    I love Bob's Chocolate. I give it 4/5 emojis. I enjoy the Lakeland flavor, and I can definitely taste the chocolate, vanilla, and Latakia. P.s, You should definitely try it with some age on it. The Lakeland really mellows very nicely, and you can taste the Virginia a bit more Happy Piping!

    Strange how all our pallets are so different, I quite liked this one , as soon as I opened it the room filled with a chocolate aroma , thought it was going to be to much , but no it was quite pleasant..Great to see you back again making videos, think I’ve seen all of yours now .

    :) :) :) :) :) I bought this in bulk from my local shop. It was very well aged. There were sugar crystals all over the flakes and it was dry enough that I could smoke it immediately. I find it absolutely delicious. The Lakeland essence must have evaporated leaving the taste of the Virginias. A hint of chocolate and just enough Latakia to cool it down. I just might go and buy up the rest of this, it's rare to buy Virginia Flake in bulk that is this perfectly aged.

    :-) :-) :-) :-) Roughly 9 out of 10 bowls I get smooth chocolate and Virginia flavors. One bowl out of 10, I get the flowery flavor, which I'm not a huge fan of. I bought a 500, and regularly smoke it.
    4 out of a possible 5.

    (5/5 stars) I first smoked this tobacco about 25 years ago when my friend, who worked as a tobacconist, recommended Bob's Chocolate Flake and Ennerdale as high quality aromatics. I transitioned into straight Virginias and some light English blends for over a decade of smoking, but I returned to BCF in a moment of nostalgia, and it has moved back into my permanent rotation. As some have said, you really want to age this tobacco to mitigate the Lakeland essence, which can be overwhelming out of the tin. And smoke it slowly in sips. Under the right circumstances, this tobacco is remarkably unique and complex, shifting between Lakeland florals, Virginia fruits, Latakia notes, and subtle chocolate casing. This is definitely on the aromatic end of the spectrum, so pure English enthusiasts will likely be disappointed; however, if you can tolerate sweeter smokes, this tobacco will reward you with a surprisingly complicated and engaging bowl--the same can be said for Ennerdale Flake by G & H. Aromatic issues aside, both are incredibly high quality blends, expertly crafted. Both of these tobaccos will ghost a briar though, so dedicate a pipe for G & H moments. I only smoke these blends in a meerschaum, which really highlights the complex textures in both blends. Happy smoking...

    :-) :-) :-) :-) I really liked Bob's Chocolate Fkake. I agree that I don't taste a lot of the chocolate flavors. I let this dry until bone dry first, then fold n stuff into a cob. I didn't want to risk ghosting a briar. I have heard all about the dreaded Lakeland essence, but found out that I actually like it. I didn't find it overpowering at all. in fact by halfway most of the essence is gone. Probably not an everyday smoke but I will certainly enjoy it when I have it. Will definitely buy again.

    :):):) I like it, I have other gawaith and horgath blends that also have the Lakeland taste, which at first I was skeptical about, now after smoking it, I really enjoy them, the lakeland flavor goes away for after a few minutes, I have read they Lakeland it to keep tongue bit away, as I turn to other pipe tobacco manufacturers they seem to be less dimensional, the quality of tobacco is top notch.

    🤓🤓🤓🤓 I was looking for something different, and read about Lakeland. I purchased some Grousmoor, and found "different". I bought a few more Lakeland laced tobaccos including Bobs and have enjoyed them all. Guess I'm a Lakeland fan. I do have to admit, that I don't get many compliments on the aroma, so I smoke them when I'm enjoying a smoke alone. It's amazing how pallets differ. That's the beauty of variety. Keep doing what your doing Mr. Muttnchop. Love you videos.

    I am a die hard Lakeland piper and if you really want to enjoy the Lakelands you need to rub it out to a ribbon, let it dry and then smoke it, preferably in a Peterson system pipe. I find a large bowl works best and you need to really take it slowly.

  • @paulallan1376
    @paulallan1376 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    🐵🐵🐵🐵🐵 This is in my regular rotation now. This reminds me of the lancer slices, but it's more aromatic. It's a bit more floral (probably the lakeland flavor) and bit sweet. Retrohaling gets me more of the cocoa flavor and a little spice. I'm buying more of this for sure

  • @kyohan9349
    @kyohan9349 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    😎😎😎This blend is classified as a aromatic, and while I am not typically an aromatic smoker, I did enjoy this a lot. And while I don’t see that as an everyday smoke for me, it is definitely something that I will keep on hand. There is Latakia here, but it is not prominent in this blend; there is just enough to make the blend interesting.

    Bob's Chocolate flake has been my favorite for maybe 10 years. I enjoy it on special days in special pipes. It keeps getting better the longer i age it. To my taste i get very nice tobacco flavor with a hint of chocolate. Absolutely no other flavor. I can not detect any Latakia at all. I rate this blend ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

    ++++ I actually like this blend,the Lat. is there along with the chic/vanilla..but did take a slow cadence and approach...it's ok..not a BLAST of a blend,but good for rotation.

    Hey there,
    I really appreciate your honesty. I am pretty new to pipe smoking and have been relying on you as a source of knowledge for a little while now. so when I stumbled upon this video and heard your feelings on Lakeland blends, I had to chuckle. Because I have come to really enjoy them. These blends have become some of my favorites. And to your point, yes, everyone is unique in there appreciation for things.
    Anyway, as always, I enjoyed your perspective on this and appreciate your style. Cheers.

    Not bad at all.
    I can't smell latakia at all,which is good.
    I was told beforehand via reviews about how pleasnt it is.
    It definitely has a "heavy/woody" taste,but very tolerable considering its latakia.
    What i leave smoldering in the ashtray smells terrific.

    :) :) :) at first I didn't like it so much because it did come off alittle soapy but I switched to a corn cob pipe for my fourth bowl and found that the soapy flavor for me went away and I was really about to sit back and enjoy this blend. I would order and smoke this again as long as I smoke it in a corn cob.... possibly even a meerschaum pipe.

    I tend to stick to English, va/per and a couple burley blends. But for whatever reason I really enjoy a couple of the G&H tobaccos. For me, bobs chocolate flake is actually light on the Lakeland essence (compared to another G&H I like, which is Ennerdale). I really just get a ton of creamy cocoa flavor with this blend, a little of the lakeland essence and maybe the slightest hint of latakia. Really enjoy it in the fall and winter. Thanks for the review!

    I like this one a lot. Because I dried it out for a few hours, the Lakeland notes weren't overpowering, although they were still definitely present. I really enjoyed the more chocolaty notes, and had those notes been stronger, I would have given it 5 Emojis.

    :) :) :) :) :) - Bob´s Chocolat Flake is one of my favourites from all times. I can notice the LAtakia, also the chocolat, but everything in the background, the tabaco flavor is totally there (imo). 😣 I was apprehensive about trying this blend and it seems like my concerns have been affirmed. The perfume topping just destroys what could be a decent smoke. I barely made it through two bowls. The first bowl I kept waiting for the tobacco flavors to shine through. The second bowl was just as disappointing as the first.

  • @crazyivan779
    @crazyivan779 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    😯 I have to agree. Not my liking. The Lakeland flavor was brutal. I tasted nothing else. All I tasted was soap with a hint of latakia. I gave away half and jarred the rest. Some people have said that letting it age has helped so I'll give it a shot. I will smoke the rest in a year to see if it changes.

    I find that with most GH stuff, you really have to dry it out in order to lower the Lakeland essence. Most of their blends are misses instead of hits for me.

    ☺️☺️☺️ I was smoking this one last weekend with my co-youtubers from Czech republic on the annual meeting. I am not fan of chocolate, coffee or cappuccino flavors but this was good experience. I am a fan of lakelands (we call them soap-tobacco here, they are somehow like soap bars in your grandma's wardrobe). I have not noticed lakeland and when I was in one third of a bowl, the chocolate came very nicely on. My friends told me that there is a difference in production for the US and EU. Our shall not be so chocolate. We had the US version. I think I will stay with my GH Ennerdales tho. ;)

    🤢 🤮 This tobacco is terrible! I got my pipe all packed and sat down to enjoy myself, but from the first puff it made me want to vomit! I threw the whole tin out in the garbage can!! Uggghhhh!! Your absolutely right! I could not get into that taste. It tasted like Lavender soap to me. Why would anyone want to smoke a tobacco that tastes like lavender soap?? LOL

  • @ReedbenderBud
    @ReedbenderBud 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    :), :), :), :) - What a difference a pipe makes. Big bowl briar smoked coolest of all the bowls. In my case a Nording Signature. Also, the bit of raspy throat, probably due to the burley, in all the other bowls was minimal. Nice doughy taste (burley)in beginning of smoke; to the smokey, velvety cocoa latakia/VA taste about half way through. I'm OK with the floral (lakeland) topping. I can get past it.

  • @smokinghawk5004

    Burns evenly cocoa taste is through out the bowl with some occasional lake land aroma which plays a nice role and I like it. Nic kick is as with all the G&H blends medium and in empty stomach it kicks high. Over all its a enjoyable smoke and if I wouldn't have smoked SG CF I would have Given three n half star.

    🙄🙄 I'm so glad you said this Muttonchop. This is my first Lakeland blend and I'm just confused. Used a MM Cob and smell wonderful chocolate and cocoa tin notes. Jarred mine for a few months and had good moisture. I do get subtle sweetness from VAs and exhale or on relight I get the cocoa and chocolate but retrohale is mostly flowery w some Latakia. No bite for me and smoked dry. I will keep at it but most likely will not buy again.

    Taste is reminiscent of cocoa powder. Nicotine is heavy. Something felt a bit off, and I think it's the Lakeland flavor. I'm surprised the chocolate flavor came through as much as it did, especially given the strength of the tobacco.

  • @elwoodmaker
    @elwoodmaker 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    :-( I am giving this a 1, but barely. I had all of the troubles with keeping it lit and drying it out that everyone had. Lakeland essence? I'm still not quite sure what that is. You're describing it as perfumey but that's not what I got. This tobacco...every single bowl no matter what..had a musty smell to me. Really, really bad. Maybe I got a bad batch? What it reminded me of is a very old estate pipe that needed cleaning very badly. Nasty, nasty, nasty! I tried it in briars, cobs and meerschaums. I tried it in a brand new unsmoked cob even. It always had this horrible musty taste that I've always associated with a pipe that needed cleaning. Is that the Lakeland essence?

  • @2225back
    @2225back 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    👴🏻👴🏻👴🏻. I had hoped for a little more chocolate. Oddly I got it mostly on relight, which I enjoyed quite a bit. I found it needed quite a few delights but maybe I didn’t pack properly. It is a coarse cut. I don’t prefer a lot of Latakia so that is a plus. There is just enough. Also the flowery taste disappeared 1/3 of the way down. I can enjoy this and will smoke the rest of the tin, but unlikely to buy another tin.
    Thanks for blend club. Very interesting.

    😐😐 It's interesting reading the various thoughts on this particular tobacco. I agreed with you on all your points, MP. I didn't particularly like this one either. It smelled great (like unsweetened cocoa) on first whiff, but after lighting I caught wind of the soapy essence and that killed it for me. I got this in a tin and it was indeed very damp when first opened--like the texture of dates or prunes. After a few days, the flake became easier to handle and stayed lit longer. I thought I could pass this off to my husband and even he wasn't enthusiastic about it either lol. Oh well!

  • @hoipolloi3302
    @hoipolloi3302 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    😃😃 - The flake breaks up and lights well. I enjoy the flavoring, the cocoa comes through well. Since watching the video that floral flavoring seems to be more pronounced, I wish that was less prominent. I will finish what I have got left and may order more. This is a once in a while smoke, but definaty enjoyable.

    😶😶😶 I love the look and tin note. The first quarter of my bowl had an overwhelming Bath & Body Works novelty soap taste and I almost didn't continue. 1/2 star right out the gate, even dried for over an hour. I powered through and the chocolate, vanilla, and latikia started taking over the 🧼. The last quarter was delightful. Five 😊 for the last five or so minutes. I plan to give it a go a few more times, but I'll likely stash the rest for a year or so. Thank you for another fine video, Chris!

    😕😕 - To me this blend seems like it's in the middle of no mans land, I either want it to be more chocolaty aromatic or I want it to have more latakia. The first time I tried this blend I got the floral Lakeland essence pretty strong. I didn't love it or hate it.. but not my favorite. After that first bowl I didn't notice the Lakeland as much but I still didn't love what I got out of the blend and I only got a hint of coca once out of all the bowls I smoked. I'll keep it in the jar and see if it changes later on but it's not a favorite as of now.

    This is my go to for a virginia/latakia. Love the balance of both tobaccos with that nuance of cream. I vaguely taste chocolate at times. This tobacco needs a few months of age or more I will say. Rate it 4.5/5

    🎯 I smoked a few bowls of this blend and I just couldn't get past the taste of soap/perfume. I was hoping that it would grow on me but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I will put the rest of it away and try it again in a year and see what happens. I'm glad that we have blend club to give us the opportunity to try different blends like this and I enjoyed trying it. I would expect that there will be some folks who enjoy BCF and I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it. Like they say, you never know if you like something until you try it. It just didn't ring the bell for me.

      👍👍1/2 Ok. What a difference a year makes. I bought this tobacco in the beginning of 2018 so it has a year and a half of age on it now and it’s starting to form a good amount of plume. The soapy flavor has decreased quite a bit and it’s sweetened up. I definitely taste more of the chocolate and vanilla now. I have to say that I’m actually enjoying it now. I’ll be buying more but I’m going to cellar it for at least two years before I even think of smoking it. Anyone who still has some of this left over from blend club 2018 I would recommend giving it another try now.
