RE: Flattened milk cartons. When that advice was written, milk cartons were made out of waxed cardboard. The wax acted as a lubricant and also was unlikely to leave a noticeable trace of residue on waxed floors.

When I first moved from home, my Dad gave me a book like this, I've used the ideas in the book for years, It's my Bible. Back in the forties and fifties, my Dad could fix anything. He was a true handyman.

I still have every DIY, “handy tips” books I’ve ever gotten-or that my parents ever had! One is my bible, as well.
When the electricity goes off, it’s pretty nice to have this kind of book around. When you google something, you can get overloaded with conflicting information-or just too much info.

@@reesecollins482 I think there are a couple of reasons why, in my eyes. Number 1 being it cost more than that little piece of hardware. Number 2, it's out of the way. Number 3, you don't have to move it this way or that way. Number 4, it's not a danger, like a doorstop.
I think any one of those 4 reasons is a good reason why not to use a doorstop.😉
