historical accuracy mods like these and the collection for world at war ngl are mods i cherish dear to my heart as someone with a autistic love and passion for the historical period of the 1910s onwards to the 1960s
I wonder if they’d be able to make a video on WW1 game series (Verdun, Tannenburg, Isonzo). As far as I know the developers did extensive historical research to make sure everything was accurate so it would be hard
What gets me is they not only are more accurate, but look SO much better. Which begs the question why didn't they do this in the first place? Guns are one thing but uniforms are a completely different matter.
DICE were under heinous time and budget constraints while making Battlefield 1 through to 2042, alongside both Star Wars Battlefront games. Some of the ex-employees (most of whom walked out after Battlefront 2 was prematurely axed) have said on Twitter that a lot of these inaccuracies were a result of having to rush to meet internal and external EA deadlines, some flimsy research (research trips are expensive), feedback from QA testers and EA higher ups, and multiple arguments between senior staff as to the pendulum between historical accuracy and rule of cool design. They were spinning a lot of plates while being consistently sabotaged.
It's understandable that the Canadians were left out of the unmodded game considering the fact that much of the Geneva Convention exists because of them. EDIT: The Battlefield 1 developers probably could've included them in the game but it would've been a pretty inaccurate portrayal of WW1 Canadians (to avoid having you play as basically a bad guy).
@@LucatheRexcarioBasically he is saying that the Geneva Convention even happened because of how brutal the Canadian troops were in World War 1. Example of this would be throwing canned food to the German trench who are probably cut off from their supply lines and starving then throwing gernades to their trenches after they threw the canned foods giving them false security
Personally I think the Canadian scout in the 1914 mod could've been a First Nations soldier, since Canadian minister of defence encouraged them to enlist unlike with black and Asian Canadians, because he thought they would make ferocious soldiers on the battlefield. Also, missed an opportunity for the pilot on the Italian faction to be a pig
I appreciate the Porco Roso reference :) This is Jay, author for 1916 and 1914, appreciate the suggestion and might look into it! Maybe for the Medic or Assault class, but it also unfortunately has to do with the limitations of facial/character head mods and model optios. @@BitcrushedMozart I can add new models, including new face models, it's more the fact that I'm bad at getting custom face models to animate and look natural haha, much better with making clothing and gear look believable, but people's faces are a whole other story.

He is always right!" exclaims the man. "Officer Rudolph, is it raining or snowing?" "Definitely raining," Officer Rudolph replies before walking off. The man turns to his wife with a smile. “See? Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear.”
One note on the French Uniform, the red kepi would've often been worn with a light blue cover (similar to horizon blue.) This can be seen in paintings and B/W pictures of the time from the unique blank texture of the cap.

They should've put a Stetson hat on at least one of the early war Canadian infantry classes, especially the cavalry. Most of the cavalry troops and a lot of infantry battalions entered the war in Stetsons and other cowboy hats before steel Brodie helmets were introduced partway through the war.
Hello! This is Jay on my alt account at work, I tried looking this up but couldn't really find any evidence for its usage in Europe. Not to suggest that it's not true at all, but could you link me to any photos or articles showcasing that? Cheers!
If I remember correctly, some northwest mounted police and mounties went over to fight, but they mainly fought for the white army in the Russian Civil War that where they served as cavalry and mp's
@@Armageddonsteellegionioneri The Western intervention in the Russian Civil War seems to be rarely mentioned when it comes to portrayal of WW1/1910s conflicts in pop culture. The only example I can think of is the British war comic Charley's War, where the titular protagonist is sent to fight there after the end of WW1 by a criminally insane officer.
You should have uploaded this BEFORE the EA anti cheat, since NONE OF THESE MODS ARE USEABLE ANYMORE. Its a real shame that EA decided to screw over all the modders in both BFV and BF1
While this is nice (undoubtedly), I do like that DICE was going dor "historical authenticity" rather than complete "historical accuracy". It can still get you immersed into the atmosphere of the Great War while still being a fun, fast-paced game.
Well, kinda. They half arsed it tbh, especially for some factions like the US and Austro-Hungarians. Nowhere near as badly as BFV which is riddled with Axis gear on Allied characters, and vice versa, and modern/Cold War equipment littered throughout, but they still messed up here. The point for the 1916 Enhanced MP mod was basically to try and achieve the "historically authentic but still bombastic" approach that I feel like Dice was initially going for, just executed more fully :p

As much as I love the Canadian representation, the tank markings are a bit over the top. The real Canadian Armored Corps tanks I've seen have british markings, but with the old-style maple leaf (it looks like the collar and cap badges) hand painted by the crew on the front plate. The stylized maple leaf used at 3:50 didn't exist until the adoption of the national flag in the 1960s
Hello from Germany. Frist of all, I'm happy that the German Army is now some what correctly reprecented in BF 1. The only thing that bothers me are the C96 holsters. First of all the C96 was very commen in the German Army, at special in the Stormtrooper Corp (Assult Class), so removing it is not the best joice. How ever it shoud be the Shoulderstock holster like on the tankers. The leather holster was not used by both british, german and austrian forces. Only the Bolo Mauser C96, that was mostly used by the Red Army in the 1920s. The Austrian Army did only use the C96 in small numbers, so a Steyr Pistol Pouch woud be more apropried.
14:31 the existing of the Webley revolver, used in multiplayer, was plan to be added in through mud and blood, friends in high skys and the runner, however the model of the webley is a ww2 model
Yeah, I am guessing German skins are universal in the game since German Empire uses the same models in every map. You either change them for all maps or you don't change at all.
@@HarlowLovesGaming What about the White Army on the Russian Civil War maps? I know they use the same uniforms as the Imperial Russian Army, but are they technically the same factions? If not, you could edit them to have more ragtag uniforms to reflect their poor industiral base, or even mod them into Japanese soldiers like with the Canadians or Schutztruppe to simulate the Siberian intervention.
@ unfortunately it’s not possible or else I would’ve loved to do some custom stuff, but as you theorise, the white and Imperial Russian army both use the exact same files and faction data, which is unfortunate.
I think this mod is absolutely fantastic and I don’t want to seem nit picky or overly critical of it but I would like to share some details that could be added. 11:59 the band around the slouch hat (known as a puggaree) has 7 folds representing the 6 states and 1 for the Australian territories. Historical at the time the puggaree would have been a singular wool hat band with no folds. 12:16 the black boots could be replaced with the unique brown Australian boots that were worn by the soldiers at the time. 12:29 the slouch hat with peaked crown, colloquially called the lemon squeezer, as far as I’m aware by the time of 1914 and the Gallipoli campaign was only worn by the 11th (Taranaki) Company of the Wellington Battalion. This can be confirmed by the cap badge as shown. I don’t know if there would be many Maori in the 11th Company, mostly white New Zealanders, however there would be plenty of Maori in the Maori Contingent and whose uniform would be similar except changing out the lemon squeezer for either a peaked cap or Wolseley pith helmet. 13:46 I can’t help but appreciate the detail the creator put into the uniform here especially the red piping on the epaulettes, It would also be nice to see the detail of red piping on the outer seam of the trousers which would be accurate to the ‘New Zealand Military Forces Dress Regulations 1912’. Although for 1918 the New Zealand army would of had the lemon squeezer as standard issue headdress for all regiments and corps except the mounted rifles, who wore slouch hats, the locally produced New Zealand uniform was phased out and the New Zealand army opted to wear British uniforms. I believe this change was made in 1916 after Gallipoli. It’s been a while since I’ve played BF1 so I don’t remember if there is cavalry on the Gallipoli maps but if there were I would recommend using the Australian Light Horse or New Zealand Mounted Rifles as both were present on the campaign although they were dismounted. One might even say the same suggestion could be made for the Canadian or Indian cavalry for substitution to the British faction. Once again I’m not trying to be critical to the creator I am merely making suggestions going forward on what is already a splendid mod. Keep up the fantastic work.
Hey, can you do video on every historical inaccuracies in black ops 6 (which takes place during the gulf war?). Also can you do a video on weapons inaccuracies in black ops 6 aswell?.
The French engineer kepi bears the wrong piping. The engineers had a dark blue kepi with red piping, this is a chasseur à pied’s kepi. And if the support class represents an engineer he should wear a dark blue trouser with red bands on the side and black collar tabs with red numbers. Apart from this, the uniforms are pretty well done.
Great! Thank you for letting me know! Would the trousers be paired with puttees at that point, or the same leather lace-up gaiters seen on the other classes?
as a reenactor the bolshevics for early war would use only ex tzarist equipment because later from 8 april 1919. war they standardized the unfiorms introducing also the m1919 Gimnasterka , even repainted adrian and Sohlberg helmets, even repainted adrian with the zarist crest on it with a red star drawn on it. Plus the papakha should have the stripe or the badge, should not have both the budenovka should be greener, and absolutely not red piping that is the tourist shop version of the hat, the farbest thing ever.
Seeing this makes me wish EA and Dice would go back and update Battlefield 1 with these more historically accurate uniforms. Hell, if they add more Expansion packs focusing on overlooked fronts of the war, it’d be one of the greatest FPS ever. Have Operations for maps based on the African theatre (like German East Africa or Cameroon) with colonial uniforms, the Battle of Tsingdao with the Japanese faction, the Siberian campaigns of several Entente and Central powers against the Bolsheviks during WWI, or even the Easter Uprising of 1916 (or seeing as BF1 already has maps for the Russian Civil War, why not for the Anglo-Irish War of the early 20s?). What actually surprises me is that there’s no maps in Serbia or Bosnia.
Question: did you remove the sound of bullets hitting armor plate after you removed cavalry armor plate? Also I guess developers decided to stick with certain helmets/uniforms to make it distinct when you see them. For example if I see small metal helmet I know it's an assault etc. But I agree with patches and colors.
Hi there! I actually tried to keep distinctive class appearances throughout the 1916 mod, particularly with gear and headgear profiles, as you'll notice the Medics always have a soft cap, the Assault's still keep grenade bundles, etc. They are still of course unique and distinctive from the vanilla appearance, but after playing with the mods for a while you definitely learn the new appearances and recognise them from a distance. As for the armour hitting sound I didn't even know that was a thing for the Cavalry Class, so probably not, but it might also be tied directly to the armour item being applied to them, so may have been removed along with it in the first place. Not sure.
@@jayfuzz1086 I play cavalry a lot and sometimes there is a sound similar to sentry armor when you shoot at it. I think it's related to the armor plate itself (as you said) but I just wanted to clarify. Great mod and video!
5:50 In a big fan of this change. I was alright with the French forces having the black assault because i thought it was a nice nod to the Hellfighters fighting alongside them. But i think this change of making the Hellfighters a part of the Americans but with different uniforms is a cool change too. It signifies the fact they are american forces but also shows off the segregation aspect too. Would it be realistic or authentic for them to fight alongisde their fellow white Americans? No, but the mod represents the idea well enough
That's sort of what I was going for tbh, but also the fact that I wouldn't want them speaking French if they were on the French maps, and I wanted to represent the French's own black soldiers as well haha, but thank you!
13:04 since this mod take place in gallipoli, as an aussie, the eye shield shouldn't be use as it is an American experimental eye shield, plus all support/heavy class soldiers, were not equipped with mg08, only lewis or hotguiss, since they were supplied by British and france
The Willmer eye Shields on the sentry soldiers are innacurace but was added as one of the few decisions made by the mod creator to try to keep some of the games exaggerated "tacticool" aesthetic. As for the weapons, it was mostly random what I gave to the characters in the overview because I didn't have them all unlocked and most of the weapons in game are innacurate anyway
the Australian armor was not used during the battle of Gallipoli, as fewer on, uniforms like blue shirts and slech hat was shown footage on Gallipoli, as battlefield 1 was released, aussie people were abused to the multiplayer map that have so many inaccurate uniforms, in reality although they were kaki clothes, it was shown there were few blue shirts they wear and no armored anzac were deployed in Gallipoli and there were no tanks in Gallipoli, but regardless of the mod although accurate, we do forgive that April is anzac day
research and expertise required means investing, meaning, they have to lower production costs. But this is how Americans think. Then quickly forget everything, to be tuned into the next thing rinse and repeat. lol :)
@@cdgncgn Nonsense. The only thing they would need is team of maybe 3 or 4 experts that know the real history. Look at this modding community. They do it for free. Do you really think it would be that pricy to get them to work on these games? But yes, you are right, Americans are a sick nation full of greedy morrons with fanatical beliefs.
Oh and also same could go for the Austrian support, there's a few photos showing Austrians on the alpine front using their brow plates as face shields, tho I guess that might've worked better for the sentry, but either way it'd be a nice detail and reference to historical photos
hey there, this is Jay! Fair suggestion but I didn't want Standard soldiers looking too overdone, but the support is also supposed to be a mobile machine gunner, not a static machine gunner so overly heavy equipment would be out of place in that regard as well. Cheers!

@@HarlowLovesGaming oh I absolutely misremembered, I saw it in a video about the game Isonzo, and that must have confused my memory, thanks for the correction!
Removing the Americans and replacing them with Canadians in the first mod was a surprise and a great choice. Didn't even know BF1 was THIS inaccurate lol
I don't think it's not historically purely accurate, if all the soldiers have mustaches/facial hair in BF1 Because of presence of boy soldiers who were prevalent in both sides that have ages of 16-17, some even go down to 14
True but there should still be at least some that do have facial hair. If you look at the 1916 and 14 mods though, you can see younger soldiers still, without much/any facial hair, such as the German Assault.
A great change you didn’t even mention were the WW2 Y-straps on the German forces being replaced by the Tornisterriemen (backpack-strap wich was experimentally used by lots of soldiers to take weight of the belt since only cavalry had Y-straps. Later in the war the Storming Bataillons were also allowed to have Y-straps.
I actually did want to change the Bolsheviks for the 1914 mod to something else at one pointed but it just felt wrong to do so, same with how 1918 leaves the Gallipoli maps with their early war setup. They're too niche to justify a complete faction swap out. As for 1916, 1916 is just a good tagname as it's the middle of the war and one of the most brutal years for fighting :)

I wonder if they’d be able to make a video on WW1 game series (Verdun, Tannenburg, Isonzo). As far as I know the developers did extensive historical research to make sure everything was accurate so it would be hard

Your Videos are Perfect for History Research. Sometimes History, is a Mystery.
Wat?
@@LucatheRexcarioBasically he is saying that the Geneva Convention even happened because of how brutal the Canadian troops were in World War 1.

They should've put a Stetson hat on at least one of the early war Canadian infantry classes, especially the cavalry.
Most of the cavalry troops and a lot of infantry battalions entered the war in Stetsons and other cowboy hats before steel Brodie helmets were introduced partway through the war.

The stylized maple leaf used at 3:50 didn't exist until the adoption of the national flag in the 1960s
Thanks Frosty, love your stuff and it sucks about the anti cheat man
Hello from Germany.
So happy to see actual Canadian Representation, they were such a significant part of World War One and those servicemen deserve the credit

Very satisfying. If you're going with a historical theme, you might as well be as accurate as possible visually.
I guess due to technical limitations, the Germans in North Sea maps wasn't change to be the Navy.
Unfortunately yes.
Yeah, I am guessing German skins are universal in the game since German Empire uses the same models in every map. You either change them for all maps or you don't change at all.
@ exactly, unfortunately.
Cant wait for 2043 so this man makes a video of battlefield 2042 historical innacuaricies
Nice video lad

Do every Historical inaccuracy in black ops 6
You mean, the things they actually did correct ? Would that be a video minute long at all ?

I love these videos, I do like the vanilla Austro-Hungarian assault though

13:04 since this mod take place in gallipoli, as an aussie, the eye shield shouldn't be use as it is an American experimental eye shield, plus all support/heavy class soldiers, were not equipped with mg08, only lewis or hotguiss, since they were supplied by British and france
The Willmer eye Shields on the sentry soldiers are innacurace but was added as one of the few decisions made by the mod creator to try to keep some of the games exaggerated "tacticool" aesthetic.
As for the weapons, it was mostly random what I gave to the characters in the overview because I didn't have them all unlocked and most of the weapons in game are innacurate anyway
the Australian armor was not used during the battle of Gallipoli, as fewer on, uniforms like blue shirts and slech hat was shown footage on Gallipoli, as battlefield 1 was released, aussie people were abused to the multiplayer map that have so many inaccurate uniforms, in reality although they were kaki clothes, it was shown there were few blue shirts they wear and no armored anzac were deployed in Gallipoli and there were no tanks in Gallipoli, but regardless of the mod although accurate, we do forgive that April is anzac day
Love all the games and content you put out.
I never understand why they always invest to much into these games only to make them inaccurate for no reason.
research and expertise required means investing, meaning, they have to lower production costs. But this is how Americans think. Then quickly forget everything, to be tuned into the next thing rinse and repeat. lol :)
@@cdgncgn Nonsense. The only thing they would need is team of maybe 3 or 4 experts that know the real history. Look at this modding community. They do it for free. This is amazing. While I really loved the atmosphere of BF1, I never enjoyed it as much as a lot of other people because I’m too big of a WW1 nerd.
I feel like the German support should get the lobster armour, or at least a stahlhelm brow plate, since both of these were used by machine gunners

Because of presence of boy soldiers who were prevalent in both sides that have ages of 16-17, some even go down to 14
True but there should still be at least some that do have facial hair.
If you look at the 1916 and 14 mods though, you can see younger soldiers still, without much/any facial hair, such as the German Assault.
About 6% of soldiers in the British army in WW1 were under 18. That's not that many in comparison
