to my grandma in time.
And this wasn't the only case
I went to the school my mom was the principal in, and as she was talking with some of her staffs I was standing there watching her silently. Then suddenly she handed me the keys to our house because it was near the school (literally 2 metres away), and I was kinda confused but I went away and got in. Then after some time my mom came and I asked why she told me to go back. She said there was a guy looking at me in a pervy way. I was kinda disgusted. It was also just a school and there were 5 staffs or something near me.
So yeah, It hasn't really improved for the people who would actually misbehave, instead just the others have been educated. And women still fear when going out of the street. But it's better for places with better people or less crowded places.

This applies to boys too but girls have it worse, everything in India is aimed to destroy your spirit and dreams and make you a mindless robot. It should be told to boys, girls or others at schools so that we don't have to put in a lot of energy trying to make the people understand its importance. Sex education should be a subject at schools. Changing the minds of young India will help generalize this notion in the future thus bringing change.

Ok so guys out there say that women have all the opportunities that men has. Well in paper yes, in reality not really. We have all kind of laws but do we follow them all? I dont think so. We laws against corruption but corruption still happens, we have laws against beef consumption. Duh we all the secret places you can relish on beef kababs. So in a similar way we do have laws in favor of women but if you see the ground reality its all bleak. I have the right to education and to do a job but what if my father or husband doeant allow? The laws arent helping much. What will help? Changing the mentality of those men. If you are a man and dont do discrimination against women thats good but doesnt really mean other men folks dont. So men please understand this and stop bashing women who seek equality saying that "yeah but you women have got all".

@@ak-zd9fs have you ever looked back and given a thought why women get such reservations? It is because they are held back most of the time, the education for women always comes secondary after the son's. The only way to send girls to school in rural areas is if they make it free because parents would not spend money on female education. Also, why not alimony? If the society pressures a woman to leave a job to take care of her family then how do you expect the woman to have money? If I left a job or even a job opportunity to take care of you then the least you can do after marriage is pay alimony for me to lead a proper life. Violence is not okay ever. But the only reason men are penalised for hitting women more than the other way round is because men have always used to domestic violence as a form of domination and women haven't. Please stop being so selfish and actually make some sense. Acknowledge the smallest of privileges you get for being a man. Such as not having to worry what you should wear and how Late you can come home because you might face sexual harrassment literally anytime of the day. Conservative views born out of choice AFTER being exposed to alternate schools of thought should be welcome.
      Like an educated woman who Choses to fast on Karwa chauth should be welcome to do so if;
      1. It is her own informed will.
      2. She is brought up in an environment where she wasnt taught "pati devta hai" or "kaisi auratein hoti hai.. ek vrat tak nahi rakh sakti" ... subtly but surely conditioning her brain to feel better about herself only if she does this for her husband in future.
      3. She should be well aware of the fact, that even if she choses to fast, it doesnt have to be an unbroken streak over the years, because health and responsibilities obligations come first.
      4. It should also not be like husband bhi rakhega tabhi mai rakhungi fast... Because husband has to have his own free will too.
      5. She should be indifferent to the judgement she will face from the society if she does or does not fast, and treat her own will of doing or not doing so as supreme.
Only then conservative ideas should be assumed as being one's own.
Untill then critising them is okay.

I have 2 questions which can potentially serve as a measure of progress India has made. These questions should be applied in the context of rural/semi-urban India, and not major cities like DEL/MUM/BLR.
    (1) Can a woman have access to a clean rest room which she can use with dignity, at a public place?
    (2) Can a woman walk into a police station, especially at night, and feel protected, let alone asking for help?
Personally, I think the answers to these is a big no, which overwhelmingly negates the any claims of progress in "women rights".

A woman is as strong as her family's support for her. If family stands on behalf of women all laws that we have in India actually make a women a superpower, but if your family don't, all these rules are just slack.

What is this weird outrage that we're outdone by "countries like Kenya, Bangladesh and Nepal"? Why should this be shocking? Why do the makers of this video think India is better than these countries? Bangladesh for eg, has been consistently spending a higher percentage of its GDP on gender specific policies so it shouldn't be surprising at all.

We have a long way to go. This can be elevated when humans in India are taught and "conditioned" (Yes, sadly we are to condition the society as no one is gonna understand and accept equality on their own) to respect each individual.

@@dreamer9375 now listen carefully. In ramayan when shri ram went on exile no hale said ram is being objectified and it took place solely because of women politics of the court. But when ram asked sita for fire penance it immediately became a subject of women objectification. Today even in hyderabad case some women were holding banner like" TEACH ME NOT WHAT TO WEAR TEACH YOUR SON NOT TO RAPE". Each and every female mp and some male mp too told in parliament men should mind their attitude and its responsibility of parents to teach them proper ethics. Some news channels exaggerated this by saying PURUSHON KA BALATKARI MANSIKATA.
Its a very old habit of indian society to put character of man always at the gun point.
If you can't feel testosterone in pulwama-44 sacrifice but hyderabad-4 you can immediately feel testosterone then its just your narrow mindedness.

The biggest problem isn't necessarily the government, or policy (barring marital rape of course). The biggest issue is the human beings. The men we are the problem.
Administration of over a billion people is very hard. The only way to actually do it is with a fair bit of introspection, and change amongst us all. I hope even 1 person is swayed by a video like this, cause that means that it is 1 less opponent to the progress of women in India, and India as a country

Which legal rights do men have that women do not have and as far as i know women have 49 laws that men do not have, society is badly tilted towards women , all laws and family courts are biased towards women ,women recently got 80% reservation quota in aiims ,and media did not even cover this gender discrimination, not only in aiims women get reservation quotas in various jobs and colleges , still if you want to talk about equal rights then please consider raising your voice for men's rights. In 2018 , 90 thousand men commited suicide which is double the number of female suicides, yet men's right are a joke our country . Be an equalist not a man hating feminist .
