In Europe, without the approval of the Security Council, you bombed a sovereign state Yugoslavija, killed more civilians than soldiers, and called the action a merciful angel.
I remember the novel with the title "Red Storm Rising". It depicts scenarios of WW 3. Russia deployed a lot of backfire bombers against an American Carrier group. Not sure of the number of missiles released by the backfire but what was certain according to the novel was 2 missiles got through the defenses and was able to disable the carrier.
Read also as well. The soviets use a very clever ruse. First they launch a salvo of obsolete missiles with transponders to lure away the carrier's air wing and then the Tu-22s fire the shipwrecks on the carrier group.
This situation has worsened for the US now as both China and Russia can sink US Nimitz class carriers. Only one missile has to get through to seriously disable the carrier and end its air operations. I have a feeling Iran may also have this capability?
