      I’ve been climbing trees for 21 years, I now do block paving repairs for my mates maintenance company (long story lol) There’s tonnes of TH-cam videos like this but I only pay attention to the one’s with comments like this. Would you recommend buying a mechanical block splitter over a disk cutter?

    1 word: BRILLIANT. I have watched lots of driveway install videos with the aim of finding out how to level and use the screed bars and you have explained it perfectly. You explained the entire process in depth and I now feel more confident having a go at installing my own driveway. Keep up the impressive work. All the best guys I have subscribed.

    • @HowWeLandscape
      @HowWeLandscape  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Excellent thanks for the comment good luck 👍 if your unsure about the hight to set the infill blocks - you can screed and lay the first few square meters and then wack some to see how they settle, (then you'll know you have it right before you lay the whole driveway) just don't wack to near the edge your laying.

    This is absolutely superb viewing! I am currently doing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and looking to go into landscaping. I wanted a trade I learnt properly so I could then transfer those skills hopefully into all sorts of different things like paving, tiling, garden walls etc. The commentary on your videos have really helped me understand all the different types of things that must be thought about when landscaping. Thank you, I shall be continuing to watch. Jen

    What a phenomenal video! Exactly what TH-cam is about. When you do the levels, you mention that you aim to have 5mm between the top of the compound brick and the string line, as that is how much they will compress. Very interesting, had no idea they would compress that much. Thanks a lot

    • @HowWeLandscape
      @HowWeLandscape  ปีที่แล้ว

      3 - 5mm depending exactly how much the sand was compact and how much grit was in it. It varys on on the block slightly too. Thats the tricky bit to get right. The blocks always settle into the sand bed very slightly. You can lay and compact a small area of blocks to check before laying the rest 👍 Thanks for the feedback, very kind!

    What advice would you give for a sloped driveway that falls towards the road? Current driveway is 1/3 width of house at the bottom, widening to full width at the house, with front garden wall and grass area behind very similar to this. The drive rises by approximately 90cm in total. Looking to remove the grass and extend the paving to accommodate more cars, just wondered on best practice regarding the fall of the driveway and water flowing off towards garden wall and road.
    Many thanks 😁

    • @HowWeLandscape
      @HowWeLandscape  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you enjoyed it! We can't advise on other peoples projects but hypothetically if we were flowing a patio to a road or wall we'd put an aco connected to a soakaway and probably leave a flower bed along the wall. If not continue the aco along the wall. Another option is permeable paving that doesn't need drainage

    I like the way how you showed the small steps! So, did I understand it correctly? The Blocks are just put on top of the sand and not fixed with some cement or similar? Are they unmovable because of the last step only?

    • @HowWeLandscape
      @HowWeLandscape  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you like it! Its a block pave system so all locks together. The outer edge is cemented down to hold them all in. If it was a cobble drive they'd all be on a cemented bed, but these blocks are a hybrid so work the same way as standard block paving.

    To confirm, the blocks are laid 3-5mm above finished level? Even though the sand has already been compacted?

    • @HowWeLandscape
      @HowWeLandscape  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah if the sand has just 2 passes with the machine it should screed well and still allow a few mm of leveling out at the end. If the sand is pure grit, compact repeatedly (10 times) or is too wet. It properly won't compact anymore at the end. If unsure, screed and lay a small area say 2m2 and see how well the blocks compact down to check the levels before you lay the rest of the driveway.

      The hard landscaping took 2 of us about 4 weeks .. I cant give advice but driveways generally sink if they don't have a membrane, enough mot or have too much sand under the blocks. A consultant could give you more info.

    I do have to laugh a bit at that as an American, we call it a plate compactor and not a whacking-a-plate. I think I’ve watched too many mobsters movie and they’ll use “whack” as a way to get rid of stoolies and competitors. But those are just the little cultural differences that happens and it doesn’t take away from the fine work you all did.
    Cheers

    • @HowWeLandscape

      Thanks for watching, we don't comment on other people work. However if we did a drive without the kerb edging we would just put a concrete shoulder (called a 'haunch') to secure the outer block much like you said. If the drive was higher than before we'd raise the soil,gravel or grass level up to meet the drive so the haunch isn't visible. 👍🏻

      The blocks are made of concrete like standard block paving although they are a hybrid designed to look like natural stone/cobble. Called 'Drivesys' by Marshalls.
