      @ContrastCopy หลายเดือนก่อน +5

It was a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 4 if I remember correctly. So I doubt other devs would have access to it. Red matter 2 was also a very, very slow paced puzzle game, so anything faster would likely not work to a similar effect.

I understand that a fast paced, hectic game just couldn't have quite the same level of polish on standalone hardware at the moment but I'd like to see some kind of horror title using the same game engine.

i have around 300+ hours in Skyrim VR (fully modded) and i cant seem to stop! that and MS flight sim still rule VR for me. when they can make stand alone games like them, i will be there. but for now they all seem shallow in comparison.
The issue that i see with people getting into PCVR is that it is not plug and play. It took me a while to get things working and running good. by a while i mean weeks.. and i am what most consider tech-savvy.
also, it takes some time to adjust to VR. I had to do short sessions for the first while until I got to where I feel no negative effects. now i can play for hours at a time.
Most people that i let try it for the first time like it for about 15mins then have to take them off. I'm sure that discourages some people from ever buying them.

Pcvr has a high barrier of entry... Meta made vr approachable by reducing the amount of steps to experience it and making pc vr an option and not a requirement. Not that I am trying to be a cheerleader for Meta, but it should be noted they have to attract developers to make content for the platform as a viable area to generate revenue. Also, because VR is very resource intensive, the approach for development has to be performance first, then visual fidelity afterwards in order to ship on multiple platforms.

Been there since day 1 and was a big fan of the tech even when Oculus DK1 was out. We were one of the first studios(Steel Wool Games) to get a very early prototype for the HTC Vive because of our early partnership with them. The base stations and wand controls were 3d-printed! That VR post hype crash was pretty brutal, but we survived. I think early mobile VR like Google cardboard and Oculus Go gave a really bad first impression of VR to a lot of people so it sort of set back mainstream adoption back in my opinion.
We're definitely in a better spot today and it's nice to see the medium growing.
As far as Meta goes, I've been happy with the content they've been putting out there and they still have the best value per buck as far as hardware. Also think it was a smart move to open up the Horizon OS to other hardware manufacturers.
Keep up the great work, Matteo! You've been doing a great job.

Yes, VR has come a long way. I still have the original Oculus Rift CV1 and the next version the Rift S. The CV1 had external tracking stations which I had 2 of them. Then the Rift S went to inside out tracking. The CV1 had OLED, and the Rift S was LCD lenses. Once I did VR for the first time, I never wanted to go back to flat screens, if possible.
I now stayed with Oculus which is now called Meta and got the Quest 3 which is where I am at now. Games look marvelous with the Quest 3 pancake lenses. New games and Updates keep coming out for the VR headset. Still learning the headset.
I mainly do SIM racing VR games but have recently gotten several Action, shooter games. All look awesome in VR. I only buy new games when there are STEAM sales. I don't need to be the first one on the block to buy new games. Plus when I buy a game, hopefully all the bugs and fixes are fixed, or I know not to get it.
I don't think VR is dead, they are going through a transition phase with newer hardware, lenses, and features. We shall see where technology takes us in the months to follow. Same goes with PC graphics cards, PC hardware, and lastly the gaming software. The big factor for me is pricing since I am retired. Can't buy new things a quickly as I used to.
Time shall Tell how VR goes and if more people want to jump on the band wagon.
Question for you: Why do I see new great Early release game that have come out or to be released do not provide VR support if that is the growing trend??? Seems it is modders that take the new games and make them try to work with VR. That is what keeps me excited is with all the VR mods. Note: there are games that I have that do come VR ready on STEAM.
Thanks for your video and great information about VR.

VR has still some issues to resolve. A big hurdle is still the motion sickness and weight/formfactor of the headsets for many people. Even on meta, it's not just jump in and be good. Also the VR platforms gatekeep each other so people on different platforms can't interact with each other or play games together. The VR Market needs a different approach to connect as much people as possible.

I agree with what you are saying for the most part, but while I think the Q3s will be upgraded Q2 it will also be downgraded Q3. So I think that it will mainly appeal to people who have neither. I don't know what it will be missing compared to the Q3 but it will be inferior, so if you are looking for an upgrade from Q2, most will probably pay more to get more. There will be zero reason for someone with a Q3 to even look at it. So it will be a nitch for new adopters who will want to get started at a lower price. The big question will be can you play Q3 exclusives? I heard a rumor they will not have controllers, that will make it difficult to play games. I think for the first time games may sell headsets, with Batman, Metro, Aliens, and Behethmoth all on the horizon this will bring new players into VR, plus a pretty big library of great existing games. I really wonder what the price point on Q3s will be because if it is too close to Q3 who would buy it? I guess we find out at Meta Connect.

Red Matter 2 is overhyped imo. It’s not even in my top 10. The loudest consumers put way too much emphasis on graphics and not enough on art direction, gameplay, music, meaningful goals etc. That’s why Wind Waker didn’t do well at launch but is widely known for how amazing it is. VR is held back by trying to appeal to the same mindset.

And on top of that they won't support the quest 2 even with that ugliness they are about to release. Even Assassin's creed looks gorgeos on quest 2, just like the walking dead or dead matter. They are supporting only quest 3 and releasing a cartoon, i'm sorry but i can't get behind this, we should cheer devs who deserve to be cheered, this game will not help standalone to break free from the low graphics reputation.

Technology wise VR is still in it's infancy. Even for Meta it will take a few generations of headsets to get that tech to the higher standard we expect. I think a lot of people when they think of VR expect something more advanced (more what is seen in future sci fi media). Something we will see in another couple of generations. It's getting there and the hardware advancing all the time. Getting more powerful. I think it's something that puts people off VR headsets is a lack of power. It will catch up to PCVR power (from a good laptop, maybe not quite the same as desktop).
I just got in to VR this year. The one thing i've found is the lack of bigger titles (and for me campaign based games. lot of more sandbox stuff around just now). That all seems to be be about to change. So many good looking games due over the next year. I'm really excited to spend a lot more time playing VR. It provides experiences you just can't get on flatscreen gaming (something like Iron man. i'm currently playing this and it's so much fun). The thrill of diving into cover, bullets zipping over your head as you fumble for a fresh mag or hiding from a monster watching it through a tiny gap as it passes. The adrenaline rushes i've had in something like Half Life Alyx, flat screen has never come close to it. I've been gaming for over 20years and VR is a whole new experience and way to play games. I'm very excited for what the future holds. I'm confident we will see other companies join Meta in the VR industry. I'm sure some of the games we will see over the next couple of years will change of lot of developer and publisher opinions on VR and encourage them to take a dip in the VR pool. VR is no where near dead. It's only just get started!

Although in the "PCVR is better" section I think if meta had not been involved something else would of happened. Even PSVR2 would of had a much larger market share and seemed better value compared to PCVR and would of had more adopters I think.

As a supposed villain, Zuck's pretty weak lol. He's made mistakes of course. But he's a very likeable alien. I never really thought about it before, but you're right. I never would have gotten into VR, even though I was interested, if the prices had not come down (same with drones). I can't believe Meta paid 4 billion! Wow. That alone tells you they're going to put a lot of focus on this tech so their investment will pay off. So far I'm still a little underwhelmed about what's available today in VR, with a few exceptions. But I'm overwhelmed at the potential. I want to use it as a legit workspace and not stay seated all the time, etc. But so far I still find most of those apps kind of .. awkward and buggy. Maybe it just takes muscle memory. I don't know if I could do what your friend did and keep a headset on all the time. I would feel a little claustrophobic. New subscriber. Great channel

Without Meta pouring money into VR market we wouldn’t have even a quarter of things we have now. Think what you want about Zuck, but he had a passion and he spent money recklessly into a market that didn’t even exist and is just starting to heat up. Without him we would have headsets that cost 1500 dollars and need gaming pc on top of that. And the player base would be like 56 people in total.

i mean, at least we can be glad that a better headset than meta quest 3 is the worst we're gonna see from now onwards when we see new headsets. Theres a point where it is light enough to not bother you or press your face and all of that, and i think we are very close to that point. VR has had also pretty low quality graphics in general because its a more computing intensive task, it needs more FPS, more resolution, and render two times, one for each eye, but now, normal videogames are starting to approach reality in terms of visual quality, so we should start to have more powerful headsets and more high quality games, give it a few years. And specially when AI makes game development 10 times easier, faster, and cheaper, theres gonna be a videogame explosion and that also applies to VR, things are starting to become standardized, not fully yet, but we've already are past more than half of the way

I think in the long run, the path taken for pcvr will be to its benefit. We wouldn't have UEVR and some of the other mods that we have. Also, Meta has established a generation of VR fans that will eventually want more and with that, pc vr will benefit greatly.

VR is small market but, the real good tactic with VR game could be, in this days so many games are on UE5 the best engine for VR games, i think games like stalker 2 should be always year after pc and console to be on VR too, there is easy method to make it as games looks really cool in VR from UE 5 they just need to make items be able grab it make it backpack and make a weapons and mags and stuff its not that much work, i think this way VR games get more hype

I keep saying Vr isn’t dead, it just hasn’t revolutionized society like meta had hoped. meta created their own bubble and it has deflated a bit. VR may not be where it was predicted to be, but it’s right about where it should be. It’s actually in a pretty good place.
As for PCVR. The market is stand alone and PCVR is niche. It will continue to fill the sim void, or the big AAA games with VR support.

I compromised my morals and bought a Quest 3. I am an extreme disliker of Meta and still bought one so I doubt there are many holdouts left. I was likely one of the last. They have won the VR race no matter how much I don't like it.😢
On the bright side it is a very nice headset. That said as soon as Valve releases their next headset (if they do) I'm jumping ship.

  • @Isaax

The Quest most certainly introduced a new era. One I bitterly hate to this day. It feels like VR has stood still since around the release of Alyx. The dawn of the Quest meant downgrades for PC people, and development being shifted away from PC to Quest. God, I wish we got the PC exclusive Bonelab. I am still so bitter about Bonelab, thinking about it makes me a bit sick. PCVR Hardware has stagnated. Innovations like the Bigscreen HMD are cool, but it's not enough considering how much time has passed, as well as the fact that even these innovative HMDs come with downgrades. I don't want to go back to 100 FOV and 90 Hz after using an Index. Not to mention software... I could rant on and on and on but I'll cut it here.
I would have taken a decade of very, very slow developments that were small but measurable and contiually upwards, rather than the Pact-with-the-Devil type deal with got with Zuck. Yes, high fidelity standalone VR with a big company investing in it, but at what bloody cost... when we wished for VR to get big, we didn't realize we held the Monkey's Paw. A finger on the paw curled...

This is not something that Zuckerberg is doing just for fun seasons. The reason that Palmer lucky sold him Oculus is because he said he's the only person he's ever seen that Believes in VR even more than he does. On top of that, what they could do is just make normal games and then they could add VR camera and motion controls and object manipulation for a VR. Audience You can completely Warm Skyrim VR with just five to six mods You can make it act like it was literally designed for VR so The idea that they can't do more is kind of crazy. They could. Do it almost as an after thought and still make money off of it. But right now everybody's so focused on AI that that's where a lot of the R and D is going not to actual game creation. It's going to things like hand tracking and feet tracking and all these things to try to make it more immersive. I'm not sure why they're taking this. Approach and it's not the correct one so I'm not sure what they're planning on that but VR overall is coming together Finally. Also they're now making meta headsets that use the Meta OS but is not Meta. So that will open up a lot more doors. Just like windows did for computing. But the rest I kind of agree with.
