After a rather challenging flight from London, I encounter wind shear at 200ft. I elected to continue but should I have probably commenced a go-around? Note this made the landing a bit hairy.

Great video. However as others have said I certainly wouldn't have used full flaps with gusts like you had. This results in you 'dragging' the plane in and using a lot more power to keep your airspeed up as you've basically extended airbrakes due to how the high wind would react to the full flap. 1 stage flap, and a little less power as a result would have been all you needed. Great video though, and great effort in those conditions.

Good job, Bournemouth isn't the easiest airspace to navigate. Especially with some.... interesting ATC operators. Couldn't help notice that G-DZKY transmitting whilst you're on final was one of my instructors I had before CPL!

Thanks for watching! It can be a challenge but having done it a fair few occasions you become aware of its complexities and location. Do you still fly?

@@TheFlyingVLOG Yeah, still in the long process of learning. Done everything at Bournemouth up until my CPL a few months back, hence I had to get familiar with the airspace pretty quickly. Heading back in January for the Instrument Rating. Nice aircraft by the way, love the DA40s, did all the early stuff in them.

ATC is ready talkative in the UK. Nice landing!

Great Job...... I love listening to British ATC "PA-38 permission to start" :-)

It came out well on this video. Mixture of backup recording and main recording of ATC comms. Stay tuned for the full flight video next Sunday!

I would have done exactly as you did: the wind was gusting 15K to 26K; it dropped off to 11K. You were carrying a bit of extra speed to account for a sudden drop in speed; it did and you coped. Carried on to a good landing.

Thanks for the feedback, and glad you enjoyed the video. It was a challenging flight overall but I guess this was a positive landing despite the float. Stay tuned for the full flight video next Sunday!

Looked like you really had to work hard on that one! :-)

I most certainly slept after this one. Haha!

It certainly looked like it didn't want to land

You are right indeed! I think it was a combination of the floaty wing and the fact when the wind sheared I didn't reduce the IAS in line with the increase in ground speed. Combination of factors. But not had a floater like this in a long time.

“Ready for base” at 6 miles out lol!
