      Noodles invented in China. All varieties of noodles in Asia are Chinese origin from Ramen, Jajangmyeon, egg noodles, vercimili etc

    According to the Shin-Yokohama Rāmen Museum in Japan, Ramen came from China in a similar name "Lai-Mein" meaning pulled noodles in Chinese. Originally, a Chinese restaurant ran by 18 Cantonese chefs from Guandong China migrated to Yokohama Chinatown and gained the Lai-Mein gained popularity. Over time, the tastes and style of Ramen has changed to fit the Japanese palette and Instant Ramen was invented. There is now a differentiation between the original Chinese "Lai-Mein" which is sold traditionally still as hand-pulled noodles in Chinese restaurants across japan, or as "traditional Ramen". The funny thing is Niki being from the North didn't instantly recognize Chashu and had to think is because Chashu is Cantonese from the South being of the same name. "Cha-Sui"! Fun stuff.

      BTW Instant ramen was also created by ethnic Chinese person named Go Pek-Hok who adopted the Japanese name Momofuku Ando

      ​@@in4serhe was Taiwanese. Never considered himself Chinese. Taiwan was under imperial Japan, so he literally was born Japanese. Then he was forced to give up his Japanese nationality in order to keep his properties. When things got stable, he was able to reinstate his Japanese nationality.

    la mein = Chinese; ramyun = Korean; ramen = Japanese. They're all pretty much the same word but transliterated differently in English language

    I appreciate Kotoha's ease in discussing the roots of Ramen, and the same goes for the dumplings episode. Recognizing Chinese influences is not a negative aspect. It seems to me that Seong-ji consistently avoids addressing the origins of the dishes in each video, almost as if conforming to a forced Korean identity with an inferiority complex. One can take pride in being Korean while also acknowledging the diverse origins of their cuisine. Embracing the cultural roots of food doesn't diminish its Korean essence.

    I would like to congratulate whoever does the subtitles for these videos, I am a native English speaker who does not know any Korean , but the use of English is really good , mistakes are very rare , maybe the people who do it lived in an English speaking country at some time .       I am a native English speaker but also speak Korean somewhat fluently still. I will say the translations are really good. I have seen movies and tv shows with worse translations than this.

    Surprisingly the Chinese noodles in video is actually muslim Hui cuisine, so it's literally halal Chinese food. Lanzhou is well known for its halal noodles.

    Niki (lefts) uses Italian Grip. And Seong-ji (middle) wields Standard Grip. On the other hand, Kotoha (right) primarily uses Standard Grip for extending chopsticks apart, but switches to Turncoat for pinching food. Love these videos.

      Actually, that myth was proven to be false. China still invented noodles, but Italy already had pasta before Marco Polo came to China. So that means it spread from China earlier.

      That is still debatable. What do Marco Polo knew anyway? His book was full of fallacies.
      This is still possible though, first “noodles” excavated was a ball of rice flour strips from Qinghai, China, dated back to around 2000 BCE, when most civilizations were not even a thing yet. So it could very well be true, but not like Marco Polo thought it was

    Extra information for the extra personalities out there
    Today we focus on food history by finding the first written mention of foods in documents, tablets, books, songs and so on. Now this is the reason big influential countries like Greece (Greek Empire), Italy (Roman Empire) and China (The Dynasty rules) are often mentioned as the origins of many foods. Simply because these parts of the world was the first to develop writing systems and document things in written words. We have to be very careful to simply assume, that the food has origins in ex. China, because it was first mentioned in their chinese documents, because China like the other mentioned regions of the world was also very keen on import and export, and this made them huge hubs for travellers, sellers and migrants from around the world, this is how many food dishes ended up in these regions from other places in the world, but because these other places did not have a writing system of their own, or maybe it was destroyed or burned, many dishes mistakenly end up as having origins in ex. Chinese Empire, Roman Empire or Greek Empire.
    When talking about food history or history in general, it is also important to understand Ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the tendency to look at the world primarily from the perspective of one's own culture. Part of ethnocentrism is the belief that one's own race, ethnic or cultural group is the most important or that some or all aspects of its culture are superior to those of other groups. This comes to show when these empires speak about every other culture or region of the world as barbarians. This mindset inevitably will affect the history written down.
    I have spent many hours of my life searching through old documents and books to find traces of food history, because that has been a spark and passion in my life, and what my search has taught me, was this. I was constantly trying to find the true origin of foods to gain some kind of pride to my own nation and nationality, and I believe that this is the main reason many people go down this path, but what I ended up with was the understanding that food is ever changing, ever growing and morfes into new things and new ideas all the time. To claim something like food as your own (one nation, one culture) is ridiculous, because if we take everything we spoke about into consideration, then that means that we would have to be there ourselves to actually proof the origins of food culture. Obviously this is not possible. Thereby I conclude that searching for the origins of food culture is useless, and most likely you will end up being wrong. And what does it really mean to be the original creator of something? To create something without it being shared and loved has no point at all. We can all be proud of what our food culture is today, and how it evolved into this. Food culture is like water in a river, it moves fast and slow, when an obstacle is in the way it find a new path and changes direction and aim. Whatever culture or region the river touches on its never ending journey, everyone is blessed by its presens.
    A simple constellation like wheat dough pocket filled with meat or vegetables are considered to have origins in China as the infamous Chinese dumpling, but listen to how many countries around the world has this dish in different forms and shapes.
    Uzbekistan - Manti, Nepal - Momo, Japan - Gyoza, Korea - Mandu, Italy - Filled Pasta (ravioli), Russia - Pelmeni, Poland - Pierogi, Spain and South America - Empanadas, even today dumplings and spring rolls are considered stables in many African food cultures. Food culture can not be owned, it was designed to be shared and loved and passed on....

      All manti/mantri/mantou/mandu came from 蛮头 around 200 AD, 蛮头 in modern Mandarin reads as "Mantou", meaning "Babarian head".
      蛮头 was used for warfare sacrifice, but to use real heads was way to cruel so they stuffed meat into a flour dough wrapping and steamed the fake 蛮头 as sacrifice.
      Gyaza came from 饺子 or anciently 角子 (all read as Jiaozi in modern Mandarin), this is actually very debatable, cause all nomad ethinic across central asia eat these things. In case of written records, it only dated back to Song dynasty in China around 1000 AD, that's not very old.

      Another reason I'm not sure about dumpling 角子: Chinse language tends to construct word based on original meanning or logic, but 角 just means cornor. Some say they called dumplings as 角子/角儿 cause dumpling products has obvious cornors. but I'm not convinced by that.
      Take other stuffs in this video for example, Chasiu came from 叉烧 (cha shao in Mandarin), it just means "roasting with a fork", which is very logical, that's how the meat is made (originally, roasted). Ramen came from 拉面 (la mian in Mandarin), "pulled flour dough", yeah, of course. Jjajangmyeon came from 炸酱面 (zha jiang mian in Mandarin), "fried sauce flour dough", these are the things u know straight away, came from China, no doubt about it.

    I thought the 3 versions of noodles were interesting, the Chinese version has noodles and delicious spicy sauces, the Japanese version has bamboo and boiled eggs, the Korean version has fried eggs and cheese, you can improve these dishes if you include vegetable meat fillet With Chester, the 3 of us are even more delicious.
    And interestingly, the dishes have Chinese origins in the dough, but of course Korea and Japan nationalized ramen as their own too, the dough from Korea is very dark, interesting, they are beautiful and delicious dishes, I would eat them with adaptations, the pasta style oriental and delicious 😋 when well prepared.

      That color of the noodles is black is because the sauce is black and the fish is called zhangjiang mian in Chinese and jajangmyun in korean is also Chinese origin

    인스턴트라면 제외한 한국 면 요리중에서는 안매운 면 요리가 훨씬 더 많아요. (원래 1986년도 신라면 출시 전에는 한국에서 인스턴트 라면의 90%이상이 안매운 라면이었어요. 그때만 해도 한국에서 라면을 맵게 먹는 것은 문화 충격이였다고 합니다. 당시에 신라면이 충격적인 매운맛으로 대인기를 끌면서 그 이후로 인스턴트 라면이 매운 라면 위주로 바뀐거지요.) 인스턴트 라면은 요리로 취급하기도 그렇고...인스턴트라면 제외하면 면요리 중에 안매운 게 훨씬 많음.

    #매운 한국 면요리 : 비빔냉면, 비빔국수, 쫄면, 장칼국수, 육개장칼국수, 김치칼국수
    -- 잔치국수, 고기국수 등은 빨간 다대기 넣고 아니고는 식당마다 달라서 제외했음
    - 비빔국수, 비빔냉면, 쫄면 다 비슷한거라 하나로 묶어도 되는데 내가 봐주서 숫자 늘려준거임
    그럼에도 안매운 한국면요리가 9개, 매운 한국면요리 6개임
    실질적으로 안알려진 음식까지 더하면 한국 면요리 중에 안매운 음식이 훨씬 더 압도적으로 많아요.
    그리고 매운 음식은 대부분 한국전쟁 이후에 생긴 음식으로 한국 전통 음식이 아니예요. 한국 전통음식은 고추를 전혀 넣지 않아서 아주 싱겁고 담백한 것이 진짜 한국 전통 음식입니다. 고추가루가 임진왜란 때 들어왔다고 하지만 그때는 소수만 고추를 즐겼을 뿐 고추가 요리에 널리 사용된 것은 한국전쟁 이후가 100% 맞습니다. 현재도 많이 먹는 비빔밥, 비빔면 종류, 떡볶이 모두 원래는 간장 소스 였어요

    짜파게티나 짜장면이나 블랙빈누들이라고 안썻으면 좋겠어요ㅠ 야키소바를 소이빈프라이누들이라고 안하는것처럼... 고유명사를 써주면 좋을것같아요ㅎㅎ 무튼 세나라의 면요리 조합 재밌게 봤습니다😊

      I believe these girls live in South Korea, that's why they all can speak Korean.
      And these languages differ very much, so I don't think is it very common to them to know how to speak each other's language, if it is not spoken in the family or studied...
