    I straighten the bend out of my PEX runs under warm-hot water first, as the curve that is almost always in the tube from when it was coiled is the main culprit for the frustrating cuts

    I just tried this today and the tube cutter compressed the pex too much. maybe I dont know how to use a tube cutter properly, or I had a cheap cutter. However, I used the tube cutter to get a concentric line around the pex, marked it with a marker pen, and then used a utility knife to finish the cut - worked great! Thanks for the idea.

    • @ibtarnine
      @ibtarnine ปีที่แล้ว

      i think to do this properly you have to be patient and only tighten it maybe a quarter turn with each rotation, otherwise it will compress the pipe.

  • @thenexthobby
    @thenexthobby 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    One thing that helps if using a PEX or PVC pipe cutter is to pull up a little on the end that's about to be cut off. What happens is that the blade cleaves (separates) the pipe, causing the angle. Pulling up "holds" the gap together until the bitter end and the cut is more perpendicular.
    The kind you rotate around can sometimes walk sideways on plastic, creating a mistake.

      It just drove me nuts when started using PEX as I purchased the kit with the crimpers and other tools and it came with other tubing cutter I showed I had a heck of time getting a good straight cut. Very annoying.
      Eventually one day I was just messing around and didn't have the cutter nearby but I had been working with copper and my pipe cutter was around and as a lark I grabbed it (I was tired and lazy) and tried it on the 1 1/4" PEX tubing and it worked perfectly! Perfectly straight to. Never used that other cutter on PEX anymore. Made things so much better.
      Now the world knows about the silly method and can skip buying the cutters that are on the isle with the PEX.

      Pex A is too soft for most pipe cutters but what you can do is go around it 2 or 3 times with a pipe cutter.
      That will make a guide line line.
      Take off the pipe cutter and now cut it with a regular pex cutter on that guide line and you will end up with a rather straight cut.
